THE LIE OF THE CENTURY

The Downing Street Memo is only the beginning of the proof we were all lied to.

“All war is based on deception.” — Sun Tzu, The Art of War.

There is nothing new in a government lying to their people to start a war. Indeed because most people prefer living in peace to bloody and horrific death in war, any government that desires to initiate a war usually lies to their people to create the illusion that support for the war is the only possible choice they can make.

U.S. Appeals Court Rejects Administration’s Claimed Ability to Declare Civilian an “Enemy Combatant” for Indefinite Military Detention

Human Rights First: Ruling a “Powerful Vindication” of Courts’ Role More About Law and Security.

NEW YORK — In a severe blow to the Bush administration’s claims of executive power, the federal Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit today said it would refuse to “alter the constitutional foundations” of the United States by upholding the government’s indefinite detention of a civilian in military custody in this country. Human Rights First, which submitted friend-of-the-court briefs in the case, called the ruling a “welcome and powerful vindication of the role of the courts in applying the rule of law in national security cases.”

Revealed: Bush’s Presidential Signing Statements Have Been Used to Nullify Laws

A Government Accountability Office report confirms that Bush’s use of presidential signing statements have the effect of nullifying the law in question in about 30 percent of cases.

Well, it’s official: President Bush doesn’t much respect the laws Congress passes. A Government Accountability Office (GAO) report — commissioned by Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) and Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) and released today — confirms that Bush’s use of presidential signing statements are, in fact, utterly without precedent.

CIA abduction trial frozen by judge : War Criminal on Trial

THE first trial involving one of the Bush Administration’s most controversial counter-terrorism practices has been put on hold by an Italian judge who decided to wait for a higher court’s ruling on challenges to the case.

The decision was a setback for prosecutors attempting to try 26 Americans, many of them CIA agents, for snatching a radical Muslim cleric off the streets of Milan in 2003 and transporting him to his native Egypt, where he has said he was tortured.

“America’s War on Terrorism”

On the morning of 9/11, the Bush administration didn’t miss a beat telling the world Al Qaeda attacked the World Trade Center (WTC) and Pentagon meaning Osama bin Laden was the main culprit – case closed without even the benefit of a forensic and intelligence analysis piecing together all potential helpful information. There was no need to because, as Chossudovsky explained, “That same (9/11) evening at 9:30 pm, a ‘War Cabinet’ was formed integrated by a select number of top intelligence and military advisors. At 11:00PM, at the end of that historic (White House) meeting, the ‘War on Terrorism’ was officially launched,” and the rest is history.

Michael Moore: 9/11 Could Be Inside Job

Discusses Explosions in Buildings, Demands ‘100 Angles’ of Pentagon Video, and Calls for a New Investigation– “They Haven’t Even Told Us Half the Truth.”

Moore told reporters, “I’ve had a number of firefighters tell me over the years and since Fahrenheit 9/11 that they heard these explosions– that they believe there’s MUCH more to the story than we’ve been told. I don’t think the official investigations have told us the complete truth– they haven’t even told us half the truth.”

Bush and Rumsfeld ‘knew about Abu Ghraib’

The two-star Army General who led the first military investigation into human rights abuses at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq has bluntly questioned the integrity of former US Secretary of Defence, Donald Rumsfeld, suggesting he misled the US Congress by downplaying his own prior knowledge of what had happened.

Major General Antonio Taguba also claimed in an interview with The New Yorker magazine published yesterday that President George Bush also “had to be aware” of the atrocities despite saying at the time of the scandal that he had been out of the loop until he saw images in the US media.

The White House issued a response denying the claim, however. “The President said over three years ago that he first saw the pictures of the abuse on the television,” Scott Stanzel, a spokesman, said.

New Questions About Abu Ghraib

A New Yorker article is raising uncomfortable questions for the White House about what President Bush knew about the horrific abuse at Abu Ghraib, when he knew it — and whether he and his top lieutenants bear more responsibility for it than they have acknowledged.

The shocking news and appalling photographs chronicling the sadistic torture of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. personnel first emerged in April 2004, deeply damaging America’s reputation, particularly in the Arab world. Bush responded by expressing disgust at the behavior of a small number of people who, he said, were acting on their own. He said those responsible would be held accountable. And he said he had not seen the photographs before they were made public.

MEMRI is ‘propaganda machine,’ expert says

The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) provides daily English translations of film and print media stories originating in Arabic, Iranian and Turkish media.

It sends its daily postings to every news outlet in the United States and Europe, in addition to politicians and cultural leaders. And it’s free, which makes it a Godsend for journalists, editors and policy analysts.

But according to its critics, it is also a dangerous, highly sophisticated propaganda operation, disseminating hate and disinformation on an unprecedented worldwide basis.

“They use the same sort of propaganda techniques as the Nazis,” Professor Norman G. Finkelstein, a well-known scholar on Israel/Palestine, told InFocus. “They take things out of context in order to do personal and political harm to people they don’t like.”

Iraqi goverment surpasses itself

MORE than 20 boys have been found, starved and naked, at a government-run orphanage for special needs children in Iraq.

The scene at the Baghdad facility reduced some of the US and Iraqi soldiers who found the children to tears.

The 24 boys were found naked and lying on concrete floors, covered in their own excrement, flies and sores. Some were near death.

Iraqis massacred yet again

Some 60 Iraqis, mostly women and children were killed in yet another blast in Baghdad today as US media speaks so eloquently of “surges”, “Security sweeps”.

Iraqis should adopt a policy of “Not one more victim”. Soon there will be no Baghdad and no Iraqis left. More than a hundred were wounded.

How to lose Afghanistan

Air strikes against a counter-insurgency should be a last resort. But the US is undertaking them – and creating more enemies.

A headline like Seven afghan children killed in US-led airstrike, which I read in Monday’s New York Times, can’t help but make you angry. Angry about the dead children, of course, but also angry about the knowledge that there are bound to be others out there angrier over their deaths than I am. They’ll have brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors, uncles and fathers, mothers, and cousins.

Many of them, naturally enough, will become America’s enemies.

Taliban fighters seize south Afghan area

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – Days of fierce fighting with NATO and Afghan forces left Taliban militants in control of one southern Afghan district and battling to take over another Tuesday, officials said.

Taliban fighters seized Miya Nishin district in Kandahar province late Monday, provincial police chief Esmatullah Alizai said. Authorities were planning to retake the remote area.

Afghan Human shields?

Seven Afghan children were killed in a U.S. airstrike. The spokesperson for the U.S. military says:
“This is another example of al-Qaeda using the protective status of a mosque, as well as innocent civilians, to shield themselves.”

Not that I believe him, but if the alleged Taliban (or anyone else) really wanted to use “human shields,” wouldn’t that only work if the shields were, you know, visible? Like the one shown here. Invisible shields may work great in science fiction. But in the real world, the idea of a hidden human shield is as preposterous as the idea that the U.S. actually tries to find out (or cares) who’s inside the buildings they’re bombing from thousands of feet in the air. Not as long as they can count on the corporate media to dutifully repeat the “human shields” story.

The Gaza Goulag

How many more prisoners in the Gaza Goulag have to die before the “International Community” reacts? Happily, some of them have access to the internet and have sufficient knowledge of one of our “western” languages to tell us what is going on in this hell on earth deliberately created by their Zionist tormentors.

It is enough to make any genuine human being weep, howver strong we may consider ourselves to be, to contemplate the suffering so viciously caused, without any feeling for their fellow human beings, by the invaders of the Holy Land.

What does Mr George W. Bush, the figurehead of the worshippers of Mammon, do to right the many wrongs suffered?

Isma’il Haniyah: ‘We are the legitimate government’

Interview with Palestinian [National] Authority Prime Minister Isma’il Haniyah by Patrick de Saint-Paul in Gaza.

Some people accuse Hamas of having carried out a coup d’etat in the Gaza Strip. How do you reply to that?

I reply to them with a question: a coup d’etat against whom? Against ourselves? We embody legitimacy. We are the legitimate government, resulting from a democratically elected parliament. Why take control of Gaza by force?

Following the signing of the Mecca inter-Palestinian agreements, which permitted the formation of a national unity government, a propaganda war was launched against Hamas. Fatah has behaved with certain security services as though they were a militia affiliated to it.

The Crisis in Gaza: Made in Israel

The old dream of Ariel Sharon is becoming a reality: Palestinians are killing Palestinians, and Israel is counting the number of victims with great satisfaction. The tears of Israeli leaders are crocodile tears, and their claims that they are sorry for the tragic developments in Gaza are mere hypocrisy. The bloody confrontations were predictable, and the Israeli-US responsibility and active involvement are crystal clear.

“Hamas is taking over,” “A Hamas coup d’etat”—these are some of the headlines from the Israeli newspapers in the last days, repeating the big lies of the Tel Aviv and Washington administrations. It appears that there is a need to make clear what should be obvious: Hamas smashed Fatah in the last Palestinian elections, after an electoral process that the whole international community, including Washington, hailed as “the most democratic ever in the Middle East.” Unquestionable democratic process and massive popular support, few regimes can claim such legitimacy.

IS THE WORST YET TO COME IN GAZA?

What surprises will be in store for a people that have already had their lives destroyed by a joint Israeli/American conspiracy against them…. now that a section of their own has joined forces with that devil?

Still referring to the entire mess as Hamas’ Coup, the Christian Science Monitor had some interesting points in THIS article. It’s worth reading and hopefully enough people throughout the world will care enough not to allow an entire nation to starve to death.

The world must not wait for the food to run out…. IT MUST ACT NOW TO RESTORE SANITY TO THE PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES. THIS CRISIS MADE IN THE USA MUST BE ENDED NOW!

How Israelis Torture Captives

The twilight zone / ‘Now you are paralyzed, as we promised’.

We have to make you do a little sports,” the Shin Bet interrogator said, launching four successive days of questioning accompanied by brutal physical torture. The result: Luwaii Ashqar can no longer stand on his feet. He sits in his wheelchair, dressed in a fashionable quasi-military suit, super-elegant, new Caterpillar-brand shoes on his paralyzed feet.
