| US offers pirates $7m bribe for Iran ship entry
Fri, 12 Sep 2008 15:25:56 GMT |
|
The US has offered USD 7m to the pirates, who hijacked an Iranian ship in the Gulf of Aden, to receive entry permission and search the vessel.
The hijackers have yet to respond to the USD 7m offer, but a source close to the pirates told Press TV that the pirates are likely to accept the bribe and allow the Americans onboard the vessel.
The US the naval fleet off the Somali coast alleges that The Iran Diyanat was carrying ‘uranium and chemical weapons’.
Iran’s shipping company, however, has declared that the Iranian bulk carrier hired by a German company had no weapons or uranium on board and was carrying 42,500 tons of minerals and industrial products.
Ibrahim Mohammad-Nabi, Deputy CEO of Iran’s shipping company also confirmed that no Russian or Syrian nationals were aboard the vessel, rejecting claims made by another Puntland minister that an international crew operates the ship.
Pirates have stepped up attacks on merchant vessels in the Gulf of Aden, as Somalia’s current transitional government has failed to shackle the pirates in the key commercial shipping lane.

The Indian Army has been shocked by the arrest of a senior Military Intelligence officer on suspicion of involvement in a bomb attack by Hindu extremists in western India in September.
Colonel Srikant Prasad Purohit is the first serving officer in India’s Army — seen as a bastion of secularism since the country’s independence in 1947 — to be arrested on terrorism charges.
His detention is prompting calls for a ban on Hindu nationalist groups accused of stirring political violence, including recent attacks on Christians in eastern India, before national elections next year.

We are being lied to about the Bombay attacks.
“Notice the red cord on his right wrist.
“Tying a red thread or cord around the wrist is a Hindu practice and it is unlikely a Muslim, especially one politicized enough to carry out an attack such as this, would observe it.” - Some pictures of the terrorists

Mumbai terrorists had been staying at the Jewish Centre (Nariman House) in a guest house for 2 weeks prior to the attacks

Two of the hostages killed were identified as Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife, Rivka, the couple who ran the centre, said a spokesman for the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. Their 18-month-old son had been one of three people rescued from the centre on Thursday.
In a telephone interview with CBC News from outside the centre, freelance journalist Arun Asthhana said there are reports that some of the militants had stayed at a guest house there for up to 15 days before the attacks.
“They had a huge mass of ammunition, arms and food there,” Asthhana said.

Big Lies: Terrorists ‘wanted an Indian 9/11’
By: Agencies on: 30.11.2008 [05:55 ]
- Black Cat commandoes say gunmen were skilled combatants
MUMBAI: The gunmen who attacked Mumbai killing at least 195 people wanted to go down in history for an Indian 9/11, and were also inspired by the bombing of the Marriott hotel in Islamabad, media reports said.
They had planned every detail, knew the layout of the Taj Mahal and Trident Oberoi hotels they targeted, had commando-style training and even had snacks such as dry fruit stuffed in their backpacks. The capture of one of the militants, a clean-shaven, fluent English-speaking 21-year-old, has highlighted the ambitious plans of the group. “The entire idea was to replicate the JW Marriott at the Taj,” Times Now television reported, quoting a defence official present at the interrogation of Azam Amir Kasav. He was referring to one of Pakistan’s worst bomb attacks, when a lorry packed with explosives all but destroyed the hotel in Islamabad and killed at least 55 people in September. India uncovers Hindu terror group that carried out bombings blamed on Islamists
At least 10 people, including monk and army officer, held
By Andrew Buncombe in Delhi
Sunday, 23 November 2008
India is in something of a state of shock after learning from official sources that its first Hindu terror cell may have carried out a series of deadly bombings that were initially blamed on militant Muslims. The revelation is forcing the country to consider some difficult questions.
At least 10 people have been arrested in connection with several bomb blasts in the Muslim-dominated town of Malegaon in the western state of Maharashtra in September, which left six people dead. But reports suggest that police believe the cell may also have carried out a number of previous attacks, including last year’s notorious bombing of a cross-border train en route to Pakistan, which killed 68 people. Among the alleged members of the cell are a serving army officer and a Hindu monk. Read the rest of this entry »

New York Times Misleads on Taliban Role in Opium Trade

The New York Times reported this week that the Taliban have cut back on poppy cultivation and is stockpiling opium, grossly overstating the group’s role in the Afghanistan drug trade.
“Afghanistan has produced so much opium in recent years,” the Times reported Thursday, “that the Taliban are cutting poppy cultivation and stockpiling raw opium in an effort to support prices and preserve a major source of financing for the insurgency, Antonio Maria Costa, the executive director of the United Nations drug office, says.” Read the rest of this entry » |

Preman Berkedok Agamawan
Read the rest of this entry »

Guantanamo Detainee Who Was Tortured Faces New War Crimes Charges
By Jason Leopold
The Public Record
Wednesday, November 19, 2008
A Guantanamo Bay detainee who was tortured by military interrogators is again being charged with war crimes by Pentagon prosecutors, six months after those charges were dropped because of the coercive techniques used to obtain information were likely to be revealed at his trial.
Mohammed al-Al-Qahtani, the alleged “20th hijacker”, is believed to be one of the first detainees subjected to harsh questioning after the Justice Department issued a legal opinion in August 2002 permitting U.S. government interrogators to sidestep the Geneva Convention and use cruel and humiliating techniques, from forced nudity to stress positions to waterboarding, to extract information.
Last February, the Pentagon announced its intention to pursue the death penalty against al-Qahtani and five other men for their alleged involvement in the 9/11 attacks.

Taliban Regains Power, Influence in Afghanistan
Sets Up Courts, Local Governments in Southern Regions
YOCHI J. DREAZEN and SIOBHAN GORMAN

November 19, 2008
WASHINGTON — The Taliban are setting up courts and other local-government institutions across southern Afghanistan, challenging U.S. efforts to pacify the country and bolster the authority of the central government in Kabul.
Senior American military officials said the Taliban run roughly two dozen law courts in southern Afghanistan, one of the armed Islamist group’s main strongholds. Drawing on a fundamentalist interpretation of Islamic law, the courts work to resolve conflicts over property, grazing rights and inheritances, the officials said.
The Taliban have also appointed unofficial governors and mayors to exercise day-to-day control over remote areas, amounting to a parallel government independent of Kabul, according to the U.S. officials.
