| From those same lovable folks who brought you the crimes and abuses of COINTELPRO comes the following brochure, printed at taxpayer expense by the FBI and intended to be issued to law enforcement, requesting that the Joint Terrorism Task Force be called in the event suspicious behavior is witnessed. And what is “suspicious behavior”? Defending the Constitution!
Read it yourself on the inside page of the brochure. Defending the Constitution is cause to label you a terrorist suspect. Even referring to it is grounds for suspicion that you are a terrorist, with all the harassment that this suspicion implies! |

04/10/07 “Consortium News” — – - The media often report overseas developments, but don’t always explore their underlying causes, which, in many cases, conveniently lets the U.S. government off the hook. The recent internecine violence in Somalia provides a classic example. The U.S. media have focused to date almost exclusively on the rising Islamist movement in Somalia and U.S. “covert” assistance to the Ethiopian invasion that supported Somalia’s transitional government against the stronger Islamists. The media should be focusing on one of the major causes of the Somali mess: U.S. government meddling.

Friday 17th October, 2008 The Taliban’s strength in Afghanistan has increased by up to 20-30 percent over the past year, according to Major General Jeffrey Schlosser, a top general in-charge of US ground troops in Afghanistan. In a CBS TV interview to be telecast this Sunday, he said evidence of the increase in numbers was apparent on a base in eastern Afghanistan, near the Pakistan border, which has been hit with rockets and mortars at least 30 times since March, when a major battle took place. He said the enemy had come much closer to his men in the battle, engaging troops in a firefight near their base. General Schlosser said his soldiers had never been this close to their enemy in Afghanistan before. After at least 12 enemy fighters were killed in the skirmish, soldiers found a camera left behind by the enemy that contained images of at least 50 heavily armed enemy fighters, showing details of their training and actual attacks. |

The attitude of the Taliban with regard to ‘al Qaeda’ is indicative of the extent of influence ‘al Qaeda’ as an organisation really has in Central Asia – about zilch.
Western propagandists would like us to think that ‘al Qaeda’ is an extensive, well-organised internationalist Jihad movement with branches every place where there are American and allied forces. The reality is that ‘al Qaeda’ exists these days largely as a figment of Western propagandist’s somewhat vivid imagination and the words ‘al Qaeda’ are basically used as a convenient catchall label to define to the Western public who the ‘enemy’ is as it relates to the equally overused and inappropriately titled ‘Global War on Terror’. In nearly all cases they are, in fact, simply fighters who are resisting US domination in their respective countries. Among these fighters are those who have come from other countries to help those they consider to be their ‘brothers’ defend their country despite the fact it is not their own country. It is this air of internationalism among young Muslims wanting to help other Muslims in the fight against oppression and persecution and this notion of pan Islamic camaraderie that has given rise to the myth of ‘al Qaeda’ being the overarching enemy. They have become the perpetual enemy. There is barely any discussion in the West about any of today’s trouble spots around the globe where ‘al Qaeda’ doesn’t get a mention.

In provinces just south of Kabul, the insurgents have a shadow government that polices roads and runs courts. October 15, 2008 Porak, Afghanistan – After a gang of thieves had continually terrorized an Afghan neighborhood near here months ago, locals decided they’d had enough. “We complained several times to the government and even showed them where the thieves lived,” says Ahmad, who goes by one name. But the bandits continued to operate freely. So the villagers turned to the Taliban. |

Experience in Indochina and Central America suggests that CIA, the principal paymaster for U.S.-backed Afghan warlords, may be more deeply involved in the drug trade than we yet know. October 16, 2008 Afghanistan is in a `downward spiral,’ the Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen, admitted last week, giving the most negative view of that conflict heard in Washington. Military men are programmed to always be optimistic, so Admiral Mullen’s grim words were particularly noteworthy. They also flatly contradicted the rosy claims of `progress’ in Afghanistan made by the Bush administration and its increasingly dispirited allies in Canada, France, Germany, Italy and other NATO nations that were dragooned into this deeply unpopular war. |

More and more military and civilian leaders are voicing pessimism when it comes to the NATO mission in Afghanistan. As the fight continues, ideas for how to break through the ongoing stalemate are few. Some are beginning to think that victory — for either side — is impossible. Read the rest of this entry » |

October 16, 2008 While the eyes of the western world have been fixed on the global financial crisis, the military campaign that launched the war on terror has been spinning out of control. Seven years after the US and Britain began their onslaught on Afghanistan to oust the Taliban and capture Osama bin Laden, the Taliban surround the capital, al-Qaida is flourishing in Pakistan and the war’s sponsors have publicly fallen out about whether it has already been lost. |

Posted October 16, 2008 Last Updated 8/16 9:25 PM EST NATO forces launched an air strike in Nad Ali District, Helmand Province early this afternoon. According to local officials, the attack killed between 25 and 30 civilians. Local residents took some of the bodies to Lashkar Gah to complain to the governor about the killings. NATO said it was “aware of an incident,” but declined to confirm any civilian casualties as of yet. It is unclear which NATO member launched the air strike, but during reported protests in Lashkar Gah this afternoon angry locals condemned the Afghan government and British forces. District Chief Mahboob Khan said the anger was even more widespread however, and while they are “busy burying their family members now … tomorrow, they will demand to know why their houses were targeted.” Provincial Police Chief Assadullah Sherzad confirmed the air strike, but was unable to vouch for the number killed. Helmand has been the source of considerable fighting over the past few days, with provincial capital Lashkar Gah coming under significant Taliban attacks twice recently. The province is the center of Britain’s military presence in Afghanistan, and Afghan President Hamid Karzai has blamed British “interference” for surging violence in the province. If confirmed, this would be the largest number of Afghan civilians killed in a single NATO attack since late August’s infamous Herat strike, in which US forces killed at least 90 civilians in an attack based on faulty intelligence.

Ramblings and Realities……
Islamophobia has become the new Cold War of the 21st century.
When all else fails, blame the Muslims…. that’s the name of the new ‘game’. When issues are not the case, point a finger, accuse the opponent of ‘being one of them’. It worked in the 50’s when the word ‘communist’ was the worst accusation possible, why not play by those same rules?
We are living in different times today. We are able to see beyond the finger pointing today. Today the rules are slightly different …. in the 50’s, the fingers were pointed at individuals or organisations, today they are pointed at entire nations. Read the rest of this entry »
