An Unconscionable Stain on the Fabric of American Democracy

by Anthony Wade

August 19, 2007

This is simply not how we are supposed to operate in America. This country is supposed to be a model for justice around the world. It is supposed to be the example of due process and equality under the law. We have seen many egregious violations of our core principles under the renegade Bush Administration but what happened this past week typifies the absolute worst of what we can be when we allow fear to supersede our laws. When we allow partisanship to replace our values. The powers that be and the corporate controlled media will have us believe that we are left or right, blue or red, and republican or democrat. Apparently along the way we have simply forgotten what is right and wrong.

This week a guilty verdict was reached in the case of Jose Padilla. The White House gushed at the verdict as if they were proud of the subversion of democracy they orchestrated for years in dealing with the prosecution of this citizen. In 2002 Jose Padilla was arrested for allegedly conspiring to release a dirty bomb in an undesignated American city. The media fanfare the Bush Administration created to announce the arrest was ostentatious and grandiose. We were told how lucky we were to have the administration looking out for such plots against our homeland. Of course Jose Padilla never stood trial for the crimes he was arrested for. What happened to him next should never happen in a country that calls itself free.

Soon after his arrest, Padilla was designated an “unlawful enemy combatant” for the sole purpose of allowing the Bush Administration to do what they wished to him without fear of oversight, reprisal or restriction. He was “disappeared” to a brig off the coast of South Carolina where he was kept for years without contact and without legal representation. Habeas Corpus was eradicated; a key lynchpin of democratic societies for over 800 years. In an attempt to break his will, Padilla was subjected to complete and abject isolation for years. He was tortured. Plain and simple; he was tortured. I do not care how many times Bush likes to say “we don’t torture”; Jose Padilla was routinely and purposefully tortured for a period of years. The result was not a broken will but a broken human being. He was essentially driven mad, as policy. No court was allowed to oversee or check the new unlimited power of the would be tyrant. Only when it became obvious to the administration that the Supreme Court would demand that Padilla be tried or released did Bush bother to take Mr. Padilla to trial. When the administration did, they took a shell of a human being to trial, not for the crimes they alleged when they arrested him for, but rather for activities that he and friends of his engaged in during the 1990’s.

Did you get that America? Do you fully comprehend what happened? A United States citizen was arrested for alleged crimes, was stripped of all rights as a citizen, dumped into isolation in prison for years with no legal representation, and only when the hand of the administration was forced he was brought to trial for completely different crimes, discovered after the fact and after years of being tortured. That is not due process. That is not even remotely just. It has been compared to governmental behavior found during the height of the Soviet Union. Even the conservative Cato Institute had to lament that “for those of us concerned about the rule of law, the Padilla episode is not the way America is supposed to work.”

Rule of law? How about basic human decency? What have we become in latter day America when this is heralded as a “victory?” If the man was that guilty, why did he have to be tortured to the point of near insanity? I do not pretend to know if Jose Padilla supported terrorism or not. I do not know if he is as bad as the government says he is. What I do know is that what happened to him is a stain on the fabric of our democracy and the conviction this week does not change that. In fact, it only highlights what happens when we become so scared that we are willing to look the other way while our civil liberties are stripped away.

Our government took an American citizen and tortured him until they drove him insane. They could not even bring charges against him for what they had originally arrested him for. Instead they reached back a decade and found anything they could that might stick. Those of you out there that think this is good for our safety miss the point of being a democracy. You miss the point of what we are supposed to stand for. If you saw this story and thought it was a positive event for our nation, you have forgotten the faces of those who have died to protect the very democracy that is crumbling around us. If Jose Padilla is all it takes for us to compromise our most basic values as human beings then where does that leave us? No better than the tyranny we have fought against for over 200 years. We have become what we abhor. We now stand for what we have loathed.

When the protection of the free requires the removal of liberty, we are left to be free no more.
May God help us all.

Two al-CIAQaeda hijackers surrender peacefully

RIA Novosti

Sat, 18 Aug 2007 08:55 EDT

Two hijackers of an Istanbul-bound airliner have given themselves up to authorities, Turkish television has reported.

The surrender brings to an end a five-hour ordeal that began when the airplane, operated by Atlas-Jet and with 136 passengers on board, was seized shortly after taking off from Northern Cyprus by two men claiming to have a bomb and demanding to be flown to Tehran. They have tentatively been identified as a Turkish national and a Palestinian.

Comment: Bush and the gang must be thrilled. This is an opportunity they were looking for: Evil al-Qaeda members, while one of them Palestinian non the less, hijacked an airplane full of innocent civilians.

The plane made an emergency landing in the resort town of Antalya, where most of the passengers were able to escape after forcing open a rear door.

Comment: Hmm… very professional.

Both pilots also jumped clear, and only the hijackers, two stewardesses and three passengers remained on board as negotiations with police began. The hijackers eventually freed their remaining hostages before surrendering a short time later.

Earlier, some passengers who escaped reported that the hijackers claimed they were members of al-Qaeda, although others said they did not identify themselves.

Comment: “Passengers who escaped reported that the hijackers claimed they were members of al-Qaeda”. Really?
They are Arabs who are hijacking an airplane and demanding it to be flown to Tehran, therefore they MUST be the all powerful al-Qaeda. Doesn’t matter that they allowed most of their hostages to run away. Mission was accomplished.

The jet was seized shortly after takeoff from Ercan airport on Northern Cyprus, with one of the hijackers claiming to have a bomb and threatening to blow the airplane up.

However, they were reportedly unable to break down the pilot cabin door and the crew proceeded to land in Antalya.

9/11 Lies Uncover : Another Firefighter Testifies On Explosions Inside WTC

We Are Change

Wednesday, August 8, 2007

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Firefighter John Schroeder, assigned to Engine Company 10 directly across the street from the World Trade Center complex, holds back tears and describes his first-hand experience on Sept. 11th. His story directly contradicts many aspect of the National Commission on Terrorist attacks though corroborates many other eyewitness testimony.

“Standing outside the firehouse with my buddies, we were talking about how beautiful the day was. Then just like that, our lives changed forever. Some of those guys I would never see again.”

In this exclusive interview, Firefighter Schroeder recollects in great detail how he was one of the first firefighters to rush to the complex. “We first assembled on West Street, where we saw someone burnt beyond recognition. We were like ‘What is going on here?’ and then went straight into the Marriot building” From there, Firefighter Schroeder made his way to the lobby of the North Tower. “It looked like a bomb went off, and we started making our way up the stairs to rescue as many people as we could.”

As they were making there way up the floors, Firefighter Schroeder heard a huge explosion. “The elevators just blew right out. We couldn’t believe it. The plane hits 80 floors up but the elevators explode at least five minutes later? It was unreal.”

Firefighter Schroeder made it all the way up to the 23rd floor before barely hearing on the failing radios that another plane was coming in. That plane would hit the South Tower though for some reason “We were tossed like a rag doll by another explosion in our building. People were making there way down the stairwells burnt like you couldn’t believe. We were all shocked because it seemed as if there was fire everywhere, on so many floors. It just didn’t make sense”.

The stairwells were black, and at that point, firefighters were making the decision to head back down stairs. In making there way down to the third floor, they were not able to find an exit. “The lobby was like a war zone. We could not find our way out. Then, all of a sudden, one of the maintenance workers had a key that opened a back door that got us out of there. He saved my life.” That worker was Willie Rodriguez. “I want to thank him from the bottom of my heart.

Firefighter Schroeder today has lost 40% of his lung capacity. “We haven’t been treated properly at all. From the day of the attack, our physical and mental health has deteriorated and it seems as if no one cares. To lose friends, to have to recover their bodies in the days after, to be offered no protections against that horrific-smelling dust that was everywhere even though the government said the air was OK to breathe is just not right.” Some of Firefighter’s Schroeder’s best friends have gotten out of the FDNY altogether while others accepted money and trips to help. “I stayed right here and did the right thing and now it feels as if I’m suffering the most. Where is our government to help the one’s with the toughest jobs on that day and the days after?”

John Schroeder, we want to thank you for being as brave as your job requires in speaking out about your experiences on Sept/ 11th. You have set the historical record straight by explaining your story. This Nation is forever greatful to you as your account will help to save and protect many more lives.

Today, tens of thousands of such 9/11 first responders are in dire need of medical care due to the environmental conditions after the 3 towers imploded at Ground Zero. Diagnosed with cancers and debilitating respiratory illnesses, these true American heroes have been denied the financial benefits required to save their lives. While suffering and deteriorating, their health crisis has been ignored by state and federal policy. Many have already died.

Composed of family members, friends and fellow Americans of individuals who perished on that fateful day, We are Change will fight to raise awareness and consciousness to the first responder’s illnesses and hardships. We are determined to put a face to the thousands of forgotten victims of the 9/11 attacks 6 years later.

9/11 Lies Uncover : Why do we believe Zionists are the masterminds of the September 11 attack?

Why do we believe Zionists are the masterminds

of the September 11 attack?

Let us count the reasons…

updated 13 April 2006

[]

1) The Five Dancing Arabs

Five Arabs — dressed in Arab clothing — were seen celebrating after the World Trade Center towers were hit with airplanes.
Later that day he police spotted their van and stopped the. The police discovered that they were Israeli army veterans, not Arabs.
Their Arab clothing was discovered in their van, along with box cutters and weapons, and their visas had expired, so they were in the country illegally. They were arrested and put in a federal jail in Brooklyn.
However, they were not investigated. Rather, they were released from jail and sent back to Israel. About 60 other young Israeli Jews were arrested in the weeks following the 9-11 attack. They were also sent back to Israel without any investigation.
www.washingtonpost.com A3879-2001Nov22
Reports several months later claim that up to 200 young Israelis, some of them former members of military intelligence units, had been arrested and sent back to Israel without any investigation.

You can watch 3 of the 5 dancing Israelis talking about this on Israeli television:

2) The Israeli spy ring

Carl Cameron, of Fox news, has a four-part investigation into an Israeli spy ring. The exposé was shown once, and then erased from the Fox web site, never to be seen again.
You can watch Cameron’s video here:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAoe26MaTew
Since Cameron’s report is coming from a Zionist media company, they try to twist the story to make is appear as if the Israelis were spying on the evil Arabs terrorists who did 9/11.
Cameron’s program is what we refer to as “damage control”. Try to learn from this deception so that you don’t get fooled by it.
By spying on American military, FBI, and other officials, the Israelis would know how to avoid getting caught, and they could acquire blackmail material over the large number of immoral officials.

3) Larry Silverstein is a Zionist

Larry Silverstein was the landlord of Building 7, and he got control of the World Trade Center towers a few weeks before the attack. He quickly replaced some of the security and maintenance personnel. He is receiving billions of dollars in insurance money as a result of the 9-11 the attack.
Silverstein announced on television that the fire department decided to demolish Building 7 rather than put out the fires. If you have not heard this video clip, please watch the video 9/11, A Closer Look, at this site:
www.HugeQuestions.com
Larry Silverstein and Benjamin Netanyahu are such close friends that Netanyahu would call Silverstein every Sunday:
haaretzdaily.com itemNo=97338
Hufschmid explained the significance of Silverstein’s friends in a speech for a 9/11 conference in Italy:
Italian-911-Conference-17Sep2006.html

4) Pentagon cannot account for $2.6 trillion

The accountants at the Pentagon claim that they cannot account for $2.6 trillion. The man at the top of this accounting mess is Dov Zakheim, a dual Israeli/American citizen.
In testimony before the Congress, Donald Rumsfeld minimizes it as an innocent mistake:

SEC. RUMSFELD:

I know Dr. Zakheim’s been trying to hire CPAs because the financial systems of the department are so snarled up that we can’t account for some $2.6 trillion in transactions that exist, if that’s believable. And yet we’re told that we can’t hire CPAs to help untangle it in many respects.

And then he makes a joke about it:

REP. LEWIS: Thank you, Mr. Moran.

Mr. Secretary, the first time and the last time that Dov Zackheim and I broke bread together, he told me he would have a handle on that 2.6 trillion by now. (Laughter.) But we’ll discuss that a little –

SEC. RUMSFELD: He’s got a handle; it’s just a little hot. (Laughter.)

The transcript is here:
www.dod.gov/speeches/2001/s20010716-secdef2.html

5) The 9/11 attack follows a pattern

Israelis have been caught many times as they stage terrorist attacks and blame them on Arabs or Nazis. This is called “false flag” operations. We have a short video to explain “false flag opertions” at this page:
HowToHelp.html
The actual video is:
www.iamthewitness.com/video/FrenchConnection_6.wmv

• The Israeli attack on the USS Liberty in 1967

• The Zionist boycott of German products in 1933 was intended to create anger towards Jews. This is a complex but very important issue; when you find the time, here are some articles to help you understand this:
- Ben Freedman
- Samuel Untermyer (updated with image from 1933 newspaper)
• A list of Zionist deceptions:

6) Israelis are suspected of instigating fights even today in Iraq

Who really was behind the abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison? Take a look at the Israeli ties to the abuse at Abu Ghraib:
www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?read=48426
Who is “John Israel”?

http://judicial-inc.biz/Mercs_ambush_marines.htm

7) The media is controlled by Zionists

One the most important pieces of evidence that Zionists are the masterminds to almost all the world’s corruption is that they dominate the media of Europe, North America, and Australia.
No crime network could get away with a crime as enormous as the September 11 attack unless they can suppress investigations and evidence.
The media executives must either be under the control of the crime network, or they must be part of the crime network.
Some people claim that the media companies are helpless victims of a mysterious, nebulous group called the Globalists, or the New World Order, or the Illuminati.
However, until somebody can identify these mysterious people and explain how they force media companies around the world to cover up horrendous crimes, it makes more sense to assume that the media is directly involved in these crimes, and they are among the top members of this criminal network.
The most logical explanation is that the Zionists are promoting other Zionists to top positions in the government, media, banking, Hollywood, and education. The more Zionists they promote, the easier it is for them to take control of the nation and suppress evidence of their network.
• Zionist Power Structure In America
www.the7thfire.com chapter_7
• One of many lists of Jews:
www.reference.com/browse/wiki/List_of_Jews
The Zionists remove complaints about them, or they condemn critical remarks as “anti-Semitic”. For example, did you know that President Truman was irritated by Zionists:
www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A40678-2003Jul10
Truman was pushed into helping Israel get established. Here is a brief description of Israel’s history to help you understand why Truman was irritated:
www.EricHufschmid.net/HistoryOfIsraelAndTheUSA.html

8) Zionists have a world-wide network

Millions of dollars of profit were made from suspicious stock trades. The governments of America, Europe, and Japan announced plans to investigate in order to determine who the investors were. However, every investigation was terminated.
When looking for the crime network behind the September 11 attack, we must find a network that has tremendous influence in many nations. Does the Bush family have this much control over the world? Does Dick Cheney? Does any Italian crime gang?
The only group that seems to have a network this large are the Zionists. The Zionists have been setting up organizations around the world since their movement became officially established in 1897. For example:
• The Zionist Federation of Australia
www.zfa.com.au
• In the UK
www.zionist.org.uk
• In Hungary
www.cionista.hu

9) Most of the 9/11 truth seekers are Zionists

Jews make up a small portion of America and Europe, and Zionist Jews are an even smaller percentage, but they dominate the 9/11 truth movement. Could this be because Zionists are more interested in exposing the 9/11 crime? Smith thinks not.
It is more likely because they are trying to fool people into thinking that they are the truth seekers, when in reality they are diverting everybody’s attention away from Israel and onto Bush, Cheney, the CIA, and a few military leaders.
Please consider that the people you trust to expose corruption, such as Amy Goodman (of Democracy Now), Alex Jones (www.infowars.com), Webster Tarpley (author of 9/11 Synthetic Terror: Made in USA), Dave von Kleist (The PowerHour radio show), and hundreds or thousands of others are deceiving us.
Why would those people lie? Here is an introduction:
To get away with crimes, pretend to be a crime fighter
Examples of Truth Seekers who are Zionists:
Crypto Zionists
What are Handlers?

10) Most people pushing UFOs are Zionists

Zionists promote a lot of idiotic theories, such as the idea that the airplanes that hit the World Trade Center towers were either holograms or illusions created by blue screen technology.
This is evidence that they are trying to send people down the wrong path, and create the impression that conspiracy theories are stupid.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to figure out who among us has been fooled into believing these idiotic theories; who is deliberately lying about them; and who has been threatened, bribed, or blackmailed into promoting them. Examples are Morgan Reynolds and Jimmy Walter:
The Bovine Gas Theory
Jimmy Walter promotes Blue Screens
Another example is a person who calls himself Ghostwolfemoon. He posts messages on the Internet. One of his recent messages promotes UFOs:
US astronauts spotted UFO’s on moon???
And in this message he promotes Alex Jones, Bob Bowman, and the theory that Cheney is the main suspect for 9/11:
Cheney main 9-11 suspect????
Jeff Rense promotes UFO theories on a regular basis. One of his most recent:
Were US astronauts ordered not to report UFOs & aliens?

11) AIPAC and Jack Abramoff

Does Jack Abramoff — another Zionist — merely provide Israel with influence over America? Or did he assist with the 9/11 attack?
Daniel Hopsicker thinks so; he reported that days before the 9/11 attack, Mohamed Atta and several other alleged hijackers were invited on Abramoff’s casino boats:
www.madcowprod.com/06202005.html
If this accusation turns out to be true, this is evidence that the hijackers were patsies for the Zionists. Furthermore, Abramoff’s connections with AIPAC, Tom delay, and other people should be investigated.
Professor Cole describes Jack Abramoff’s “charity” as a front for Zionist terrorism.
www.washington-report.org/archives/March_2006/0603028.html
Of course, Daniel Hopsicker is like many of the “9/11 truth seekers”; specifically, he provides some valuable information, but tries to convince us that everything is the fault of the Bush administration or CIA.

12) Goyim are the victims, not Zionists

News reports frequently remind us that Arabs and Iranians are determined to destroy Israel. For example:
www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3239476,00.html
However, most of their victims are other Arabs, or goyim from America and Britain. Why don’t the Arabs attack Israelis? Why don’t they attack American Zionists?
For example, the Syrians are blamed for killing Rafik Hariri, the former Prime Minister of Lebanon:
www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/02/14/beirut.explosion/index.html
However, the crater from this car bomb is a sign that the bomb was actually underground, not in a car:
Bollyn-Hariri-Feb2005.html
Bollyn-Hariri-Nov2006.html
On October 15, 2003, another large bomb destroyed a car, supposedly with CIA agents inside:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3193248.stm
It also excavated a crater that has the telltale signs of the bomb that was underground:
http://judicial-inc.biz/cia_in_gaza.htm

[]

Have you seen the enormous crater from the 1996 “truck bomb” at the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia that killed US Military personnel:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Khobartowersgroundzero.jpg
How does Al Qaeda do this?
If you believe the Arabs are doing this with car bombs, please look at this “Science Challenge” and pass it to college students:
www.EricHufschmid.net/Science_Challenge_12.html
And if you think this is going to stop anytime soon, please read this, and think about it:
www.EricHufschmid.net/Conspiracies5.htm
We do not yet have enough people who care. Will we in the future? Only if you can help us find more people who are tired of the corruption.

More information on the Zionist connection in our interviews, such as this one with Christopher Bollyn:
DarylBradfordSmithInterviewsBollyn.html

Conclusion

Standing up to Italian crime gangs is not anti-Italian; standing up to American crime gangs is not anti-American; and standing up to homosexuals who have been blackmailed over their homosexuality is not anti-homosexual.
So don’t be fooled into thinking that standing up to Zionist crime gangs is anti-Semitic!
When you are ready to stop being a victim of crime networks, join with us by helping to educate people.
And prepare to fight this criminal network:

Bush Blunders, Somalia Suffers

Latest U.S. involvement draws Somalia back to the anarchy of the last 15 years

Liam Bailey (wordsworth)

Published 2007-08-16 15:09 (KST)

Somalia is another country that mistakes made by the U.S. in the past have caused problems leading to current, recent and probably future mistakes. After Somalia’s dictator Siad Barre was ousted in 1991 a similar situation as that of present day Iraq arose. With the brutality of a dictatorship gone, a ticking time-bomb exploded — though unlike Iraq the bomb was clan warfare not sectarian warfare.

After all this time, Somalia’s civil war still hasn’t ended. In 1993 the U.S./U.N. sent in peacekeepers because of the heavy civilian death toll. Their mission: to enforce the latest peace agreement, disarm clan militias and engage one faction that refused to cooperate with the peace initiative — namely, warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid’s faction. Aidid’s militia inflicted heavy casualties on the U.S./U.N force, culminating in the Black Hawk down incident Oct. 3 – 4 1993, with the vicious killing of 18 American soldiers, 1 Malaysian, and the wounding of 83 U.S, 7 Malaysian and 2 Pakistani troops.

On Oct. 6 President Clinton ordered an end to all U.S. operations in Somalia except self-defense, announcing that all U.S. forces would withdraw no later than March 31 1994 — not least because the dead soldier’s bodies were dragged through the streets by elated civilians. There were similar scenes during the recent peacekeeping mission.

When the peacekeepers left, Somalia went back to much the same as it had been before: Protection racketeering, hijacking and open battles between rival warlords and their respective clans/factions. Mogadishu residents — as always — suffered worst.

The warlords formed the Transitional National Government when they met in Djibouti 2000, but it improved nothing in Somalia. The battles between the warlords and rival clans/factions lessened, but that just freed up more gunmen to roam the streets robbing, raping and pillaging. The situation remained the same after the Transitional Federal Government (T.F.G.) was formed at a second meeting in Kenya 2004.

The Union of Islamic Courts (U.I.C.) began to sweep to power mid-2006, they swept the chaos and violence away, replacing it with their brand of socially restrictive but peaceful and secure calm in the areas they controlled. Children could go back to school and nurses could treat the sick instead of droves of war wounded.

Because of this the U.I.C. enjoyed popular support, not least from the businessmen who founded and funded the growingly popular group. The U.I.C. had the T.F.G. and its warlords holed up in one town, Baidoa within months. Ethiopian troops began appearing in and around Baidoa to strengthen the T.F.G. foothold. The U.I.C. began to attract the world’s attention, not least with their threats to attack the Ethiopian invaders, as well as reports of the U.I.C. closing cinemas and stoning women for not wearing Hijab’s.

Their hard-line brand of Salafist Islam and Islamic (Sharia) Law put the U.I.C. on the U.S.’ radar; in the crosshairs of the War on Terror. Not too long after that the inevitable Al Qaeda connection was made. I am not denying an Al Qaeda connection to a few members of the group, though I would say more U.I.C. hardliners sought Al Qaeda affiliation than actually had it. But nor will I deny that a large number of U.I.C. followers were (are) hard-line Islamists, because it was in fact that branch of the group that was responsible for their firepower and rapid sweep to power. But there was a moderate following just as large and powerful within the group.

Now anyone with any sense, seeing that the U.I.C was easily defeating the warlord T.F.G. and seeing that they were restoring order in Somalia for the first time in 15 years, would have been attempting to talk with the U.I.C. — even if only the moderates. Attempting to gain assurances on its treatment of women and civilians, attempting to get them to make a public address condemning Al Qaeda and all it stood for — in return for international recognition and assistance.

But the U.S. and all its followers including the U.N. still refused to give the group validity. U.N. Resolution 1725 was passed authorizing a possible peacekeeping force, and reiterating that the T.F.G. was the only recognized Somali government, that the U.N. saw the T.F.G. as the only route to a peaceful Somalia, and stating that any group targeting the T.F.G. would be dealt with.

But it was when the U.I.C. made their final advance to crush the T.F.G. once and for all that Bush really excelled himself in the proving stupidity stakes.

Bush would have been told (he certainly wouldn’t have known) about the long-running (since 1964) history of hatred and violence between Somalia and Ethiopia. So, Bush, supporting, or possibly even initiating Ethiopia’s invasion of Somalia to re-instate the T.F.G. government and crush the U.I.C. was like supporting an Israeli invasion of Lebanon to crush a movement regarded as a terror group. Oh, that’s right, Bush did that too, but that’s another article.

With the summer Lebanon war and the Iraq quagmire as models, Bush should have known that a nation invading a country where it is hated is going to meet fierce resistance from dedicated but invisible fighters coming from and/or bedded into the civilian population. An insurgency of almost never ending numbers, well, more recycling numbers; every innocent killed by the invaders creates more insurgents.

So Somalia’s citizens are still suffering from Bush’s error. The calm and relative normality under the U.I.C. has been replaced by their insurgency and the same tribal issues as before the U.I.C. took power: sporadic gunfire, mortars, Ethiopian and Ugandan peace keeper deaths, civilian deaths, general insecurity and anarchy. The situation is worse in Mogadishu than much of the country.

This is all made worse by the fact that there was no reason to invade Somalia, as I said the U.I.C. were restoring order. The moderate elements should have been strengthened by conditional international recognition and support. Like doctors who bury their mistakes, this is just another U.S. mistake that the world has to live with.

Lebanese army bombs camp in bid to flush out militants

This is one situation where I find Hizbullah’s position opportunistic, unprincipled and frankly disgusting. Earlier in the siege of the camp, Hizbullah said that the destruction of the camp and harming the Palestinian refugees inside (40,000) was “a red line.”

More than two months have passed since that declaration, and now Hizbullah, with the rest of the Lebanese, including Fascist forces, is cheering for that destruction! Hizbullah: our memories are not that short and we as Palestinians will not forget and forgive that position on your part.

Worse still, while Hizbullah was prompt in providing aid to the Lebanese refugees from last summer’s destruction of their villages by Israel, no help whatsoever to the Palestinians who were displaced primarily to Baddawi refugee camp was provided by Hizbullah. To their credit, Palestinian refugees in Sidon and Tyre opened their modest homes to the Lebanese refugees last summer, but that generosity was not reciprocated by Hizbullah.

Al-Manar Special – Hanan Awarekeh
“Lebanese army troops on Sunday again bombarded the north Lebanon Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared in a bid to smash underground bunkers sheltering militants of Fatah al-Islam. A military helicopter bomb a section of the camp from where the intermittent sound of gunfire could also be heard. The raid followed one on Saturday when for the first time the military used a 400-kilogram (880-pound) bomb, instead of the 250-kilo bombs used almost daily since it began using air power on August 9.
An army spokesman said the military’s firepower gave them “control of the zone held by the militants, but the army had to clean up the terrain before being able to advance.”
The military estimates the militants now number only around 70 fighters but that they are holed up “in five or six well-equipped shelters.” More than 100 people suspected of belonging to the militant group have been arrested. In the three months of fighting more than 200 people have been killed, including 136 soldiers. It is not known how many militants have died. Some of those held will face murder charges, the official said, while others will be charged with belonging to the group, they are Lebanese Palestinians, Saudis, Syrians and a small number of people of other nationalities.
An official said those arrested would be tried by a civilian court and that files on the suspects had been given by the military to Lebanon’s state prosecutor Said Mirza, who was preparing to start prosecuting early this week. The fighting erupted three months ago when the militant group launched a series of attacks around Nahr al-Bared and killed 27 soldiers. Some of those now being held were detained in the nearby main town of Tripoli, while others were seized trying to flee the besieged camp.”

How did Suha Arafat amass all these millions?

How did Suha Arafat amass all these millions?

Khalid Amayreh, thepeoplesvoice.org

Occupied East Jerusalem, August 17, 2007

There have been consistent reports that Suha Arafat, widow of the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, has withdrawn tens of millions of dollars’ worth of investment from Tunis, prompting the Tunisian authorities to strip her of the Tunisian citizenship.

Some news agency reported this week that Suha’s investments in Tunisia were estimated to be in the vicinity of $40 million.

Well-connected sources in Ramallah have intimated that Suha Arafat “inherited” hundreds of millions of dollars registered under her deceased husband’s name in several European banks. The vast bulk of the money is believed to have belonged to Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

This writer sought to raise this subject with several Palestinian officials in Ramallah.

The officials agreed to speak rather reluctantly and only on condition of “anonymity” citing the “sensitivity of the subject.”

I spoke to one veteran official in Ramallah, who I was told is responsible for dealing with “the issues of administrative and financial corruption.”

The man didn’t ask for anonymity, but I have opted to not mention his name lest he be physically harmed by he gurus of corruption or fired from his job.

M.A. (his initials) said he was well aware of the “subject” and would love to see “real journalists dig for the truth.”

“You know and I know that this is the Palestinian people’s money. These millions didn’t belong to Yasser Arafat, they belong to the Palestinian people. Besides, the fact that these millions were embezzled or arrogated four or five years ago, doesn’t mean that it is hopeless or too late to set the record straight.

“On the other hand, we can’t just indict Suha Arafat or anybody else based on rumors and unsubstantiated reports.”

M.A. said the first culprit in this issue is the Palestinian legislative council, which he said should have placed the subject on the top of its agenda from the very inception.

“I don’t know why they didn’t discuss the subject. I think the failure to discuss this paramount matter amounted to a breach of trust and betrayal of the people.”

I confronted Hasan Khreishe, deputy-speaker of the Palestinian legislative council, with these serious accusations and asked him what he knew about Suha Arafat’s alleged millions.

Khreiishe, speaking cautiously and circumspectly, said the legislative council didn’t start an investigation into Suha Arafat’s wealth because “we didn’t have credible evidence warranting launching an investigation.”

I asked the veteran MP, who in 2003 headed the investigation of so-called cement scandal, if he knew the fate of PLO secret accounts and investment schemes in Palestine and abroad, Khreishe said he didn’t know much and the little he knew came from the media.

Asked if he thought the Palestinian government should seek to obtain information from foreign governments, including the Tunisian government, as to details of bank accounts belonging to Arafat’s widow, Khreishe said “this the government’s business, not ours.”

When further asked if he would press the Palestinian government to ask foreign governments for information on Suha Arafat’s financial details, Khreishe sought to evade the question, saying that “this matter is more judicial than legislative, and that the ball was in the media’s court to produce concrete evidence incriminating Suha Arafat.

“Two hundred million dollars”

Very few people were aware of Yasser Arafat’s financial assets during his lifetime. One of these was Muhammed Rashid, the late Palestinian leader’s economic advisor, who is now living in Cairo.

Rashid has consistently refused to give details of Arafat’s secret bank accounts and other assets, saying he would report only to the Palestinian Authority.

According to an al Jazeera report a few years ago, Arafat had written a will leaving some of his fortune to his wife and their daughter, Zahwa. However, other reports said Arafat left no will, leaving most of his fortune in the hands of Rashid and Suha. However, it is uncertain if Rashid behaved single-mindedly with Arafat’s financial empire, or if he “settled things” quietly with Suha following Arafat’s death.

At the time of his death, Arafat’s assets were estimated at $200 million by the Forbes magazine. Forbes listed him ninth in its ranking of the world’s wealthiest heads of state, even though he was a ruler without a country and many of his people were (are) suffering from abject poverty. Other sources, including the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), put Arafat’s fortune at $6 billion dollars, a figure exaggerated according to several PLO figures I have talked to.

Suha Tawil, 30 years younger than Arafat, married the PLO leader in 1992 in Tunisia where she worked for the PLO headquarters in Tunis. Suha returned with Arafat to Gaza where the couple lived alternately in Gaza and Ramallah. However, in 2001, she took their child, Zahwa, to Paris, where they continued to live until the late 2005, when they moved to Tunis.

Suha lived a lavish and luxurious life in the French capital where it was rumored that the money she spent per month would cover the basic needs of five thousand Palestinian refugees in a place like Jabalya in the Gaza Strip.

In 2004, the French authorities began investigating the transfer of $11.5 million from Swiss bank accounts to accounts in France controlled by Suha Arafat.

Then Suha reportedly lambasted the French authorities for ordering the investigation.

“What is so strange for the Palestinian president to send any amount of money to his family and his wife, who is protecting the Palestinian interests abroad!!, and the money came and will come legally,” Suha was quoted as saying during an interview with the London-based Saudi-financed al Hayat Arabic newspaper.

Following Arafat’s death in November, 2004, and wishing to settle “the problem” with Suha quietly, Palestinian Authority leaders, e.g. Fatah leaders, reportedly struck a deal with Suha whereby she agreed to receive a large amount of Arafat’s fortune as well as a monthly stipend of tens of thousands of dollars for the rest of her life, all in return for shutting her mouth.

While the exact details of Suha’s present fortune are still not known, it is very likely that the bulk of her assets has been arrogated from monies that belonged to the Palestinian people. Suha was not known as a businesswoman and she didn’t hail from a particularly rich family. Her mother, Rimonda Tawil published a weekly magazine in East Jerusalem, called al Awda, which was financed by the PLO. And she inherited very few assets from her father.

So, how did she amass all this wealth, all these hundreds of millions of dollars?

In simple English, it seems we are talking about a huge theft by every conceivable standard of logic. I know that a suspect is innocent until proven guilty. However, it this case, the guilt screams to the seventh haven. People don’t just make hundreds of millions that easily and in such a short period of time.

Besides Yasser Arafat’s bank accounts, secret or otherwise, didn’t belong to him personally but to the Palestinian people.

More to the point, the late Palestinian leader, with all due respect to his struggle for freedom and statehood, had no right to leave hundreds of millions or tens of millions of dollars to his wife and daughter. These millions were not his. They belonged to the people.

Hence, it is imperative that the Palestinian society raise the issue and exert meaningful pressure on government officials so that they immediately order a full and comprehensive investigation into Suha Arafat’s finances.

The people of Palestine have every right to know where every cent of Suha’s millions came from, and if a genuine investigation is carried out and incriminating evidence is obtained, then the PA will have to seek her extradition so that she will stand trial for corruption and embezzlement of the Palestinian people’s money.

This is test case not only for the Palestinian resolve to fight corruption, but also for the seriousness of our quest for independence and statehood.

After all, corrupt politicians who cover up corruption and protect the grand thieves can’t be entrusted with the fate of the people and the country.

WHERE ARE ARAFAT’S MILLION$?

WHERE ARE ARAFAT’S MILLION$?

(Ben Heine © Cartoons)

[]

Q What do Mona Lisa and Suha Arafat have in common? A Both are worth million$.

The similarities end there. Mona is loved, treasured for her beauty and uniqueness.

Suha is despised by the nation she betrayed, stole from and turned her back on.

Suha Arafat just might be the main reason that Fatah lost out in the Palestinian election. She has become the symbol of corruptness and betrayal never before known to the Palestinian people.

While her husband languished as a virtual prisoner of the Israelis, this ‘Grand Dutchess of Ramallah’ lived in the most expensive hotels available in Paris.
Her husband was ‘allowed’ to leave his prison only to die, and return only to be entombed. The ‘Dutchess’ accompanied him on the ‘return trip’, but then disappeared back to the lifestyle of the rich and famous as her people were literally starving to death.

Twice this week, Yasser Arafat was the subject of these pages; the first about how he died, the second about who killed him.
Now we come to a third question, but one definitely connected to the other two; what happened to the millions of dollars he secretly hoarded away in European bank accounts?

The answers that eventually surface to the third question will certainly shed light on the other two. Khalid Amayreh continues his ‘investigation’ on these matters. His latest essay is presented below.

How did Suha Arafat amass all these millions?

Denmark’s murderous war alliance with USA : War Criminal

Denmark’s murderous war alliance with USA

ron ridenour, Axis of Logic

August 18, 2007

Denmark, one of the few nations left in the US war coalition, withdrew its 500 battlefield troops from Iraq during the first week of August only to send in 80 “instructors” with four helicopters, while also sending more soldiers to kill and die in Afghanistan (about 650) and the Sudan.

The majority of Danes believe that their country is now out of the hopeless war against Iraq, and that their eight dead soldierssix killed by combatant resistance forces, one killed in “friendly fire, one dead of a heart attackare innocent victims and heroes.

I believe that Denmark continues warring and that all who participateboth those who give the orders and those volunteer soldiers who fulfill themare guilty of mass murder and war crimes.

Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rassmussen told the daily “Ekstra Bladet”, August 10, that Denmark continues to send “instructors” to Iraq, that it was “right to go in” and that he “regrets nothing.”

So long as Danes subjugate themselves to USA’s permanent war strategy they will die on the various battlefields the hegemonists choose. The only way to prevent more deaths and the only decent morality is to withdraw from their terror wars everywhere.

The majority of Danish anti-war activists see the troop withdrawal as a victory for peace. So do I but only partially, because the governmentwith the backing of the opposition in Parliament including the formerly left-wing People’s Socialist Partycontinues to be a warring occupier, albeit in the false name of “rebuilding” the lands they destroy.

These politician terror warriors are war criminals just as those who vote for them act criminally.

I believe that most Danes are completely indifferent that Iraqis are killed and tortured yet they can not accept that invading Danish soldiers shall be killed.

How hypocritical it is that the invading murderers are called victims and heroes while the innocent invaded people, who defend themselves, are called “terrorists”! When one states this obvious hypocrisy one is labeled “terrorist spokesman” and “traitor”.

If the invading troops were not killed by the occupied peoples in their legitimate armed resistance struggle the invading states would have no reason to withdraw, as most are doing with the one exception: the United States of America.

Denmark is a belligerent war-criminal state, according to the nation’s own constitution (paragraph 19.2 and 20), former United Nations general secretary, Kofi Annan, and the UN Charter articles 2, 4, 42, 51. The UN Charter and the 1987 Geneva Convention grant the legal and moral right for the invaded to take up arms in their defense.

Furthermore, according to the UN Charter, several UN resolutions and the Nuremberg Court, war criminals shall face trials at the International Court. That means not only George Bush, Richard Cheney, Tony Blair but also Anders Fogh Rasmussen and company, those responsible for defying international law, who lied about the reasons for warringthe false claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction and ties to Al-Qaida, in order to rationalize launching an unprovoked oil-war against Iraqshall be arrested and placed before the Haag Court.

K.E. Loegstrup

My impression is that many Danes, just like US Americans, would rather follow Danish (or American) culture and religion than they would comply with United Nation laws, regardless that Denmark (and the US) has signed them. So let us hear what K.E. Loegstrup, one of Denmark’s most respected theologians and philosophers, has to say about co-responsibility and guilt.

In his master work, “The Ethical Demand”published originally in Danish, in 1956, (last published in English by Notre Dame/London, 1997)he wrote:

“The individual citizen…is an accomplice in all the disparity and need, which fellow citizens and countrymen experience due to insufficiency and poor rule…political responsibility lies in being co-responsible for others actions, especially the governors.”

In one of his sermons, “Piety’s unnatural difference between the powerful and ordinary people”, Loegstrup wrote that to be a Christian means: “To be joyous with justice and peace as a good and gracious vicissitude and struggle for that…”

My Denmark, My America

Many Danes still have not comprehended why Denmark has become hated by so many people around the world. This hatred hangs together with Denmark’s obsequious support for the USA’s constant warring and world domination goal.

Since the US invaded Vietnam, I have understood that the United States, with its rapacious capitalist economy and imperialist world reach, is a violent monster and therefore I took co-responsibility and supported the peoples it oppresses and invades. I continued thusly when I immigrated to Denmark and witnessed that that once peaceful country began to act as my former country doesin Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq.

My consciousness took form after I enlisted, in 1956, as a naïve “patriot” in the US Air Force. I had been raised with systematic lies just like the contemporary generation. When I entered college, in 1960, the US was already warring against Vietnamese but the war was hidden from US Americans in the name of “national security”. At that time, US invaders were called “instructors” for the “democratic” South Vietnam Quisling government troops, just as Danish soldiers are now called “instructors” for the “democratic” Iraqi government troops.

Once I understood the truth, that the majority of South Vietnamese and all North Vietnamese defended their country against the invading horde, I was compelled to support their just struggle otherwise I would have been immoral, a passive supporter of the mass murderers. Such is it to this day for both US Americans and, for the past decade, for Danes.

The Vietnamese leader, Ho Chi Minh, was their guide and hero, and “Uncle Ho” became mine as well. Afterwards, I realized that other oppressed peoples and their leaders were “the good guys”: Fidel and Che, Nicaragua’s FSLN, El Salvador’s FMLN, and many others who struggled for their country, to have a roof over head, for their own resources, for the right and necessity to kill the aggressors.

In 1984as Reagan’s Administration was actively warring against Nicaragua, even supporting the brutal counter-revolutionaries in their gruesome torturing and painful murdering of Nicaraguan children, students, teachers, social workers, even some international aides, and especially farmersI worked for several months in public relations and propaganda for the FSLN’s Association of Sandinistas Cultural Workers (ASTC). (1)

The difference between then and now is that it was formerly legal to speak the truth about the invaders, even to support the invaded. Western bourgeois democracy was then obliged to allow criticism of the illegal, murderous invaders. But todaywith the perfect 11/9 rationalization followed up by the US’s “Patriotic Act”, and mimicked by the “terror laws” of Denmark and the EUsuch statements of truth can land one behind bars for several years.

Armed with the fascistic “terror law”, the Danish state is about to prosecute two citizen groups, Uproar and Fighters and Lovers, for their support of liberation fighters in Colombia and Palestine.

Nazis, the racist Danish People’s Party, and the warring government’s mass murderers have civil liberty protection but that does not apply to anti-imperialists and war resisters, who support the just resistance fighters in many countries.

Another difference between then and now is that we live in a declared Permanent War Age, and we are supposed to simply swallow such without protest and without telling one another the truth. George Orwell’s worst 1984 nightmare has become daily life.

The Permanent War Age Goals:

• To spread and strengthen US hegemony over the whole world.

• To establish a long-term US military existence in all lands with oil and other natural resources and in lands where transportation of oil is most economical, such as Afghanistan; and in countries where there is significant resistance to US jingoism. This goal is beneficial for other rich capitalist states, such as Denmark whose A.P. Møller owns the world’s richest shipping company, which he uses to transport US’s troops and war machinery to their battlefields. (Møller also owns a new weapons industry, one of four in Denmark. Before 11/9 Denmark only had one small weapons producer.)

• The terror wars shall last for an unlimited time, in order, in part, to transform sections of civilian production into military production as well as give greater profit to oil, weapons and other heavy industries.

• Those of us living in the empire and its allied conquerors’ nations shall be frightened of the dark-skinned “terrorists”not the terror warriors, of coursereal and imagined. We shall especially not view the oppressed and invaded peoples’ armed resistance for what they are: real defenders of their countries’ sovereignty. We shall not think or act in solidarity. We shall accept the powers that be, their brutal jingoism and despicable racism. We shall either be active aggressors or passive by-standers. If we refuse to accept their endless, chaotic profit grab we shall be incarcerated.

We should realize that even when unacceptable terrorist actions against civilians do occur by individuals or groups, they take place after and because of the aggressors’ illegal and brutal incursions.

If one is determined to be a moral person one must stare the evidential reality in its face and condemn the United States of America for what it is: the world’s biggest terror state. Then we must take the next step and act in solidarity with the oppressed and invaded peoples. We must accept what international law has determined, that the aggressors can justly and legally be fought with arms, and that the aggressors must be brought before the International Court. Once tried and convicted, they must be incarcerated for their war crimes, genocide, and brutal racism.

The proof of my assertion, that the US is the world’s biggest terror state, lays in its contemporary wars of aggression and its long history. From the very first days of US sovereignty the “land of opportunity” has intervened against or invaded other peoples hundreds of times in a hundred lands. Throughout the late 18th and the entire 19th century, it conducted approximately 100 separate wars against Native Americans. Nearly all their tribes and nations were attacked, burned down, and hundreds of thousands of the country’s original people slaughtered. The US government has ignored or acted in opposition to every treaty it has signed with defeated tribes.

The federal government and some regional governments have tolerated or openly supported civilian paramilitary groups who have attacked, tortured and murdered Native Americans, black slaves and freed blacks, and Mexicans. The federal government has also supported paramilitary groups in their invasions of other countries: Mexico, Nicaragua, Honduras and others.

Much of this information can be found in the US government’s own websites and library records.

On June 23, 1969, it was reported in the U.S. Congressional Record that the US Marine Corp had made 180 military landings. Today, the US military has troops, bases and war materials in 120 of the 189 states in the United Nations.

The US has arranged 35 coups in 28 lands just since 1947!

I take from www.krysstal.com/democracy , a website based in the UK concentrating on education and information. It has a wealth of information with excellent sources, some of them official government sources, regarding coups, other interventions and invasion.

In six of the 28 countries’ in which governments were toppled the US has repeated their “teaching democracy” tactic with military might: Greece in 1949 and 1967; Guatemala in 1954 and 1963; South Vietnam in 1955 and 1963; Laos in 1958, 1959 and again in 1960; South Korea in 1960 and 1979; Bolivia in 1964 and 1970. It failed in Venezuela against the popularly elected president, Hugo Chavez, in 2002.

In addition to this illustrious record of democracy, the US has intervened with barrels of money, bombs and conventional weapons, with weapons of mass destruction including chemical, biological and atomic weapons, political and economic sanctions, and direct invasions with troops and bombings in 66 countries a total of 159 times just since 1947. (2)

The first country that the US intervened against following the Second World War was a key European ally, France. In 1947, it forced its will over the former empire’s elections, in order to secure France’s re-colonization of Vietnam, a prelude to its own imperial invasion.

When interventions are inadequate, the US has no qualms about outright invasions with bombings or troops or both. This it has performed in 15 countries since WW11:

Korea 1950-53; Cuba 1961; Vietnam from 1962 to 1975; Dominican Republic 1965; Laos between 1965 and 1972; Cambodia 1969-73; Lebanon 1982-3; Nicaragua 1982-1988; Panama 1989; Iraq 1991, with severe bombings thereafter and then the 2003 invasion; Somalia in 1992 and again in 2007; Sudan 1998; Afghanistan 2001.

Although the United States of America has far surpassed all other empires in its number of invasions and interventions against nearly half the world’s population, it has not received any sanctions by the UN or any other political or legal body. It was once judged by the International Court for mining Nicaraguan harbors, in 1984. Although it was the only nation so condemned by the International Court, the US was not punished, not even made to pay redemption. The US is so mighty that no nation, not even the United Nations, dare touch it. Words of admonition are the most that can be expected in this “real world”.

One nation, Japan, did attack it at its Pearl Harbor military base. That mistake, in 1941, will not be repeated, at least in any foreseeable future. And one time, a few individual terrorists did attack its Twin Tower buildings in Manhattanwhere many very rich companies have offices and headquartersand the empire’s generals’ Pentagon.

This shocking daring attack, on September 11, 2001, was a godsend for the so-called Neocons. Donald Rumsfeld had not long before prayed for an event like Pearl Harbor, in order to push throw the Project for a New American Century imperial plans, starting with the take-over of Iraq.

How the empire can be stopped

Ancient and contemporary history has taught us that what is necessary to overcome an invading nation are the following factors:

• The invaded people must fight back with arms and if the invaders manage to occupy their country they must continue armed struggle with strategies such as guerrilla warfare.

• The loyal armed resistance must exact such significant losses to the enemy that its will to continue is weakened by loss of money and material and the invading soldiers morale is depressed.

• That decent people in the aggressor land(s) act against the war for peace and, hopefully, in solidarity with the liberation fighters, in order to legitimize their righteous struggle in the eyes of working people in the empire. A mounting anti-war campaign will also encourage officials and civil servants in the empire to resign, even to act in solidarity with the oppressed.

Conclusion

I close with quotes I’ve compounded from Loestrup’s book, “The Ethical Demand”, for its prose and as an expression of my own philosophy:

“We are in each other’s hand…The individual never has anything to do with another person without holding something of his/her life in his hand…so it simply is up to the individual whether the other’s life is fortunate or not…To accept the fact without wanting to hear the challenge is thus the same as being indifferent to the question of whether life shall be supported or destroyed.”

If we wish to be free from more war deaths, both our own and others, we must take co-responsibility and act against the powers’ terror wars.
