By Janine Roberts Much has been made of Hamas’ reported failure to honour last year’s truce. But, an extraordinary correspondence between Jewish residents of the much-rocketed town of Sderot, nearby kibbutz, and the Palestinians living within sight in the Gaza strip paints a very different picture of that truce from that repeatedly given by the Israeli government. Barrack Obama was taken to Sderot last year to show him the effects of rocketing. He remarked on how Israeli towns looked like American from the air and offered his full support to the town’s citizens, promising to invite its representatives to the White House soon after taking office. At the time in mid-July Sderot was safe to visit. There had been no casualties from rockets since the ceasefire started 4 weeks earlier.

Seeing as how we currently find ourselves hurtling along this downhill run towards new history – the countdown to the day America has itself a president named Obama can be measured in hours instead of days or weeks now – it seems an appropriate moment to pause and reflect on a bit of older history we’ve already passed through. I’m not talking about any kind of ancient history, mind you. For the purposes of this reflection, we need only take a small leap backwards in time, just six short years ago.

In an editorial released ahead of publication next Saturday, the British health journal said Israel, by hitting civilians and wrecking medical infrastructure, had carried out attacks that were “unjustified and disproportional.” “We find it hard to believe that an otherwise internationally respected, democratic nation can sanction such large and indiscriminate human atrocities in a territory already under land and sea blockade,” The Lancet said. “The collective punishment of Gazans is placing horrific and immediate burdens of injury and trauma on innocent civilians. These actions contravene the fourth Geneva convention.” The editorial also blasted “national medical associations and professional bodies worldwide,” accusing them of keeping silent as the destruction unfolded. “Their leaders, through their inaction, are complicit in a preventable tragedy that may have long-lasting public-health consequences not only for Gaza for also for the entire region,” it said. More than 1,060 Palestinians have been killed, and at least 4,700 injured, since Israel launched its war on Gaza dubbed “Operation Cast Lead” on December 27. I am trying very hard to direct my vitriol against the Israeli government. But after viewing this video, I have no choice but to condemn every Jewish American who supports the current atrocities.

The mask is off: These monsters want genocide. They know full well that it was Israel, not Hamas, which broke the ceasefire. They do not care. Racial and religious hatred has consumed the souls of these people.

They have been driven insane by the realization that the Palestinians are the rightful owners of that land. They will never admit this plain fact, but they all know it in their hearts. Hence the bloodlust. Their mania is founded on a secret guilt. They must scream for blood, louder and louder, in order to drown out the small, persistent voice that says: “You know full well that you’re in the wrong.”

Update: Anti-Israel demonstrators in Canada may now face legal sanction. The Canada-Israel committee, which has no complaint about the Jews in the above video who explicitly call for genocide, now wants to criminalize anti-Israel “hate speech” in Canada.

Some of the examples they cite are genuinely vile. Yet even the worst of that lot is far less vile than was the recent piece by a prominent Jewish historian — published in the New York Times — calling for for the use of nuclear weapons to wipe out 70 million Iranians.

Apparently, some Jews feel that they have the unique privilege of being allowed to use exterminationist speech. Everyone else is forbidden to speak freely. Jews are holy; Jews may do what others may not.

Gerald Kaufman, a governing Labour Party British Member of Parliament, declared Thursday that Israel was taking advantage of the guilt many non-Jews feel over the Holocaust to ruthlessly press ahead with its offensive in Gaza.

Kaufman, a frequent critic of Israel who was raised as an Orthodox Jew, sharply criticized Israel in a House of Commons debate on Gaza, saying that “The present Israeli government ruthlessly and cynically exploit the continuing guilt from Gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust as justification for their murder of Palestinians.”

The MP also commented on the claim that large numbers of the Palestinian victims were militants, saying that “I suppose the Jews fighting for their lives in the Warsaw ghetto could have been dismissed as militants,” he said.

Kaufman urged the British government to impose an arms embargo on Israel.

PARIS — Defiance, a Second World War drama in which James Bond star Daniel Craig plays a heroic Jewish resistance fighter, is being greeted with skepticism and anger among some critics in Poland.

The film, which opened in Paris Wednesday and begins playing in Canadian theatres Friday, tells the story of how the Bielski brothers saved an estimated 1,200 Jews from the Nazis in what is now Belarus.

Some Polish nationalists allege that the Bielskis, allied with Soviet partisans in the area, were also responsible for killing Polish civilians.

15/01/2009 The union of Turkish cooperatives, affiliated with the Turkish Agriculture Ministry, announced on its Web site Wednesday it would place an embargo on financing purchases from Israel. The organization offers subsidies to farmers in place of the state agricultural bank. With such an embargo, Turkish farmers will prefer to buy their agricultural supplies from other sources. Israel’s commercial attache in Turkey, Doron Abrahami, said that although it is very difficult to develop new business in Turkey, no cancellations of existing contracts had been reported. The Turkish government had also rejected pressure from MPs to cancel security-related contracts with Israel. Nevertheless, the Manufacturers’ Association recently reported that a delegation of 30 industrialists in the furniture sector that had planned to travel to Istanbul had canceled the trip in view of anti-Israel wave and concerns for the delegation’s safety. Britain has seen isolated instances of company’s refusing to negotiate with Israeli companies over the fighting in the south. “There have been two or three small information technology companies who refused proposals by Israeli companies to do business,” reports Israel’s commercial attache in Britain, Gil Erez. In Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel has taken an unequivocal stance in favor of Israel and against Hamas, which appears to have contributed to the mood of doing business with Israel, says Israel’s commercial attache. Nevertheless, there have been some cancellations of planned tourist visits to Israel from January through May, due to the security situation. In Paris and New York, there were similar reports. Seventeen Israeli paratroopers have been wounded after they came under attack by Palestinian fighters in the Gaza Strip.

Six soldiers were injured when Israeli tanks were hit by anti-tank missiles outside Gaza City, late on Wednesday. They were later transferred to hospitals.

Meanwhile, six other soldiers were wounded when a wall collapsed in northern Gaza City, while, five more Israeli forces sustained injuries in a gun battle with Hamas fighters.

The commander of the Paratroopers 101st Battalion, Lt. Col. Avi Balut, was one of the officers wounded in the gun battle, Haaretz reported.

The news comes as the latest Israeli air strikes across the beleaguered Gaza Strip, left at least 13 more Palestinians killed.

At least 1,038 people including 312 children have been killed and more than 4,700 others wounded since Israel started its Operation Cast Lead on December 27.

Tel Aviv’s military campaign against the Gaza Strip fails to curb rocket attacks as Palestinian fighters fire more missiles into Israel.

Israeli media said on Thursday that two Qassam rockets, fired from the Gaza Strip, struck the southern Israeli city of Ofakim while five other rockets hit Eshkol region.

Two resistance rockets also landed in Be’er Sheva, wounding five Israelis.

In addition, four Qassam-Type missiles hit Israeli settlement in Sderot, where the settlers recently applied for Canadian visas citing fears of Palestinian fighters ‘constant’ rocket firings from the Gaza Strip.

Israeli officials confirmed that 16 resistance missiles hit deferent Israeli settlements over almost 30 minutes. On Wednesday, Palestinian Grad-style rockets landed in the Israeli cities of Ashkelon, Be’er Sheva, Yavneh and Ashdod.

[Ma'anImages] Gaza – Ma’an – Up to 800,000 people, more than half the population of the Gaza Strip now have no running water, a Palestinian water official told Ma’an on Wednesday. The official, Munther Shablaq, said that some of these people have had no running water for two weeks. The worst-affected area is Gaza City, which depends on water supplies from the north and the east of Gaza, where Israeli troops are most heavily-deployed. Shablaq said that the water utility in Gaza normally pumps 220,000 cubic meters per day of water, and is now only producing 100,000 cubic meters per day.

CNN’s John Roberts talked with John Ging who is the director of United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in Gaza. Ging believes that Israeli shells that recently struck the U.N. complex contained white phosphorus. “It looks and smells like phosphorus and it’s burning like phosphorus. That’s all I can say. That’s why I’m calling it phosphorus,” said Ging.

The complex under fire is the U.N. central distribution facility in Gaza. “We’re trying to deal with our whole transport compound. It’s on fire and now have some danger spreading into the warehouse, where all of the food and thousands of tons of food and medicine. This is a hub of the whole operation, the whole United Nations operation in Gaza, this is the hub, where it all comes to, gets distributed from,” he said.
