Bila Indonesia Raya Didangdutkan

Sedang Al-Qur’an Ditadzkirahkan

Kalau ada seorang penyanyi yang membawakan lagu Indonesia Raya, lagu kebangsaan kita, dalam versi dangdut, syairnya pun diputar balikkan, kemudian penyanyinya memperkaya penampilannya di pangggung dengan goyang ngebor ala Inul Daratista, apa yang terjadi?

Penonton yang tidak mengerti etika dan kaidah memperlakukan sebuah lagu kebangsaan, pasti akan tertawa geli karena ini merupakan sesuatu yang lucu dan menghibur. Kemungkinan lain, ada yang menilai ini merupakan sebuah terobosan yang melawan kejumudan, sebuah kreativitas berkesenian yang tinggi dan perlu diapresiasi.

Tapi bagaimana dengan sang pencipta lagu Indonesia Raya, Wage Rudolf Supratman bila mendengar lagu ciptaannya dibawakan dalam langgam dangdut plus ngebor, masih pula syairnya diputar balikkan? Kemungkinan ia akan jengkel, marah, dan melaporkan pelakunya kepada aparat kepolisian.

Aparat kepolisian sendiri, sebagai alat negara, yang seharusnya menjaga simbol-simbol negara, tentu akan dengan sigap menangkap penyanyinya, pemain orkes, dan membubarkan penonton.

Sebuah lagu kebangsaan, pada dasarnya adalah rangkaian nada do re mi yang dikomposisi sedemikian rupa. Isi syairnya pun sudah tertata. Hingga seseorang atau sekelompok orang tidak boleh begitu saja membawakan lagu kebangsaan Indonesia Raya dalam versi dangdut, rock atau jazz dan sebagainya. Juga tidak boleh memutar balikkan isi syairnya.

Sekarang, kalau ada seseorang yang ‘memodifikasi’ Kitab Suci Al-Qur’an, memutar balikkan ayat-ayatnya, kemudian mengumpulkan hasil kerja ‘kreatifnya’ itu dalam bentuk sebuah kitab suci baru, apakah hal ini bisa dibenarkan?

Itulah yang dilakukan Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (MGA) terhadap Al-Qur’an. LPPI (Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengkajian Islam), Jakarta, pernah menerbitkan buku berjudul Ahmadiyah dan Pembajakan Al-Qur’an (Mei 1992, cetakan pertama). Di dalam buku itu disajikan ayat-ayat Al-Qur’an yang dibajak MGA sang nabi palsu laknatullah.

Misalnya, surat Ash-Shaff (61) ayat 9: Dialah yang mengutus Rasul-Nya dengan membawa petunjuk dan agama yang benar agar Dia memenangkannya di atas segala agama-agama.”

Surat tersebut dimodifikasi, dijiplak, dibajak oleh MGA sehingga menjadi: Dialah yang mengutus Rasul-Nya (Mirza Ghulam Ahmad) dengan membawa petunjuk dan agama yang benar agar Dia memenangkannya atas segala agama-agama semuanya. (Haqiqatul Wahyi hal. 71)

Pengertian arsala rosuulahu dalam Ash-Shaff (61) ayat 9 seharusnya berarti mengutus Rasul-Nya (Nabi Muhammad shallallahi ‘alaihi wasallam), oleh MGA diartikan sebagai dirinya sendiri (Mirza Ghulam Ahmad) yang diutus oleh Allah sebagai rasul.

Dari satu contoh ayat yang dijiplak oleh MGA ini saja, kita sudah bisa memastikan betapa sesatnya MGA ini. Dengan terang-terangan dia menjadikan dirinya sebagai nabi. Lha, kalau sosok penjiplak Al-Qur’an yang mengaku-aku sebagai nabi ini diposisikan sebagai mujaddid (pembaharu) oleh Ahmadyah Lahore, jelas Ahmadiyah Lahore juga sesat.

Apa-apa yang dilakukan MGA terhadap kitab suci Al-Qur’an jelas sebuah perbuatan yang melanggar hukum. Dia menipu sejumlah orang yang lemah akal dan lemah iman untuk disesatkan; juga untuk mengakui dirinya sebagai nabi yang menerima wahyu sebagaimana terangkum di dalam Tadzkirah, padahal Tadzkirah merupakan hasil jiplakan Al-Qur’an yang sudah diputar balikkan, dan aneka karangan MGA tetapi atas nama wahyu suci dari Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. Pantaskah terhadap pengikutnya dibela dan dikatakan punya hak mempertahankan keyakinannya?

Seharusnya, para pejuang HAM (hak Asasi manusia) tidak bodoh memposisikan diri. Karena, mengentas para pengikut MGA dari kesesatan, itu jauh lebih berarti, ketimbang membela mereka dengan alasan HAM. Sebab, hak yang paling asasi bagi seorang muslim adalah mendapat ajaran agama (Islam) yang sesuai dengan wahyu yang Allah turunkan kepada Nabi Muhammad shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam, bukan mengikuti wahyu-wahyuan hasil kerja ‘kreatif’ MGA.

Kalau toh MGA dan pengikutnya menggunakan nama berbeda dengan Islam, persoalannya belum selesai. Karena kasus bajak-membajak Al-Qur’an yang kemudian dikumpulkan ke dalam sebuah kitab suci baru bernama Tadzkirah, tetap menjadi persoalan tersendiri. Kalau mau, mereka bikin nama sendiri dan susun kitab suci sendiri yang tidak ada kaitannya dengan kitab suci umat Islam, dan jangan kait-kaitkan Nabi Muhammad shallallohu ‘alaihi wa sallam dengan Nabi Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. Tetapi ungkapan inipun bukan berarti kami menyuruh, hanya sekadar perbandingan dalam analisa.

Bila ketiga hal itu sudah dilakukan, maka persoalan dengan umat Islam sudah selesai. Selanjutnya menjadi urusan pemerintah, apakah mau diakui sebagai agama dan keyakinan yang hidup di lingkungan NKRI atau tidak, itu wewenang pemerintah.

Selama Ahmadiyah masih mengaitkan dengan Islam, dengan Nabi Muhammad shallallahi ‘alaihi wasallam, dengan Al-Qur’an (membajak, menjiplak, mengacak-acak Al-Qur’an), maka selama itu pulalah mereka masih berurusan dengan umat Islam.

Pengadu domba

Pernyataan sikap yang disampaikan Aliansi Kebangsaan untuk Kebebasan Beragama dan Berkeyakinan (AKKBB), berupa penolakan terhadap rekomendasi Bakor Pakem soal Ahmadiyah pada 16 April 2008 lalu, bukan sekedar mencari-cari popularitas semata, tetapi ada unsur memprovokasi dan mengadu domba antara umat Islam dengan penganut Ahmadiyah. Begitu juga dengan sikap dan pernyataan yang ditunjukkan sejumlah oknum ‘pendekar’ hukum dan HAM termasuk orang yang disebut-sebut di media sebagai si rambut putih yakni Buyung Nasution.

Kalau mereka bermaksud baik, tentu sebelum memutuskan untuk memposisikan diri membela Ahmadiyah, pelajari dulu dengan seksama sejarah dan ajaran Ahmadiyah, barulah menentukan pilihan dalam bersikap. Bila setelah tahu secara mendalam tentang Ahmadiyah, kemudian tetap memberikan pembelaan, ya sudah kita semua bisa dengan cepat mengerti bahwa mereka memang pendukung aliran dan paham sesat, sehingga umat Islam akan memasukkannya sebagai kelompok yang memerangi Islam. Cepat atau lambat akan disikapi dengan balasan yang setimpal.

Kalau belum paham tapi sudah memberikan pembelaan, itu namanya bahlul. Bukan hanya bahlul, tapi juga diskriminatif. Ahli hukum yang membela kesesatan, bahkan pembelaannya itu berlandaskan kebahlulannya, maka sangat keterlaluan. Memborong kengawuran dan kesalahan.

Dalam hadits ditegaskan:

عَنْ بُرَيْدَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : {الْقُضَاةُ ثَلاَثَةٌ : اثْنَانِ فِي النَّارِ، وَوَاحِدٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، رَجُلٌ عَرَفَ الْحَقَّ فَقَضَى بِهِ فَهُوَ فِي الْجَنَّةِ، وَرَجُلٌ عَرَفَ الْحَقَّ فَلَمْ يَقْضِ بِهِ وَجَارَ فِي الْحُكْمِ فَهُوَ فِي النَّارِ، وَرَجُلٌ لَمْ يَعْرِفْ الْحَقَّ فَقَضَى لِلنَّاسِ عَلَى جَهْلٍ فَهُوَ فِي النَّارِ} رَوَاهُ الأَرْبَعَةُ وَصَحَّحَهُ الْحَاكِمُ .

Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam bersabda: “Hakim itu ada tiga: dua di neraka, dan satu di surga. Lelaki yang mengenal kebenaran lalu menghakimi dengannya maka dia di surga, dan lelaki yang mengenal kebenaran lalu tidak menghakimi dengannya dan menyeleweng dalam menghukumi maka dia di neraka. Dan lelaki yang tidak tahu kebenaran lalu menghakimi manusia berlandaskan atas kebodohan maka dia di neraka.” (HR Abu Dawud, Tirmidzi, Nasai, Ibnu Majah, Thabrani, Al-Baihaqi dan dishahihkan oleh Al-Hakim, dari Buraidah ra, dishahihkan oleh Al-Albani)

Lebih buruk dari itu bila mereka justru memancing di air keruh, mencari keuntungan sambil mengadu domba. Sedang aliran sesat sebagai tunggangannya. (haji/tede)

‘Danish Editor burnt alive’

The editor of the Danish newspaper ‘Jyllands Posten’ was burnt to death when a fire mysteriously broke out in his bedroom, a Saudi newspaper claims.

According to the newspaper, the editor was sleeping in his bedroom when the fire ravaged his bedroom. He and his newspaper became controversial when it had published blasphemous caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The paper claims that the Danish govt is trying to cover up the news of the death. He was hit by divine retribution, the paper added. Muslims, all over the world, strongly denounced this blasphemous act and massive protests were held in all Muslim countries including Pakistan. Text messages and emails that claim that the editor or the cartoonist has been burnt alive have also been circulating since Tuesday, lending support to this report. The paper named the editor as Elliot Back. However, Back is merely a senior in Computer Science at Cornell University, who had published the caricatures on his website. Name of the culture editor of Jyllands Posten, who commissioned the caricatures, is Flemming Rose. Jens Julius is the name of one of the cartoonists that drew the images. There were 12 cartoonists in all, who according to the BBC have gone into hiding. – NEWS DESK

Hmm.. Tulisan Ulil tadi itu sebenarnya bukanlah sesuatu yang baru, kita anggap saja angin berlalu. Pembelaan beliau terhadap Ahmadiyyah itu mungkin saja disebabkan oleh kesamaaan aqidah antara keduanya. Seperti kita ketahui bersama bahwa Ahmadiyah percaya bahwa masih ada nabi setelah Nabi Muhammad, sedangkan Ulil Absor juga berpedapat bahwa doktrin yang mengatakan bahwa Nabi Muhammad adalah Nabi akhir zaman adalah Doktrin yang jelas “janggal” dan sama sekali menggelikan. Ini bisa kita temukan di doktrin ke 3 dari 11 doktrin yang menurut Ulil Abshor kurang perlu didalam islam…. Ke sebelas doktrin itu adalah:

“”Satu, doktrin bahwa Nabi tidak bisa berbuat salah. Menurut saya, doktrin ini sama sekali tak berkaitan dengan inti dan esensi agama Islam, dan karena itu kurang perlu. Jika doktrin ini dihilangkan, Islam tidak menjadi kurang nilainya sebagai sebuah agama. Mengatakan bahwa manusia, apapun namanya (entah Nabi, Rasul, Imam [dalam Syiah], Paus [dalam Katolik]) sebagai “infallible”, tidak bisa berbuat salah, jelas tak masuk akal.

Dua, doktrin bahwa sumber hukum hanya terbatas pada empat: Quran, hadis, ijma’, dan qiyas. Doktrin ini menjadi “hallmark” dari sekte Ahlussunnah waljamaah di mana-mana, sepanjang sejarah. Doktrin ini sebetulnya kurang perlu dan menjadi alat ortodoksi Islam untuk mempertahankan status quo. Sumber hukum jelas tidak bisa dibatasi dalam empat sumber itu. Islam tidak berkurang nilainya sebagai agama jika doktrin ini dihilangkan.

Tiga, doktrin bahwa Nabi Muhammad adalah Nabi akhir zaman. Doktrin ini jelas “janggal” dan sama sekali menggelikan. Setiap agama, dengan caranya masing-masing, memandang dirinya sebagai “pamungkas”, dan nabi atau rasulnya sebagai pamungkas pula. Doktrin ini sama sekali kurang perlu. Apakah yang ditakutkan oleh umat Islam jika setelah Nabi Muhammad ada nabi atau rasul lagi?

Empat, doktrin bahwa sebuah agama mengoreksi atau bahkan menghapuskan agama sebelumnya. Ini adalah yang disebut sebagai doktrin supersesionisme. Doktrin ini tertanam kuat dalam psike dan “mindset” umat Islam. Doktrin ini tak lain adalah cerminan “keangkuhan” sebuah agama. Kehadiran agama tidak terlalu penting dipandang sebagai “negasi” atas agama lain. Agama-agama saling melengkapi satu terhadap yang lain. Kristen bisa belajar dari Islam, Islam bisa belajar dari Yahudi, Yahudi bisa belajar dari tradisi-tradisi timur, dan begitulah seterusnya.

Lima, doktrin bahwa kesalehan ritual lebih unggul ketimbang kesalehan sosial. Orang yang beribadah dengan rajin kerap dipandang lebih “Muslim” ketimbang mereka yang bekerja untuk kemanusiaan, hanya karena mereka tidak beribadah secara rutin. Agama bisa ditempuh dengan banyak cara, antara lain melalui pengabdian kepada kemanusiaan.

Enam, doktrin bahwa mereka yang tidak mengikuti jalan Islam atau agama orang berangkutan adalah “kafir”. Ini mekanisme yang nyaris standar dalam semua agama. Semua agama cenderung memandang bahwa mereka yang ada di luar “lingkaran penyelamatan” adalah domba-domba sesat. Doktrin ini, sekali lagi, cerminan dari arogansi sebuah agama tertentu. Sudah jelas bahwa jalan keselamatan adalah banyak sekali.
Tujuh, berkaitan dengan doktrin sebelumya, ada doktrin lain yang biasanya bekerja dalam lingkaran internal masing-masing agama. Dalam Islam, ada doktrin tentang “sekte yang diselamatkan”, al-firqah al-najiyah. Kelompok yang menyebut dirinya ahlussunnah wal-jamaah memandang dirinya sebagai satu-satunya kelompok dalam Islam yang masuk sorga, sementara kelompok lain sesat. Begitu juga kelompok Syiah memandang dirinya sebagai satu-satunya kelompok yang selamat, selebihnya sesat. Doktrin ini diteruskan oleh MUI dalam bentuk lain melalui fatwa penyesatan. Mendaku bahwa yang selamat hanya lingkaran tertentu adalah sebentuk arogansi.

Delapan, doktrin bahwa jika Kitab Suci mengatakan A, maka seluruh usaha rasional harus berhenti. Kitab Suci adalah firman Tuhan, dan firman Tuhan tak mungkin salah. Oleh karena itu, jika Tuhan sudah mengeluarkan sebuah “dekrit”, maka seluruh perbincangan harus berhenti. Doktrin ini tercermin dalam sebuah “legal maxim” atau kaidah hukum dalam teori hukum Islam yang berbunyi, “la ijtihada fi mahal al-nass”, tidak ada “independent reasoning” dalam hal-hal di mana teks Kitab Suci sudah mempunyai kata putus. Dengan kata lain, ijtihad harus dihentikan jika Kitab Suci sudah memutuskan sesuatu. Dalam diskursus filsafat modern di Amerika, hal ini disebut sebagai “discussion stopper”, agama sebagai penghenti diskusi. Sudah jelas Kitab Suci terkait dengan konteks sejarah tertentu, dan banyak hal yang dikatakan Kitab Suci sudah tak relevan lagi karena konteks-nya berbeda.

Sembilan, doktrin bahwa hukum hanya bisa dibuat oleh “syari’” atau legislator. Yang disebut legislator dalam konteks Islam adalah Tuhan, kemudian secara derivatif juga Nabi Muhammad. Para ulama atau fukaha datang belakangan sebagai penafsir atas hukum itu, dan pelan-pelan juga menempati kedudukan sebagai “pembuat hukum” atau legislator hukum agama. Doktrin ini sangat kuat tertanam dalam Islam. Doktrin ini juga kuat tertanam dalam agama Yahudi. Deklarasi Qur’an sudah sangat jelas dan sangat “kategorikal” , bahwa Adam dan seluruh keturunannya adalah “khalifah” di muka bumi. “Kekhilafahan” di sini, dalam tafsiran saya, mencakup pula kompetensi untuk menciptakan hukum yang mengatur ketertiban di muka bumi ini. Seluruh individu, dalam pandangan Islam yang saya pahami, adalah obyek dan subyek hukum sekaligus. Dengan kata lain, hukum bukan hanya diciptakan oleh Tuhan, tetapi juga oleh manusia. Manusia secara generis adalah syari’, bukan saja Nabi atau ulama/fukaha.

Ini paralel dengan konsep “kewarganegaraan modern” di mana konsep “warga negara” mencakup secara intrinsik kemampun untuk membuat dan men-generate sebuah hukum. Jika ada kelebihan pada ahli hukum atau fukaha yang membuat mereka menjadi spesial kedudukannya adalah karena mereka mempunyai “training” untuk merumuskan sebuah hukum dalam prosedur yang standar. Tetapi sumber hukum bukan saja hanya ada pada Kutab Suci, sabda-sabda Nabi, atau pendapat ulama, tetapi juga manusia secara keseluruhan.

Sepuluh, doktrin bahwa Kitab Suci bersifat seluruhnya supra-historis, karena ia adalah firman Tuhan. Karena Tuhan bersifat supra-sejarah, maka firmanNya pun bersifat supra sejarah pula. Karena itu, Kitab Suci juga supra sejarah. Kebenaran Kitab Suci tak terikat dengan ruang dan waktu. Pandangan ini lagi-lagi adalah pandangan yang “angkuh”. Akan lebih proporsional jika kita mengatakan bahwa ada hal-hal yang supra-sejarah dalam Kitab Suci, tetapi juga ada hal-hal lain yang cukup banyak yang terikat dengan sejarah. Bagian Kitab Suci yang “lengket sejarah” ini bisa tidak relevan sama sekali jika keadaan berubah.

Sebelas, doktrin bahwa Islam bisa menjawab semua masalah. Doktrin ini jelas hanya retorika belaka. Sebab pada kenyataannya tidak demikian. Solusi agama atau Islam, jika pun ada, juga tidak mesti sukses dan berhasil. ‘Wahyu Cinta’ Mirza Ghulam

Panjang lebar Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad menulis biografi Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (MGA) dalam Riwayat Hidup Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. Namun, di buku berjudul asli Sirat Masih Mau’ud as itu, Bashiruddin yang juga khalifatul masih II tak mencantumkan secuil pun fakta kisah cinta ayahnya.

Ada 88 kitab –termasuk Tadzkirah– yang dikarang MGA, yang di antaranya merekam ‘wahyu-wahyu’ yang menjadi saksi kegagalan cinta MGA. Tapi, bagaimana bisa meleset? Bukankah MGA adalah nabi, rasul, almasih, almahdi, krishna, brahman avatar, titisan nabi-nabi sejak Adam, mujaddid, imam zaman, dan lain-lain?

Abdullah Hasan Alhadar, dalam bukunya Ahmadiyah Telanjang Bulat di Panggung Sejarah, menuliskan kisah itu dengan judul ‘Love Affair Mirza’. Dia menyebutnya ‘kisah 1001 malam’ dengan MGA sebagai Majnun-nya. Roman ini, mulanya ditulis oleh penulis India, Sheikh Abubakar Najar, dalam risalah Do You Know About Mirza in Love?

Alkisah, pada suatu hari, MGA yang sudah sakit-sakitan akibat diabetes, vertigo, gangguan penglihatan, dan lain-lain, melihat gadis bernama Muhammadi Begum. Dia putri paman ibu MGA, Mirza Ahmad Beg. Jatuh cinta, MGA yang telah beristri dua, melamar gadis itu. Tapi, betapa terkejutnya nabi MGA, karena lamarannya ditolak.

Buntutnya, MGA mengumumkan ‘wahyu’ yang susul-menyusul. Mulai yang berkonten persuasif, hingga mengancam dan mengultimatum.

Tadzkirah hlm 157 menyatakan: ”Maka Allah menyatakan kepadaku, hendaklah engkau melamar anak perempuannya yang paling besar untukmu, dan katakanlah kepadanya (Ahmad Beg) agar dia menjadikan engkau sebagai menantu lebih dahulu… Dan jika engkau tidak menerima (lamaranku) maka ketahuilah bahwa Allah telah mengabarkan kepadaku bahwa (kalau kamu) menikahkan anakmu dengan laki-laki lain, maka tidak diberkahi dan juga padamu (Ahmad Beg). Dan jika kamu tidak merasa takut maka akan ditimpakan kepadamu bencana-bencana. Dan bencana yang paling akhir adalah kematianmu, kamu akan mati setelah pernikahan itu tiga tahun bahkan kematian itu lebih dekat, dan mati itu akan datang sedang kamu dalam keadaan lalai. Begitu pula suaminya akan mati setelah dua tahun enam bulan….”

Dalam Izalatil Auham hlm 396, Mirza mengumumkan ‘wahyu’: ”Bahwa puteri Ahmad Beg akan menjadi salah seorang istrinya, tetapi keluarganya akan menentangmu dan akan berusaha supaya perkawinanmu tak terlaksana. Tapi jangan khawatir karena Allah akan memenuh janji-Nya dan menyerahkan putri itu padamu, dan tak seorangpun sanggup menghalangi apa yang telah dikehendaki Allah.”

Karena orangtua gadis itu tak terpengaruh, turun lagi wahyu seperti tertulis di Asmani Risalat hlm 40: ”Aku Allah telah menikahkan gadis itu padamu, hai Mirza! Tak ada perubahan atas kata-kata-Ku….”

Di kitab Tukhfah Bagdad hlm 28, MGA juga menulis wahyu: ”Bergembiralah engkau hai Mirza, bahwa Aku menikahkan engkau dan Aku telah kawinkan gadis itu dengan engkau.”

Karena wahyu-wahyu itu tak kesampaian, masyarakat mulai mengolok-olok MGA. MGA mengumumkan lalu ‘wahyu’ yang tercatat di Dafa Elwathawis hlm 228: ”Biarlah mereka yang mengingkari kebenaran akan diperingatkan dan menyesali diri mereka, demikian ramalanku pasti tepat.”

‘Wahyu’ terus turun, tapi Ahmad Beg memutuskan menikahkan putrinya dengan seorang pemuda, Sultan Muhammad. MGA lalu menulis surat berisi permohonan dan peringatan yang dikirimkan kepada sejumlah keluarga gadis itu. Tapi, penolakan tak berkurang.

Bahkan, istri anaknya, juga menolak. Buntutnya, MGA meminta anaknya, Mirza Fadl menceraikan istrinya. Putra lainnya yang tidak menyukai cara-cara ayahnya, dihardik oleh Mirza dan tak diberi hak waris. Peristiwa ini tertulis di Seeratul Mahdi hlm 22.

Pada 7 April 1892, ketika pengikut-pengikut MGA sedang asyik berdoa di masjid agar perkawinan itu batal, di luar masjid terjadi keramaian. Resepsi pernikahan Muhammadi dengan Sultan sedang berlangsung.

Meresponsnya, turun lagi ‘wahyu’ yang tercatat di Tadzkirah hlm 160-161: ”Sesungguhnya dia akan dijadikan seorang janda, dan suaminya serta bapaknya akan mati tiga tahun kemudian setelah hari pernikahan. Kemudian kami akan mengembalikannya kepadamu setelah kematian mereka berdua…”

Waktu terus bergulir. Sembilan tahun sudah usai pernikahan Muhammadi-Sultan, dan tak terjadi apa-apa. Pada 1 Agustus 1901, MGA menulis di harian Al Hakam Vol 5 No 29: ”Sesungguhnya gadis ini belum menjadi istriku, namun demikian jangan kira aku tidak akan mengawininya, sebagaimana aku telah katakan sebelumnya. Dan barangsiapa mencemooh aku, akan mendapat malu. Karena gadis ini masih hidup maka ia akan menemui aku dalam suatu perkawinan yang akan datang.”

Tahun 1908, MGA meninggal. Adapun Muhammadi dan Sultan, tetap hidup. Bahkan, Sultan ikut Perang Dunia I. Dia memang mendapat luka-luka, tapi sembuh dan hidup bahagia bersama istrinya.

Nuruddin, khalifatul masih I, berapologi lewat media kalangan Ahmadiyah, Review of Religion Vol 7 Nomor 6, 8 Juni 1908. ”Kalau sekiranya salah seorang dari anak-anak atau cucu Mirza Ghulam Ahmad mengawini salah seorang putri keturunan Muhammadi Begum, maka yang demikian itulah yang sebenarnya dari ramalan Mirza Ghulam telah terlaksana,” katanya.

Di situs ahmadiyah.org, Fathurrahman Ahmadi Djajasugita dalam tulisannya ‘Tanggapan atas Artikel-artikel’, menyebut kegagalan pernikahan itu karena Ahmad Beg, Sultan, dan Muhammadi adalah penganut Hindu dan sangat membenci Islam.

Hasan Bin Mahmud Audah, mantan direktur umum seksi bahasa Arab Jemaat Ahmadiyah Pusat London, dalam bukunya, Ahmadiyyah; Kepecayaan-kepercayaan dan Pengalaman-pengalaman menulis sedikit soal kisah ini. Dia menyatakan saat terpikat pada Muhammadi, usia MGA 60 tahun.

”Di antara perkara yang mesti seseorang berhenti dalam pengamatannya terhadap kehidupan Mirza Ghulam adalah bersikerasnya mengawini gadis berumur 17 tahun,” kata Audah yang telah keluar dari Ahmadiyah, dan melakukan berbagai upaya mengajak warga Ahmadiyah kembali kepada Islam.

Soal Muhammadi Begum, dia menyatakan, ”[Muhammadi Begum] seorang wanita Muslimah dari kalangan famili yang tidak membenarkan kenabian Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.” Keluarga MGA yang juga tidak beriman pada kenabiannya adalah anak-anaknya sendiri, yaitu Mirza Sultan dan Mirza Fadl.

”Masalah ini (kisah MGA-Muhammadi) adalah yang jarang dibicarakan orang-orang Ahmadi,” kata mantan muballigh Ahmadiyah dan lama menetap di Qadian serta menikah dengan anak tokoh Ahmadiyah di sana.

Okay so we’ve all heard the stories of Muslims worldwide protesting the Prophet Muhammad cartoons published in a Danish newspaper. They say that we [the Muslims] need to respect the freedom of expression and the freedom of speech of others. and that we… well the debate continues..
But guess we Muslims wernt the only ones who get pissed of when the Prophets are shown in an inappropriate manner. There are christians out there too who would also stand up.

A chastened and chagrined Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn, the top churchman in this largely conservative and overwhelmingly Catholic country, has ordered the offending artwork, by sculptor Alfred Hrdlicka, removed.

But the controversy rages on, and some have likened it to the furor triggered by the Prophet Muhammad cartoons.

Exhibition curator Michael Kaufmann says he’s even seen Web postings from extremists “who have threatened to come to Vienna and blow up its museums with Molotov cocktails.”

Fitna: The film is about how the west fears the world

Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) — – Compared to all the noise that was made before the self-billed anti-Islam film ‘Fitna’ produced by Geert Wilders, a Dutch right wing politician, the movie has not exactly lit the world on fire like its previous anti-Islamic media ancestors. At least not as yet. The video release on the web takes various violent acts committed by Muslim extremists all over the world and points to the danger of Islam generating more of this in the future.

Somewhere it also becomes a rallying slogan against Muslims. It has been condemned by all world leaders including the UN Secy-General but it will make Wilders better known also for a crude piece of propaganda. The opening contains a cartoon from the Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard showing the Islamic Prophet with a bomb on his head, the cartoon which has caused so much acrimony in the world.

Geert Wilders, an MP, is part of the growing number of anti-Islamics in Europe who are also rooted in mainstream politics. A section of Danish politicians have been very active in this anti-Islam policy. Theo van Gough and Ayan Hirsi Ali, a Somalian refugee and MP, produced another film on Islam which led to the killing of Theo and serious problems for Ayan. She later had more problems with her migration process when it transpired she had lied and thus lost her parliamentary seat and even left the country to go to the US.

All are of course leading a police protected life but no question that all of them do represent an opinion bloc in their country in particular and Europe in general. The fact that Geert called it not against Muslims but Islam is significant because it argues that the problems of extremism are rooted in Islam itself and not a few ‘bad Muslims’. His prescription, shut out the Muslims from Europe which means a much tougher anti-migration law. Much of the problem seems to be rooted there.

The same week the film was launched the House of Lords committee released a report on migration saying that the advantages of migration has been minimal to natural born Britons. It adds on that there is higher competition on low-end workers level and basically calls an end to migration from non-EU countries. It has been welcomed by anti migration groups while those fighting for the rights of migrants have opposed its findings in an ongoing debate.

A long history of conflict between Arabs and Europeans

Geography and history have both played a role in increased conflict as has the new economic environment as a result of competition from emerging economies. The conflict between the religions -Judaism, Christianity and Islam-is ancient and yet more than differences there are many similarities amongst them. All originated in the Middle East and all the three religions are dominated by cultural expressions based on the social contest at various times in history in their originating areas and other places and each claim to be the sole beholder of the truth.

One major difference is that Judaism was battered in its contest with the conquering Romans and subsequently, when Christianity emerged as an independent entity, there was another conflict and the Jews lost their physical location. Christianity’s first serious rival for empire was Islam and the prize was of course first Jerusalem, everyone’s holy land and then Europe. In effect, it does mean a contest between two entities with territorial ambitions in the name of the faith. To Europe there is some confusion between Arab imperialism and Islamic religion.

While Jews were thrown out of Jerusalem and became a minor factor in history for many centuries European and Turko-Arab powers fought it out for control of Europe for centuries too. Part of this is because Europe lies close to North Africa, the frontier land of Arabian Islam and now the principal supplier of legal and illegal migrants to Europe. Hence the contemporary historical identities have fused to become one leading to Europe’s obsession with Muslims when they actually mean Arabs in most cases. Thus Arab nationalism is also not recognized either.

People of most North African countries whether Morocco or Alegria head for European shores. The terrorists who have plagued Europe are mostly from the same zone. In the US most militants are Saudi Arabian, Egyptian, Pakistani etc, a wider variety of ethnicities are seen because it is not geographically or historically linked to imperial competitions of earlier times. Its construction of enmity with Islam is more recent and linked to their recent imperial projects.

Multiple migrations, internal conflicts and radicalism

Migration has come to mean several things now and going from one place to another is no longer simple because the number of migrants has increased, skill levels are uneven and the migrants bring their political baggage with them. A good example is Saudi Arabia which has high immigration though temporary, low democracy and an economy that is basically oil based. It had drawn in migrant workers from many parts of the world including the west though most are temporary but the militancy within hasn’t come from them. The home of many al-Qaeda leaders, it’s their own population that fights with its power source, the monarchy which is considered corrupt and one of the most backward looking in the world. Yet it has enjoyed the friendship of the US because of oil, its willingness to oppose militant anti-Israeli regimes and for allowing its facilities to be used against any anti-US forces in the Middle East. So although Saudi Arabia is also anti-Israeli, it’s also US’s best friend in the Middle East.

It is in Egypt, which has a long much richer cultural tradition as well as a social resistance movement that has often fomented a broader anti-imperial radicalism, something Saudis have not found palatable. Whether it’s the legacy of the Pyramidal civilization or Al-Azhar University or the leftist trends of the Brotherhood, Egypt’s politics is far wider and therefore able to influence the politics of other regions within the Arab world. Interestingly, once a leader of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) because it was under its modern founder Gamal Abdul Nasser, and it was an anti-colonial state, the fight with Israel and its loss of land has forced it to go closer to the US and emerge as a reluctant friend of Israel. The result has been another ally for the US in the region. Jordan has been always loyal, so a lot of friends for the US there.

Radicalism and nationalism

Yet three of the top al-Qaeda leaders have come from these three countries. They are Osama bin-Laden (SA), Zawahiri (Egypt) and the late Zarqawi (Jordon) who turned the Iraq war into a US nightmare. Its governments are very friendly with the US but the people are not.

The problem that is somewhat invisible to many leaders and analysts is that the question of nationalism in various descriptions is greatly responsible for the global unrest. Arab nationalism is probably least understood because the people are trying to establish their identity while their leaders are trying to chart a very different course within the boiling pot of international politics and oil security. Depressed oil prices have contributed the most in the last century to western prosperity but the oil that has come from the Middle East made only a small number of people better off.

The ancient Arab-Jewish conflict has also played a part. The greatest perpetrators of crime against Jews were Christian Europe but they made a long-term peace deal with the Jews, essentially a non-European race after WW ll. This was done to ensure control over the area, at least the largest factor behind that being oil access. Israelis have therefore been co-opted into becoming a naturalized European state who can then participate in the fights, both ancient and modern in the area. Israel internally is far more democratic than any of the Arab states and while it treats Palestinians like non-humans, the Arab states often does the same to its own people.

Oil, Islam and terrorism

Islam and Muslim have therefore become multiplied into a variety of threats to Europe which is also the West’s ally. The control over oil has become tenacious and even the military might of the US can no longer guarantee safety of availability and more importantly, price. This makes the ME, its states and people, to have become part of the contest. The Iraq war has shown that the age of unilateralism is ending and the consequences of actions that were simplified as short-term before is no longer so.

By invading Afghanistan, the Soviet Union, produced its own downfall and also shaped a new enemy for the West, the armed Muslim. As a multi-national entity with a perception of a long history of wrongs at Christian hands going back to the loss of the ‘Empire’ it has suffered a series of genuine injuries at western hands, the largest of them being, the Israel- Palestine question which is a constant source of anger even for people who are Muslims only in name. The defeat of Soviet Union not only created a sense of the potential of violence but also introduced politically militant Muslims to the huge reserve of angry belligerent young people ready to fight for a cause. Subsequent NATO actions in Iraq and Afghanistan have heightened this sense for them.

Fewer Europeans and many Arabs scare the West

The economic supremacy of the US and Europe is under serious threat. Emerging economies have leap-frogged to the centre stage and are consuming and producing more oil. More oil is in the hand of the old enemy, Soviet Russia who as Europe’s principal energy supplier now has enormous clout and is comfortably contesting Europe in the Middle East. And in this, China has emerged as new ‘oil for politics’ player allowing Sudan to do what it wants in lieu for oil. Maybe it learnt the tricks from the US.

The population rise of the Arabian/Islamic world is where much of the concern is also attached because with a large population growth rate, the Afro-Arab state is bursting with people and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to predict that with declining economies and climate change affecting the poorer world and the richer world relatively shielded, the population is headed towards Europe. Its wealth itself is now a cause of its problem. And while the Africans are dispersed by their tribalism, the Arab Muslims can consider themselves a tribe of sorts and within them the militants certainly do.

Britain and the rest of the Europe will probably adopt separate strategies to counter the migration crisis. Britain has already started to revamp its economies and knows it may be a little late in the day to stop the flow from most of the Commonwealth countries. It will try to come to a middle point.

UK’s PM Gordon Brown has said after publication of a report that stated immigration has not benefited them that “immigration is good for the UK” rejecting suggestions that an annual limit is needed. He said that the concerns raised are already being tackled by a new points-based system that will only allow highly skilled workers into the UK, adding that migration had added £6bn to the economy which is also a “substantial income”.

Economies and emerging giants cause anxiety

As UK’s colonialism was also more collaborative in nature, it saw the educated elite feel more at home within the Anglo world. The result has been a much more developed elite class amongst the Commonwealth Asian population including some of its richest and better educated members. India is also proving to be better economic managers as the western economy has displayed its lack of ability to adjust to globalization. Competition, shrinking capital markets, collapsing and greedy banks addicted to high profit and risk, impoverished borrowers and lenders all signal long term economic weakness. At least the economic sun is not at noon. Growth without end is no longer an endless possibility and it’s this fear that is fuelling a paranoia which has ancient roots.

If western economies can’t have unlimited growth and squeeze, falling into a sort of permanent recession and large-scale downsizing takes place, can it accommodate more migrants? Key to the West is access to oil and its low price volatility but an artificially robust system or lack of modern economic management is now beginning to show especially in the US. Prosperity is suddenly not a guarantee and the large number of working class people is facing a shutdown in the industrial sector and have to compete with harder working migrants as reports suggest. The North American economy is now more tied to China than even Canada and nothing seems to stem the tide of goods flowing from a determined East which doesn’t need to cross the borders to conquer the West.

Fitna is therefore a reflection generated by the problems of poverty both in the Islamic and the western world. More than a film, it is about a civilization at bay built on looting of other economies and unable to develop a system of continuing it for ever. It appears other looters have arrived and continental Europe will have a hard time making it. Films like Fitna should be read as expressions of anxiety of the somewhat helpless people unable to cope with a changing world.

Some 9 million Muslims live in Russia – research

Moscow, April 22, Interfax – 6 per cent or about 8,7 million Russians consider themselves the followers of Islam, sociologists from the All-Russia Public Opinion Research Center stated in compliance with the polls conducted among 1600 people in 153 cities and towns of 46 country’s regions, districts and republics.

This number significantly differs from the one cited by some Russian Muslim leaders who claim that minimum 20 million Muslims reside in Russia.

The highest percent of Muslims, about 17 per cent, live in the Povolzhye Region. Russia’s South holds the second place with it 9 per cent of Muslims. Central Russia and the Far East have about 1 per cent of Muslim population.

73 per cent of Russians call themselves Orthodox.

According to the research, followers of other religious traditions total to less than 1 per cent in Russia.

Amnesty unveils shock ‘waterboarding’ film

April 22, 2008 An American expert in torture techniques has denounced his government for allowing “waterboarding” to be practised against terror suspects, just as a graphic advertisement showing the brutal reality of the technique is unveiled to British cinema-goers. Malcolm Nance, who trained hundreds of US servicemen and women to resist interrogation by putting them through “waterboarding” exercises, demanded an immediate end to the practice by all US personnel. He said: “They seem to think it is worth throwing the honour of 220 years of American decency in war out of the window. Waterboarding is out-and-out torture, and I’m deeply ashamed President Bush has authorised its use and dragged the US’s reputation into the mud.” Mr Bush faced criticism recently when he vetoed a Bill that would have outlawed such methods of “enhanced interrogation” – the White House refuses to describe it as torture. Mr Nance said: “You have a purpose-built table with straps in a pattern so that people can be strapped and unstrapped quickly. The head is strapped down in such a way so they cannot resist the water. The head is elevated so the water goes down the oesophagus. Amnesty International’s new anti-waterboarding advert “The water is poured very carefully over the nose – you keep a constant pour. You are drowning in water but you don’t have the ability to hold your breath. You feel the water going in, you understand that water is filling your lungs.” Mr Nance, who is now an independent consultant, said the technique was also futile, as well as barbaric, as the prisoner would say anything to survive – regardless of its truth. Amnesty International is leading the campaign to persuade the US to abandon the practice – a form of torture used as long ago as the Spanish Inquisition – and is stepping up its efforts with the release of a graphic and disturbing advertisement. The broadcast begins with images of glistening clear liquid, suggesting it could be promoting a new brand of vodka or gin. But the camera pulls back to show water is being poured over the face of a desperate man strapped to a table. Kate Allen, the UK director of Amnesty International, said: “Our film shows you what the CIA doesn’t want you to see – the disgusting reality of half-drowning a person. “For a few seconds, our film-makers did it for real. Even for those few seconds, it’s horrifying to watch. Professor Yoo Should Be Dismissed by Boalt and Prosecuted for War Crimes

War crimes start at the top. The torture and deaths at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo; the humiliation of Iraqi and Afghani detainees in the field; extraordinary rendition; the indiscriminate killing by rifles and cluster bombs; these are becoming the new norms of war for which the leaders in the United States are responsible. And as with the war crimes of the past, the spilling of blood began with the spilling of ink. The most culpable are not the young foot soldiers in fatigues holding a naked prisoner with a dog leash; they are the men and women in suits who craft the policies.

John Yoo is one of those men in suits, and it is disgraceful that he is paid by the people of California to shape the law and young minds at one of our most distinguished law schools. As an organization, the National Lawyers Guild released a press release in April stating that Yoo ought to be tried as a war criminal and dismissed by the University of California Berkeley — Boalt Hall, where he is currently a law professor.

Academic freedom is a serious issue and must be addressed in this debate. We’ve all seen how universities have used tenure and other means to fire and at least attempt to silence leftist academics. But just because University officials have a bad track record when it comes to hiring, firing and promoting professors, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t push them to do the right thing when the circumstances call for it. In this case, we should acknowledge that the University ought to provide due process, despite the fact that victims of Yoo’s legal framework lacked such protection. However, we should urge University officials to move forward with the normal proceedings for dismissing a professor, taking into consideration the seriousness of the harm caused and the power Yoo had in crafting his memoranda.

According to Dean Christopher Edley, neither the harm caused nor the power and responsibility a professor wields constitute the test for taking action against Yoo. As Edley wrote on the Boalt website: “As a legal matter, the test here is the relevant excerpt from the ‘General University Policy Regarding Academic Appointees’, adopted for the 10-campus University of California by both the system-wide Academic Senate and the Board of Regents: Types of unacceptable conduct: . . . Commission of a criminal act which has led to conviction in a court of law and which clearly demonstrates unfitness to continue as a member of the faculty.”

In this case Yoo clearly violated the second part of the standard put forth by Edley, but he has yet to be convicted of a crime by any court of law. It shouldn’t matter. The same Personnel Manual Edley sites states that “Other types of serious misconduct, not specifically enumerated herein, may nonetheless be the basis for disciplinary action …” It also specifically states as a reason for discipline: “Serious violation of University policies governing the professional conduct of faculty, including but not limited to policies applying to research, outside professional activities, conflicts of commitment, clinical practices, violence in the workplace, and whistleblower protections.”

There are a lot of facts for Boalt Hall to consider in the course of a fair hearing. His memoranda and other evidence have been presented in the public domain, and Yoo has not distanced himself from any of it. Hopefully a court of law will eventually come to the conclusion that he (and Rumsfeld, Gonzalez, Bush, Cheney, et.al.) is guilty of a crime, but it isn’t clear that the right-leaning justice system in this country will take action without a great deal of pressure, if at all. Regardless, the law is pretty clear about how such prisoners should be treated. More importantly, the fact that Yoo ignored important and universal moral principles in the substance of his memoranda, and the very decision to submit his memoranda knowing what the consequences would be, is shocking. If the University of California discovered that a UCSF medical professor had knowingly contributed to illegal research that harmed human subjects, would they allow her to continue teaching? I sincerely hope not, and depending on the facts, I would urge them to take some sort of action, even if this hypothetical professor had yet to be prosecuted or convicted of any crime.

Boalt ought to also consider the power and responsibility Yoo had when he wrote his memoranda. He wasn’t writing an opinion for a small business or county government. He was writing for the most powerful military and most powerful regime on the planet as they engaged in a global war; and he was writing about prisoners who were already captured and fully secured.

The other very live question that lawyers and legal scholars are asking is whether attorneys should face criminal consequences for their purely professional conduct. But this presumes that the issue is merely one of bad or faulty legal advice or that the act is one that falls fully within Yoo’s professional conduct. In this case the analogy is more like a lawyer advising his client that committing assault is perfectly legal, where assaulting someone is both illegal and immoral, and the attorney is really just trying to push the limits of the law to provide cover for his client’s beating up someone.

There is precedent for criminal liability against attorneys in circumstances not unlike the Yoo case. Philippe Sands, among others, has recently revisited the Nuremberg case of United States v. Altstoetter in a scathing two-part story in Vanity Fair called “The Green Light.” Sands writes that the case “had been prosecuted by the Allies to establish the principle that lawyers and judges in the Nazi regime bore a particular responsibility for the regime’s crimes.” The principal defendant in that case was imprisoned for five years, primarily for performing as an attorney — giving legal advice (or more accurately legal cover) for the “disappearing” of political opponents of the Nazi regime.

John Yoo created a legal framework that would allow torture; and just like the lawyerly work that led to convictions in Altstoetter, it wasn’t done as a purely academic or philosophical exercise. He created this framework to enable torturers; to give cover and help set in motion policies that would directly lead to the pain, suffering and death of prisoners held by the United States against accepted international law. This is why Yoo ought to be dismissed by Boalt, disbarred, and prosecuted for war crimes.

Apr 22, 2008 Sixty years ago, more than 700,000 Palestinians were forced from their homes, not knowing where they were going, not knowing when they would return. This displacement of over half of the indigenous inhabitants of Palestine created the largest and oldest refugee population today and is the root of the Israel-Palestinian conflict. This tragedy is called Al Nakba in Arabic. We are often told the Palestinians fled of their own accord, but British and Israeli archives opened in the late 1970s tell a different story. The indigenous Arabs – Muslim, Christian, secular – were systematically driven out of areas desired for a new Jewish state. Jews fleeing anti-Semitism in Europe started migrating to Palestine in the mid-19th century. The United Nations, attempting to quell conflicts between indigenous inhabitants and the new immigrants, proposed dividing the area. Jewish immigrants accepted it, but the Arab side rejected it as unjust as it gave 55 percent of the land to the new immigrants while they were only one-third of the population and owned only 7 percent of the land at the time. Negotiators and parties of the conflict are so anxious to alleviate the immediate suffering of both Israelis and Palestinians that the refugee issue is not sufficiently addressed. The Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory, rocket fire into Israel, illegal settlement growth, checkpoints, suicide bombers, the crippled Palestinian economy, The Wall, and the lack of adequate access to medicine, food and clean water require attention, but are only outgrowths of the root problem – the ethnic cleansing of Palestine. U.N. mediator Count Folke Bernadotte stated in 1948: “No settlement can be just and complete if recognition is not accorded to the right of the Arab refugee to return to the home from which he has been dislodged by the hazards and strategy of the armed conflict between Arabs and Jews in Palestine. The majority of these refugees have come from the territory which, under the [U.N. General] Assembly [partition] resolution of 29 November, was to be included in the Jewish State. The exodus of Palestinian Arabs resulted from panic created by fighting in their communities, by rumors concerning real or alleged acts of terrorism, or expulsion. It would be an offence against the principles of elemental justice if these innocent victims of the conflict were denied the right of return to their homes while Jewish immigrants flow into Palestine, and, indeed, at least offer the threat of permanent replacement of the Arab refugees who have been rooted in the land for centuries.” Elephant in room is ignored People in the region hold no hope for the newly initiated peace talks of the Bush administration.
