Sectarian murder spree continues: 27 more bodies picked up Wednesday, Thursday.
In a dispatch posted at 11:04pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Aswat al-‘Iraq news agency, which was set up by Reuters and the U.N. Development Agency, reported that the Iraqi puppet police had picked up the bodies of 12 more victims of sectarian murder that had been dumped in various parts of Baghdad in the previous 24 hours.
Earlier, in a dispatch posted at 4:15pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that the Iraqi puppet police recovered the bodies of 15 more victims of sectarian murder that had been dumped in various parts of Baghdad on Wednesday.
The AMSI reported a source in the puppet police as saying that 12 of the bodies were found in the central al-Karakh district and the remaining three were picked up in various parts of ar-Rusafah.
Eleven US troops wounded in double car bomb attack on US camp in northern Baghdad area.
In a dispatch posted at 3:50pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that two Iraqi Resistance car bombs exploded by a camp jointly occupied by US forces and Iraqi puppet regime troops in the northern Baghdad suburb of at-Taji on Wednesday evening.
The AMSI reported that the US military acknowledged the attack and said that four Iraqi puppet regime troops were killed and four more of them wounded. An additional 11 US soldiers were wounded, some of them severely, the American announcement said.
Sources in the local puppet police said that the Americans in the camp opened fire on the puppet regime’s security troops who rushed to the facility after the attack. Evidently the Americans were trying to keep the Iraqi puppet troops from approaching the camp.
The suburb of at-Taji is located about 14 km north of Baghdad, but is with the Baghdad provincial area.
Powerful explosion shakes “Green Zone” Thursday.
In a dispatch posted at 12:39pm Baghdad time midday Thursday, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a powerful explosion shook the top-security area around the Republican Palace in downtown Baghdad – the area that the Americans have dubbed the “Green Zone” on Thursday.
The AMSI reported a spokesman for the US embassy admitting that the explosion took place but saying that he had no further information about it.
The US Embassy representative said, “I can confirm that an explosion was heard inside the ‘International area’ but we have no information about casualties.” Most western embassies, including the US and British missions, as well as the headquarters of the Iraqi puppet “government” are located within the high walls of the “Green Zone” whose security is a high priority of the American troops deployed there.
US troops blow up house in al-Ghazaliyah neighborhood before dawn Thursday.
In a dispatch posted at 11:14am Baghdad time Thursday morning, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that US forces planted explosives around a house in Baghdad’s al-Ghazaliyah neighborhood and blew it up, heavily damaging neighboring residences in an operation they carried out at 3am local time Thursday morning.
The AMSI reported local residents as saying that the powerful explosives completely demolished the house and damaged three more homes nearby.
US forces regularly destroy houses whose owners have left after being terrorized out by Shi‘i sectarian militias coming out of the ash-Shu‘lah district, AMSI noted.
Diyala Province.
Kan‘an.
Al-Qa‘idah fighters attack settlements near Kan‘an, killing 22 villagers and wounding 20 more.
In dispatches posted at 1:23pm and 4:14pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Aswat al-‘Iraq news agency, which was set up by Reuters and the U.N. Development Agency, reported that dozens of members of the al-Qa‘idah organization attacked two villages in the area of Ba‘qubah, 65km northeast of Baghdad, killing 22 people and wounding 20 more.
Aswat al-‘Iraq reported the puppet police chief in Ba‘qubah, Colonel ‘Ali Dilyan, as saying that al-Qa‘idah first bombarded the two villages of ash-Shaykh Tamim and Ibrahim al-Yahya – which are predominantly Sunni – and then dozens of al-Qa‘idah fighters attacked. Twenty-five people were killed in the barrage and subsequent assault by al-Qa‘idah and another 20 villagers were wounded.
The al-Qa‘idah attackers, whom Dilyan estimated to number over 100 men, fired rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns in the course of their assault on the villages. They destroyed a number of houses and captured Shaykh Yunus ‘Abd al-Hamid, the Imam of the Sunni al-Husayn Mosque and three of the young regular worshippers there. The al-Qa‘idah men tied up the Imam and the three youths in front of the mosque and executed them. Afterwards, they planted explosives and blew up the Sunni al-Husayn Mosque.
Local villagers clashed with the al-Qa‘idah men and when puppet police forces arrived on the scene they joined the villagers against the al-Qa ‘idah fighters. In all, Dilyan said, 10 of the al-Qa‘idah attackers and captured 22 more.
Nevertheless, the al-Qa‘idah gunmen abducted eight women and seven children from the village
The villages of ash-Shaykh Tamim and Ibrahim al-Yahya are located near the town of Kan‘an, which is 35km east of Ba‘qubah.
Informed sources and local notables in the area told Aswat al-‘Iraq that the Brigades of the 1920 Revolution Iraqi Resistance organization that had until recently been fighting alongside al-Qa‘idah against the American occupation and the puppet regime has recently begun fighting against al-Qa‘idah because of al-Qa‘idah’s practices of brutality against the local Sunni population.
Villagers told Aswat al-‘Iraq that many of the residents of the villages of ash-Shaykh at-Tamim and Ibrahim al-Yahya are supporters of the Brigades of the 1920 Revolution Resistance organization and that al-Qa‘idah attacked the village to punish the villagers of opting to support the 1920 Brigades rather than al-Qa‘idah. In keeping with the practices of al-Qa‘idah, anyone who refuses to recognize al-Qa‘idah’s self-proclaimed “Islamic State” is deemed an apostate who should be killed and whose property can be confiscated. In al-Qa‘idah’s practice, wives and children of “apostates” are also regarded as captured property.
Wasit Province.
Al-‘Aziziyah.
Bomb explosion destroys US Humvee in Wasit Province.
In a dispatch posted at 3:48pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Aswat al-‘Iraq news agency, which was set up by Reuters and the U.N. Development Agency, reported that a bomb exploded by a US patrol that was driving down the main road linking al-Kut city with the town of al-‘Aziziyah, about 75km southeast of Baghdad, before noon Thursday.
Aswat al-‘Iraq reported eyewitnesses as saying that the blast destroyed a US Humvee. Afterwards, a witness said, the Americans closed the road for about half an hour, preventing people from approaching the scene.
