Muslim Women Challenge Jack Straw’s Divisive Comments Regarding the Veil

London, UK, October 11 – Hundreds of Muslim women will gather at a seminar on Saturday, organised by the women’s chapter of Hizb-ut-Tahrir Britain , to challenge the inflammatory remarks made by Jack Straw and other ministers against the veil. They will discuss how these irresponsible statements made by politicians hoping to score cheap political points have added fuel to the fire of prejudice surrounding the Muslim community.

Margaret Wente of the Globe and Mail begs Muslim women to remove their veils as veiled women give her “a chill”

Whenever I see a woman in a veil walking down the street, I get a chill. I’m not talking about women in head scarves, or even women dressed entirely in black. I’m talking about the full shroud, with only a slit left for the eyes. Not many women dress like this in Canada, but I’m seeing more and more, at least a couple every week.

The United States as Defined by the Founding Fathers No Longer Exists

When does “collateral damage” so dwarf combatant deaths that war becomes genocide?

A Last Wild Ride on the Titanic

Yesterday’s report in the Washington Post that over 650,000 Iraqis have died as a result of the US-led invasion is just the latest bit of bad news to hit the Bush administration. In fact, the buzzards have been circling the White House for some time now and they won’t be leaving anytime soon.

The End of the U.S. as a Civilized Nation

The recently passed Military Commissions Act removes the United States from the ranks of civilized nations. It codifies racial and political discrimination, legalizes kidnapping and torture of those the government deems its political enemies, and eliminates habeas corpus–the ancient precept that prevents the police from arresting and holding you without cause–a basic protection common to all (other) modern legal systems, and one that dates to the Magna Carta.

The Dumbing Down of America

Something is amiss in the great nation called America. Ominous sirens warning this reality can be heard emanating loudly through invisible winds of change circulating our towns and cities. The American people are being strangulated; unbeknownst to the masses they are being transformed and conditioned, becoming the entity the elite have long sought, the culmination of decades of social engineering designed to make of hundreds of millions the slaves of times past and the automatons of the future.

The Assassins of Truth

I charge that the government is engaged in immoral and criminal conduct on a global scale. That it does not conform to the norms of civil society; that it is sociopathic, and flagrantly violates domestic and international law. The form of government that we have does not serve the citizenry—it preys upon them. It is not a government of the people, for the people. It is government of the corporations, for the corporations, by the corporations—a corporate Plutocracy.

Busy fondling their self-esteem

As the news reveals a study that puts civilian deaths in Iraq at 655,000, John Pilger recalls the words of a song by the great Chilean balladeer, Victor Jara, to describe those who see themselves as rational and liberal are, in fact, complicit in an unrecognised crime.

Randi Rhodes Interviews Dr. Les Roberts; co-author of the Johns Hopkins Iraq Mortality Study

The Iraqi death toll has reached 655,000! Johns Hopkins University has just released the only truly scientific accounting on the matter since their 2004 report on the post-invasion death toll.

Excess Death in Iraq

I have worked for eight months in Iraq as a journalist, witnessing the carnage on a daily basis, visiting the morgues with bodies and body parts piled into them, meeting family after family who had lost a loved one, or more … Finally, we get an accurate figure that shows how immense the scale of the long drawn carnage really is.

Mortar attack caused US ammo dump fire in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Oct 11 (Reuters) – A mortar attack caused Tuesday night’s fire at a U.S. ammunition dump in southern Baghdad that sparked a barrage of explosions that continued to shake the capital on Wednesday morning, a U.S. military spokesman said.

The Islamic Army in Iraq, one of a number of militant groups operating in the country, claimed responsibility for the attack.

“The Islamic Army … (launched) rockets and mortar bombs … at a base for the occupying American forces,” said the statement signed by the group and posted on a Web site often used by Islamist militants.

MUSE frontman MATT BELLAMY has sensationally claimed 9/11 was an “inside job”, insisting the attack on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon was orchestrated to give America a perfect an excuse to invade Iraq.
