The Death of Fatah?

Marwan Arikat, Special to

According to the writer, the Palestinian Fatah movement was declared dead by a presidential decree; The article follows Fatah since its inception to its time in Jordan, to Lebanon and finally to the West Bank.

July 27, 2007

On July 17th, 2007, The Palestinian National Liberation Movement , Fatah, has been declared dead by one of its leaders, Mahmoud Abbas. There will be no funerals, because it is not a Palestinian custom to hold mass funerals, reserved for the honourable deaths of martyrs and fighters, for such a disgraceful death.

Of course, we wish that the Fatah death was physical, at least it will save every Palestinian the shame and the humiliation of the spiritual death of Fatah, which is complete surrender to Israel and laying down their arms.

Fatah has refused to lay down its weapons, even when it was wise to do so.

Since it was founded in 1958, the arms of Fatah have been the most controversial issue to the Arab nations, especially the ones who host overpopulated Palestinian refugee camps; therefore, they have to live with the nightmare of an armed Fatah along with the rest of the PLO.

Thus, the Kingdom of Jordan, which has the largest Palestinian population outside of Palestine, has set the example of how to deal with an armed Fatah and armed Palestinians in general.

After Fatah refused to lay down its arms in Jordan, a country where Palestinians make up 60% of the population, moreover, Fatah leadership has unwisely challenged the authority of the late King of Jordan, the late King Hussein has in return made an example of Palestinian fighters and civilians alike, when his forces with the aid of Israel, Iraq and the US, have killed more than 5,000 Palestinians, or 20,000 Palestinians according to the late Yassir Arafat.

Some of these Palestinians where hiding in the bushes of the Jordanian desert and they were burned alive by the Jordanian Army. Those are the same Palestinian fighters who defended the Jordanian town of Karamah from an Israeli invasion.

Following the massacre of the Palestinians in Jordan, which was named “Black September”, the rest of Fatah and the PLO redeployed to another country that borders Israel, it was the Republic of Lebanon.

The southern Lebanon region was completely controlled by the Palestinian fighters, that it was nicknamed “Fatah Land.”

Aside from being a Palestinian organization, Fatah had no sectarian or religious affiliations and it should’ve stayed that way, but when you have the biggest guns in Lebanon after the Israelis and the Syrians, eventually you will be forced to join destructive alliances, especially if you have challenged the authority of the other two bigger powerbrokers in Lebanon.

Fatah has brought the wrath of Syria when it refused to play along the Syrian policy of “divide and conquer” to keep its domination over Lebanon.

On the Israeli side, being a Palestinian is all you need to be despised and pursued by the Israeli occupation forces.

To destroy Fatah, Syria has allied itself with the devil, in this case the Phalange militias, who hated Syria more than the Palestinians.

The Palestinians became allies of the natural enemies of the Phalange, the Druze, some of the Shiite militias, with exception of Amal, and the Sunnis, communists and the nationalists’ movements.

Israel has replaced Syria as the guardian of the Phalange, and it invaded Lebanon in 1982 with the aim of the complete destruction of the Palestinian armed groups.

While the Palestinian realized that they are alone in their battle with Israel and they have no one on their side, some of them decided to leave Lebanon in a negotiated settlement with the US, France, Syria and other Arab countries, and they headed to Cyprus and from their they dispersed into Tunisia, Algeria and Yemen, in addition to other Arab countries like Libya and Iraq.

As the fighters left, the cowardly phalange with the aid of Ariel Sharon, committed one of the most horrific massacres in modern history in the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila, where the killing period took over three days and Palestinian people, young and old were knifed to death and pregnant women were disemboweled.

The crimes were so horrific that it appalled the Israelis who established a commission that found Ariel Sharon “responsible” for the murders.

In Tunisia, Arafat established a government in exile, and pressured Jordan to give up its claim for the West Bank, thus stripping the Arab label from the conflict.

Now it became known as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and allowed Jordan to make peace with Israel, which hurt the Palestinian cause more than anything else.

As a result, instead of one neighboring country making peace with Israel and becoming a neutral party in the conflict, which was Egypt, now there are two Arab countries who are not part of the conflict, even if only diplomatically, because since the 1973 war, Arabs have raised the flag of surrender and stopped harassing or hassling Israel militarily.

Arafat and his henchmen were allowed back in Ramallah after fully recognizing Israel’s “right” to exist, which meant the cancellation of the right of return for the four million Palestinian refugees; this huge concession to Israel was named the Oslo accord or the death warrant of Fatah that we are seeing now.

Abbas has ordered and many Fatah members have obliged to surrender their weapons and sign a declaration of cessation of all attacks on Israel.

It is strange that Israel did not require them to sign away Jerusalem in addition to their right to resist occupation?

Even the most patriotic Fatah faction, Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, which was established to avenge the martyrs who were killed while defending Al-Aqsa from Sharon, who stormed the Holy Sanctuary along with a thousand soldiers back in 2000, and they killed and maimed many Palestinian worshippers.

The Israeli killers are still on the loose and Al-Aqsa Brigade wants to lay down its arms, I think this is the greatest dishonor to the Palestinian killed while defending Al-Aqsa.

We should not forget the honorable members of Fatah who refused to surrender their arms, because to them, the minute the resistance ends, the dream of a free Palestine ends with it.

Musharraf has sold country for sake of dollars

Qazi Hussain Ahmed

Friday July 27, 2007 (2100 PST)

LAHORE, July 27 (Online): The MMA President and Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmad has said that General Pervez Musharraf has sold out national independence and sovereignty for the sake of few US dollars. How can the military rulers stop US and Nato forces from attacking tribal regions of Pakistan since they themselves have been using their army to kill tribal people, he said while delivering Friday sermon at Mansoorah mosque. Qazi Sahib expressed sorrow that military rulers in order to justify their cowardice military operation against Jamia Hafsa made the worst kind of baseless propaganda on world media that “Lal masjid is being occupied by worst kind of foreign terrorists who have made women and children as their shield.” However, no foreigner was found from the mosque and even those declared as foreign militants were found to be locals the next day as their family members identified them. Qazi Hussain Ahmad said the confession by the government ministers of using Phosphorus bombs against Jamia Hafsa women and children by the army, is highly shameful and criminal .

Gen Musharraf’s foreign policy, Qazi Sahib lamented, had remained a total failure since the Pakistan friendly government in Kabul was overthrown and now pro-Indian administration in Kabul has established Indian missions in every Afghan city from where terrorists are operating inside Pakistani territories. Qazi said Gen Musharraf in order to follow US policies has been declaring as enemies those who enforced Islamic Shariat, while on the other hand those promoting obscenity and vulgarity are being presented as models of enlightened moderation. The MMA leader said that anti-Islam measures by the military rulers have left Shariah and Jihad as a curse while our army and establishment has been left unable to defend our independence. He said under these circumstances it is the responsibility of the people to disown such rulers in order to rid them and assemble under the banner of MMA so that the forces trying to make the country secular could be resisted .

CNN Omits 9/11 Conspiracy Comments From Video Marked as: Featured

CNN is running a story about a protester at a Fred Thompson event who was forced out after telling Thompson he wasn’t ‘a real conservative.’ What CNN neglects to mention, in fact omits from it’s story and edits from the corresponding video, is that the woman ejected from the Thompson event wasn’t a ‘conservative.’ In fact, the female who was asking the questions was a memeber of ‘Houston 9/11 Truth’ and was removed only after screaming ‘what about building 7?’ and ‘9/11 was an inside job.’ Watch the raw video of the event and see what CNN edited out.

Why would CNN cut out the 9/11 conspiracy comments? Clearly, they had access to the same footage I did so why did I have to discover this on my own? This looks like a blatant attempt by CNN to make Fred Thompson look bad.

Video: Prosecutor admits that ‘a mistake has been made’ NHS doctors employed without security checks July 7 bomber’s wife miscarried on attack eve

Mohamed Haneef, the Indian doctor held in Australia in relation to the failed bomb plots in Glasgow and London, has had all charges against him dropped.

Mohamed Haneef

Dr Haneef had been working at Queensland’s Gold Coast Hospital

Dr Haneef, 27, has been in custody since July 2 but was only charged on July 14, sparking criticism by civil rights groups at the length of his detention.

An Australian magistrate had ordered he be released on bail last week, but the government blocked the move by revoking his visa, meaning he had to remain in a detention centre.

He had been accused of “providing support to a terrorist organisation”, because he allegedly left his SIM card with his second cousin, one of those linked to the UK attacks.

Damian Bugg, the commonwealth director of public prosecutions, said today that the charge was being withdrawn because he was satisfied “there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.”

“On my view of the matter a mistake has been made,” he added, in apparent recognition of complaints about the police’s lack of evidence against the doctor.

Dr Haneef, who had been working at Queensland’s Gold Coast Hospital since September, was held as he attempted to board a plane bound for India on a one-way ticket. He had previously worked at Halton Hospital near Liverpool.

He will now be released from custody and allowed to return to his Queensland home, although he will still be “formally in detention” under the immigration authorities, according to Kevin Andrews, the immigration minister.

Three men have now been charged in Britain in relation to the terror plots.

Bilal Abdullah, 27, from Iraq, has been charged with conspiracy to cause explosions and accused of being the passenger in the Jeep that crashed into Glasgow airport.

The driver, Kafeel Ahmed, 27, is in a critical condition in Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Mohammed Jamil Asha, 26, the man arrested on the M6 motorway, has also been charged with conspiracy to cause explosions.

Abdullah and Asha are due to appear at the Old Bailey today

Kafeel’s brother, Sabeel Ahmed, 26, a junior doctor in Cheshire, has also been charged with failing to disclose information that might help police.

Last night it emerged that hundreds of junior doctors, including overseas staff, will be employed by hospitals from next week without undergoing proper security checks. Hospital trusts have been unable to investigate whether trainees have criminal records because they have received their names only in the past two weeks – and checks take at least 28 days.

The disclosure will embarrass Gordon Brown, who pledged to tighten checks on medical staff after foreign doctors were arrested in connection with the failed London and Glasgow attacks.

US Fascist : Armed Men Terrorize School

By Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones

Michigan raid part of unfolding agenda to mould schools into prisons and students into obedient slaves

Wednesday, November 1, 2006

A recent incident in which armed riot police raided a Michigan junior and high school as part of a drill that the children were not aware was about to take place raises the bar in the pursuit of an agenda to fully transform public schools into prison training camps set up to breed continuous generations of obedient slaves.

The Associated Press reports,

“A school safety drill that included police officers in riot gear with weapons has caused concern among some parents who say it was too realistic and frightened some students.”

“Students, who were unaware police were conducting a drill, were taken from the classroom into the halls, patted down by officers and asked what they had in their pockets, the newspaper said.”

“Some of these kids were so scared, they just about wet their pants,” said Marge Bradshaw, a parent with four children in Godfrey-Lee Schools. “I think it’s pure wrong that the students and parents were not informed of this.”

The students were not told that the drill was about to take place and the teachers were given just a moments notice.

This follows an incident in early October where another Michigan school was locked down for hours after a teenager was seen in the woods wearing a Halloween mask.

The raid is similar to past examples such as Goose Creek South Carolina (video below), where armed police raided a high school with weapons drawn supposedly in search of drugs. Shouting officers aimed guns at students heads as they were ordered face-up against the wall, then into Guantanamo style squats as they were handcuffed and K9 dogs sniffed their backpacks.

No drugs were found and the Goose Creek Police Department, the city, as well as the Berkeley County School District had to pay $1.6 million for violating the rights of nearly 150 students caught in the raid. The three had to sign a consent decree barring similar activities in future but it included a waver where probable cause or voluntary consent could be cited to conduct further raids.

Having armed men terrorize children is by design and it is intended to normalize the police state and train students to accept it as a routine function of society when they leave school.

Footage from other school raid drills where police in riot gear point MP5’s at students is included in the footage below, taken from Alex Jones’ 9/11: The Road To Tyranny. FBI storm troopers in black uniforms and helmets scream and cuss at children in one instance before loading them on buses and taking them to a local jail. In Fort Worth Texas, the cop of the year was shot in the head by one of his own officers in another school drill.

Also highlighted is the Heartland Christian Academy school siege where CPS and police kidnapped hundreds of children without a warrant. Watch in horror as children filled with terror are forcibly dragged from their screaming mothers and loaded onto prison buses.

A federal judge later barred CPS from removing children from the school in future but vaguely defined provisions remained in place where it could be justified.

Michigan is the epicenter of the agenda to mould all schools into youth internment centers, indoctrinating all children to accept the presence of surveillance cameras, biometric scanning to access buildings and buy food, ID tracking cards and men in uniforms pointing guns at them as normal. Allied to this is the openly stated agenda not to educate but to dumb down students and brainwash them with bizarre humanist rhetoric about the evils of the family, all in preparation for their smooth acquiescence into enslaved adulthood as a downtrodden worker bee under the control matrix of the elite.

From the very foundation of the public school system the elite made their plans clear. The goal was to psychologically mould people to create mindless drones and bricks in the wall of the system, via learning monotonously by rote and the day being divided up by pavlovian bells.

In his 1905 dissertation for Columbia Teachers College, Elwood Cubberlythe future Dean of Education at Stanfordwrote that schools should be factories “in which raw products, children, are to be shaped and formed into finished products…manufactured like nails, and the specifications for manufacturing will come from government and industry.”

Similarly, the Rockefeller Education Boardwhich funded the creation of numerous public schoolsissued a statement which read in part:

“In our dreams…people yield themselves with perfect docility to our molding hands. The present educational conventions [intellectual and character education] fade from our minds, and unhampered by tradition we work our own good will upon a grateful and responsive folk. We shall not try to make these people or any of their children into philosophers or men of learning or men of science. We have not to raise up from among them authors, educators, poets or men of letters. We shall not search for embryo great artists, painters, musicians, nor lawyers, doctors, preachers, politicians, statesmen, of whom we have ample supply. The task we set before ourselves is very simple…we will organize children…and teach them to do in a perfect way the things their fathers and mothers are doing in an imperfect way.”

These are the founders of the public education system in America. The agenda from the very start was to eliminate all forms of objective thought and use education to produce automatons of the state who would shrink from embracing higher forms of intellectual pursuit and truly understanding their role and potential to advance freedom in human society.

When this insipid abuse of the power that the architects hold to shape minds of the future is homogenized with the jackboot thuggery of the proto-police state cameras and security minions that stalk the hallways and corridors – the result is a pack of trained rats, subdued and conditioned to follow the every command of their masters from cradle to grave.

In September 2004, the Muskegon Chronicle reported on a drill that revolved around a mock terrorist attack on a Michigan school bus. The terrorist group were labeled, “Wackos Against Schools and Education who believe everyone should be homeschooled.”

The mock attack was funded by a Homeland Security grant and required the participation of students to act bloody and injured, also involving hospitals, morgues and mannequins painted up to look like dead children, as parents were ordered to dash to emergency rooms frantic in the belief that their child had perished.

The Muskegon Area Intermediate School District later had to apologize for characterizing homeschoolers as terrorists after hundreds of complaints poured in.

Stereotypes consistently propped-up by the media demonize homeschoolers as hicks, retards and extremists, despite the fact the local and national spelling bees are routinely won by homeschooled children.

The ceaseless attack on homeschooling is an attempt to neutralize any alternatives parents have to placing their children in the state run re-education gulags known as the “public school system.”

In April 2005 a 5-year-old Florida girl was manhandled and handcuffed by police after she had a tantrum. Cases of zealous clampdowns by the authorities in schools are rife and pretext for the imposition of draconian measures of surveillance and armed security thugs is provided by regular school shootings across the country.

In almost every case the shooter is hopped up on a combination of the Ritalin-style substances that have become prevalent in America as our children are force-drugged with dangerous toxic trash, not to mention the increasing amount of mandatory vaccinations, and turned into mumbling nervous wrecks – all the natural zest and innocence of childhood cruelly raped from them by the state.

One in seven children are on Ritalin and other dangerous psychotropic drugs which make them swing between drooling in the corner at one point and then acting wildly the next. These numbers are only increasing. Children are put on these drugs in the first place for the most inane and insane reasons, such as raising their hand to answer questions in class too often.

In other cases, like Columbine, the shootings are deliberately aided by the state apparatus to manipulate popular opinion and pass gun control legislation as well as increase the chorus for more school lock-downs and restrictive and oppressive control measures.

We will continue to see armed men terrorize our children, aim guns at their head and indoctrinate them to accept living under tyranny unless parents and teacher organizations band together to file huge lawsuits against those responsible and we vehemently denounce the insidious Sovietization of the public school system.

US Propaganda : Mainstream News Media Reveals its Contempt for Americans

Mainstream News Media Reveals its Contempt for Americans

By Curt Maynard

This article is in response to an article published earlier today, July 26, 2007, by the Olympian, a liberal newspaper out of Olympia Washington, the Capital of Washington State, by Daryl Lamont Jenkins, a black writer from Philadelphia. Jenkin’s article is provocatively entitled “Minority columnists won’t be silenced by bigoted threats,”[1] and seeks to elicit sympathy for another black journalist by the name of Leonard Pitts, who recently informed white Americans that he cries them a river, in respect to their concern over the growing number of black on white crimes in this country. Oh surely you jest Mr. Maynard, a mainstream syndicated columnist could never get away with such a thing, that borders on a racist statement and is insensitive to say the least.

I’m not kidding dear reader, I’m very serious, Leonard Pitts’ said exactly that and he said it in a column he wrote about a crime so horrifying that words cannot adequately describe what happened to two white youth, a male and a female named Channon Christian and Chris Newsom, at the hands of four blacks [including a black female] last January in Knoxville Tennessee[2] – how it is that Pitts’ can suggest that the crime wasn’t a “hate crime” is far beyond my ability to comprehend, other than to say he was put up to it to explain how it was that the media ignored this crime while at the same time overemphasizing the nonexistent Duke Lacrosse rape case.

Now I’m about to do something radical, something that Jenkin’s and Pitts’ never do; I’m going to provide sources. Yep, I’m not kidding, I’m going to provide the reader with irrefutable proof that I’m telling the truth and that Jenkin’s and Pitts’ aren’t. The truth is; Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Leonard Pitts, in an article published by the Miami Herald on June 3, 2007, entitled “‘Oppressed’ whites? Give me a break,”[3] said exactly what I’ve paraphrased above, his exact wording was as follows, and remember; it was in fact written to whites in general, not as Pitts’ attempts to convince us after the fact, to white supremacists:

“… let me add that I am likewise unkindly disposed toward the crackpots, incendiaries and flat-out racists who have chosen this tragedy upon which to take an obscene and ludicrous stand. I have four words for them [crackpots, incendiaries and flat-out racists] AND any other white Americans who feel themselves similarly victimized… Cry me a river.”

The word “and” is inclusive and the words “any other white Americans,” means exactly that, any other white Americans [If you’re white, Pitts was including YOU]. Could Pitts’ have written this accidentally? No, Pitts’ is a Pulitzer Prize recipient, he knew EXACTLY what he wanted to say, he just never expected to be held responsible for it.

Immediately after writing the above words Pitts and the Miami Herald were inundated with letters, emails and phone calls from outraged readers across the country, as they should have been. Pitts himself claimed in a later article that he had received more than 400 critical emails, which he insinuated were from white supremacists alone as if only white supremacists [whatever that term is suppose to imply] would find his words insulting. Pitts attempted to mitigate what he wrote, or more accurately “lie,” about what he had written, in another article entitled “Neo-Nutsies bring frustration, anger — and joy,”[4] by stating that he did not tell whites in general to “cry me a river,” but only neo-nutsies. This is a bald faced lie as you can see for yourself simply by reading his article – I’ve used Pitts’ own words and provided you the reader with citation/sources, Pitts’ didn’t provide his readers with any mitigating evidence, only lies, innuendo, and condemnation for his critics – unlike myself, Pitts’ just expects you to believe him.

In respect to Daryl Lamont Jenkin’s article, it’s nothing more than another example of one brother helping another. Jenkin’s wants us to believe that an unnamed someone has threatened Leonard Pitts’ but doesn’t want to provide us with that someones name, nor tell us what that someone actually said. Since he won’t I will. What Jenkin’s is referring to is the fact that a self admitted “neo-nazi” named Bill White posted Leonard Pitts’ physical address on the Internet after he became incensed over Pitts’ article “‘Oppressed’ whites? Give me a break, which White along with tens of thousands of others found to be offensive – is that such a wonder? When White was asked by a representative of the Miami Herald to take Pitts’ home address off the Internet he replied “We have no intention of removing Mr Pitts’ personal information… Frankly, if some loony took the info and killed him, I wouldn’t shed a tear.”[5] There you have it and as you can clearly see, it isn’t a threat, it’s merely a statement, and that is why neither Leonard Pitts, nor Daryl Lamont Jenkins bothered to provide it for you. If it had been a threat you can bet your last dollar the FBI would have responded to it by arresting Bill White.

If you carefully read Jenkin’s article you’ll note that he never even bothers to mention what it was that Pitts considered threatening. I think one can safely assume this was having his home address posted on the net. This omission, on the part of Daryl Lamont Jenkins was anything but an accident, One Peoples Project, an organization Jenkins is intimately associated with, has made an art form out of harassing people by posting their home addresses on the Internet.
In his article Jenkins writes something that exposes the hypocrisy of his, Pitts’ and the entire mainstream media’s approach to what actually constitutes racism when he pens, “Many of those who are responsible for racial tensions – take for instance, Don Imus – are usually ignored until columnists from the communities they attack speak out.”[6] Unfortunately this is very untrue, I’ve written several articles about Leonard Pitts and what he actually wrote and have submitted them to dozens of mainstream publications, and not one has bothered to publish and/or post them, not one. Who then represents the White community when it is attacked? The fact is; nobody does. The fact is, what Leonard Pitts wrote in respect to how he felt about the concerns of “any other white Americans that feel themselves similarly victimized,” by blacks is far more insensitive and “racist,” than referring to a group of black female basketball players as “nappy headed hoes.” Jenkin’s has no right whatsoever to condemn Imus for racism in the same article he does his best to defend Pitts from it, the only reason he can get away with it is because too many newspapers in this country have nothing but contempt for whites and/or anyone that doesn’t embrace their liberal agendas.

Earlier today I sent the Oregonian, the state of Oregon’s largest newspaper an email after becoming aware of the fact that they publish Pitts syndicated column, I informed them that Leonard Pitts was not only a “racist,” at least as one would be defined today if one were white, but that he was also a liar, which I’ve conclusively proven in this article for all to see. I sent the Oregonian this article[7] as evidence in support of my charges and a few hours later I received a response from them which simply read “Cry me a river.”[8] Now if that isn’t contempt I don’t know what is – the Oregonian is presented with absolute proof that one of their columnists is not only racist in respect to how he feels about whites but is also a liar and they respond by reinforcing Pitts’ hatred of whites by using his own contemptuous words. Is it likely that the Oregonian or the Olympian will publish my article? Fat chance, but I’ll submit it to them nonetheless. Neither paper is interested in the truth, they are interested in fomenting discord and advancing their owners liberal agenda which doesn’t include the idea that blacks can be racists, nope, racism is strictly something whites are guilty of from their own particular point of view.

If you think Leonard Pitts’ should be held just as responsible for his comments as Don Imus was for his, sign this petition

Wake up America, you’re being deceived!

Exclusive: More US Corruption in New Orleans

Mike Swenson |

July 25, 2007

The city of New Orleans was rocked today by two scandalous acquittals.

The first was handed down to Dr. Anna Pou, who was arrested for second-degree murder. According to an article on, Dr. Pou was accused of euthanizing patients at New Orleans Medical Center just days after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city. Louisiana Attorney General Charles C. Foti stated that “the investigation concluded that patients were given a “lethal cocktail” of morphine and midazolam hydrochloride, both central nervous system depressants”. “None of the patients had been prescribed the drugs by their caregivers, and none of the accused treated them before the injections”. Foti even went as far as stating “This was not euthanasia…this was homicide”. The case was tossed out by a grand jury.

The second, and most appalling, was handed down to Robert Evangelist, a New Orleans police officer, who was arrested and charged with brutality in the beating of a sober 66 year old man on a sidewalk after Hurricane Katrina. The judge in the case, District Judge Frank Marullo, according to the Associated Press, stated “”I didn’t even find this a close call”.

In all, three officers were charged in the beating. One of them has since committed suicide. The third officer, Stuart Smith, According to the AP, “was accused of a misdemeanor charge of simple battery against Associated Press producer Richard Matthews. District Judge Marullo threw out that charge because prosecutors improperly used a statement he made to police, said Smith’s attorney, Eric Hessler. Smith served a 120-day suspension and remains on the force. Further, “the video also shows two FBI agents joining the police in subduing Davis. Federal officials said they would investigate their role, and the agents were never indicted.”

What are the exact reasons for these acquittals? Could this be tied to some sort of nefarious plan to systematically drive out the poor citizens of New Orleans in a greedy power grab? Evidence released by mainstream outlets back in 2006 certainly points in that direction.

In Spike Lee’s film “When the Levees Broke”, several witnesses who were interviewed claimed that they heard “explosions” coming from the levees prior to their collapse. To them, the explosions sounded like bombs.

To further this claim, a New Orleans resident who was interviewed in August of 2006 on “Hardball with Chris Matthews” stated that he believes the levees were sabotaged.

Four days after the storm, Bush, during an interview on ABC News, stated that “I don’t think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees.”

Then, in March of 2006, the Associated Press released a shocking report that detailed how President Bush lied in regards to having knowledge about the levees’ breaching. Videotape of Bush being briefed on the real possibility of the levees breached was released with this AP report.

To add to the misery, back in March of 2006, it was reported by the website that the City of New Orleans had confiscated and stockpiled firearms belonging to citizens. ” The city even took lawyers to the place where some 1,000 firearms are being stored….this is a very significant event,” said attorney Dan Holliday, who represents National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation in an on-going lawsuit seeking to stop the city from seizing privately-owned firearms.

Much like the attacks of September 11th, these incidents, along with the two acquittals handed down today, could reasonably considered probable cause for a new investigation into the tragic events of Hurricane Katrina and the possible complicity involved.

How Will Humanity Survive the Capitalist Brutal Threat?

Jason Miller

July 27, 2007

A few days ago, one of my closest friends hit me with a heavily loaded question.

“Are you a Communist?” she queried.

To which I replied:

I do not belong nor militate in any formal communist party in the U.S. Nor do I belong to any other political entity or party. Furthermore, I do not subscribe to a specific doctrine, ideology, or dogma. My allegiance is to my core principles and values, which are premised on honesty, justice, humanity, responsibility, critical thinking, open-mindedness, egalitarianism, compassion, a belief in a Higher Power of my understanding, and many of the teachings of Christ.

My personal beliefs aside, communism is an incredibly loaded word. Our infinitely mendacious educational, social, and media infrastructures begin inculcating reflexive rejection of “all things communist or socialist” into US Americans from the moment they draw their initial breath.

Why is the establishment so desperate to vaccinate us against the “disease” of communism?

Because at its hopelessly rotten core, capitalism, which is manifested most strongly in the United States, is about exploitation, hyper-competitiveness, “rugged individualism”, survival of the fittest, concentration of wealth in the hands of the few, profits above all, property over people, greed, and selfishness. Perhaps worst of all, this pyramid scheme masquerading as a “moral” economic system inevitably leads to wars fueled by its insatiable demands for new markets, more resources, and cheaper labor. Why else would 350 million out of 6.5 billion people spend a trillion dollars a year on a military that has the capacity to destroy our planet thousands of times over, dwarfs the combined firepower of the rest of the world, and plagues over 130 countries with its “benign” occupations? We in the United States maintain a carefully crafted façade as the “benevolent champions of democracy”, but will quickly install ruthless tyrants and commit mass murder (euphemistically labeling our victims as “collateral damage”) if sovereign nations dare to resist our economic rape and plunder.

And for those who have swallowed the specious argument that “true capitalism” doesn’t exist, you’re dreaming. Pinch yourself hard enough and you may awaken before it is too late. Capitalism is a cancer upon the sentient beings of the Earth and we are suffering through its advanced stages. Finance capital reigns supreme, massive oligopolies abound, wealth is increasingly accumulating in the hands of the few, imperial wars to expand markets and attain resources are increasing in frequency, and the insatiable greed driving this appalling perversion is raping and destroying the Earth.

Some opine that if we could just dismantle the “socialist” aspects of our socioeconomic system in the United States, restoring an unbridled free market, the world would be a much better place. Certainly our cynical plutocracy would welcome such a transition. However, it is hard to envision too many working people truly welcoming a return to ten year olds working twelve hour days, company towns, death and dismemberment on the job with no recourse against employers maintaining perilous work environments, miserly wages that would make today’s working poor look relatively affluent, blatantly monopolistic business practices, and wanton disregard for the environment.

History has clearly demonstrated that “free markets” are “free passes” for acquisitive sociopaths who thrive on bullying and exploiting a large percentage of the Earth’s sentient beings. And despite the ridiculously few and relatively minor restraints that social unrest has forced the opulent class to implement in the US, adept players in the deadly game of capitalism have refused to surrender their “inalienable right” to fuck the rest of the human race in their relentless charge to attain the power and wealth they so desperately crave to distract them from the existential agony of their spiritual emptiness.

[Note: If you don’t find a historical perspective convincing enough, consider the deadly machinations of the “free market” in China as it hurtles headlong into the very bowels of capitalist Hell:

Karl Marx predicted the inevitable implosion of capitalism and theorized that a much more humane, egalitarian, and democratic system would rise in its place. It is little wonder that the bourgeoisie in the United States have striven so tenaciously to inculcate the unwashed masses to despise, fear, and ridicule socialism, communism, and nearly all aspects of Marxist thought. Sound bites, emotionally evocative images, ahistorical presentations, fear mongering, jingoism, advertising, and numerous temptations of instant gratification comprise a vast array of highly refined and insidious propaganda that perpetually hammers our minds to create a potent and effective false consciousness, and an irrational fear of anything but capitalism.

Socialism and communism, the political manifestations of Marxist ideas, have been grossly distorted within the framework of this false consciousness. While it is true that the implementations of Marx’s philosophies have yielded mixed results (many of those outcomes are primarily due to the unwavering hostility of the older, well established capitalist powers in the second half of the 20th century, led of course by the U.S.), the chasm between reality and the mind fuck we have received since birth is wide enough to engulf Donald Trump’s ego, or most of it anyway. For evidence, one need look no further than our Cold War nemesis.

Consider the pernicious myth that the United States “defeated” fascism in Europe in WWII. This lie persists despite the fact that a number of our very own uber-Capitalists did business with the Nazi regime until the 1942 Trading with the Enemy Act finally forbade it. Ironically, Prescott Bush, GW’s grandfather, was amongst those profiting from Hitler’s rise to power. Further, our ruling elite refused to intervene on behalf of a democratically elected government in Spain against Franco, who ultimately rose to power as a fascist dictator. Perhaps most importantly, the US lost about 500,000 people (almost all of whom were military personnel) in “defeating” Germany. Russia, one of history’s most heavily vilified “communist” nations, sacrificed 20 million people to ensure Hitler’s defeat. Had it not been for those evil “communists”, we might be speaking German right now.

Shortages of consumer goods is another “communist failure” apologists for capitalism love to trot out as “proof” that their beloved license to plunder and conquer is inherently superior to a more just economic system. Yet time and again they suppress the real reasons these shortages occurred. Recognizing the existential threat that Marxist ideals posed to their Anglo, imperial, and patriarchal plutocracy, the United States ruling class and its allies circled the wagons and imposed crippling economic sanctions on nations attempting to implement communism (i.e. Russia and Cuba).

Domestically, communists and socialists endured harassment, financial ruin, and prison. Witness the Palmer Raids and the witch hunts of the McCarthy era. Thank God our opulent overlords nipped potential revolutionary action in the bud. It is a tremendous relief that such a small number of “richly deserving” individuals acted to ensure the perpetuation of their virtual monopoly on the wealth of our nation, particularly in light of the existence of over a million homeless US Americans. Heartwarming indeed.

Yet our intrepid profit-seekers weren’t content to stop there. Realizing that the Soviet Union had an economy that was roughly 1/8th the size of the United States and was still largely agrarian all the way up to the Russian Revolution, they decided to initiate a ruinous military escalation that eventually culminated in the criminal nuclear arms race. Enabling obscene profits for the military industrial complex (by way of raping the US American taxpayer) and smothering communism in its infancy, the vampiric bourgeoisie ensured the perpetuation of its abominable existence. Meanwhile, the Ruskies faced the staggering tasks of industrializing a technologically backward nation, rebuilding their devastated infrastructure, and meeting consumer demands. So of course they didn’t have a McDonalds on each corner or a new car dealer within a three mile radius of every home. They were too busy bringing their economy into the 20th Century, recovering from Hitler’s invasion, and matching the US warhead for warhead.

Now, do I think that any manifestation of a communist government to date is a utopia? No. I see their flaws. But remember, those who have tried to implement socialism or communism have faced a formidable adversary in the form of the rotten bastards who comprise both our “elected” and our de facto governments. Crushing those who dare to attempt alternatives to the sacred cow of capitalism and trumpeting our “monopoly” on virtue, we US Americans would benefit tremendously from some serious soul-searching about our participation in a morally bankrupt mode of being. What spiritual growth or substance could possibly flourish in a system premised on greed, selfishness, and self-absorption?

Are we, the beneficiaries of a relative degree of physical security and comfort (in exchange for our complicity in crony capitalism, Neoliberal exploitation, and imperial invasions), truly superior to the communists and socialists we have been taught to fear and revile? How many invasions have Fidel or Chavez EVER launched?

We the People are mere pawns of our multimillionaires in Congress, the 10% who own 90% of our nation’s wealth, massive corporations, and a group which includes in its ranks both GW and other abject criminals like Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Abrams, Negroponte, and many others who have acted with impunity dating back to the Nixon era. There is a revolving door between our government (including both “elected” and appointed officials) and major corporations. Cheney and Halliburton represent exhibit A. Lobbyists and special interest groups pull our legislators’ strings and, in some instances, even write our laws, as was the case in the behind-closed-doors deal that Cheney cooked for the energy corporations. And look at our most likely Democratic Presidential nominee to be, Hillary Clinton, whose conservatism is one of the best kept secrets inside the Beltway. As a First Lady, she ostensibly fought aggressively for universal health care. She has now sold us out by accepting nearly a million dollars from the health care industry. Corruption, duplicity, mendacity, and egregious criminal conduct are not the exception. They are the rule in our vaunted capitalist system.

Our domestic politics, guided and determined by the demands of our predatory socioeconomic structure, are not alone in reeking of the fetid stench of profound moral decay. Consider our malevolent foreign policy, including myriad CIA covert operations, economic extortion, and outright imperial slaughter frequently employed to crush efforts by sovereign nations to defy the capitalist paradigm and implement socialism. For convincing evidence that we are NOT wearing white hats and making the world safe for democracy, do a little research on Chile and Salvador Allende, Cuba and Castro, Iran and Mossadeq, Franco and Spain, Ho Chi Minh and Vietnam (we “only” killed 3 million people there), Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.

Here is a good starting point (the entire website is excellent, but the page linked below gives a condensed version of parts of our history the plutocracy doesn’t want the masses to know– the mainstream media and textbook writers have done a masterful job of shielding us from the truths displayed on this site):

While it wasn’t his intention at the time, David Starr Jordan (from Imperial Democracy, 1899, pp. 50-51 –cited in Monthly Review, September 2006, p. 53.) penned an apt characterization of the despicable foreign policy of the American Empire:

“First you push into territories where you have no business to be, and where you had promised not to go; secondly, your intrusion provokes resentment and, in these wild countries, resentment means resistance; thirdly, you instantly cry out that the people are rebellious and that their act is rebellion (this in spite of your own assurance that you have no intention of setting up a permanent sovereignty over them); fourthly, you send a force to stamp out the rebellion; and fifthly, having spread bloodshed, confusion and anarchy, you declare, with hands uplifted to the heavens, that moral reasons force you to stay, for if you were to leave, this territory would be left in a condition which no civilized power could contemplate with equanimity or with composure. These are the five stages in the Forward Rake’s progress.”

Having analyzed our vile and reprehensible economic paradigm from many angles, I find it virtually impossible to believe that a critical thinking, decent human being could support our institutionalized rapacity, at least not once they pierced the simulacrum so fastidiously maintained by the corporate media.

Fortunately, challenging life experiences spurred me to undertake a spiritual and intellectual journey that enabled me to break free of the prison of false consciousness. While I tend to look at the world through a very eclectic lens, I derive most of my principles, beliefs, and sociopolitical views from Marxism, the Friends of Bill W, Christ’s teachings, and Buddha.

Together with many dedicated and exceptional human beings, I am waging an intellectual/political struggle for social justice, a reasonable degree of peace in the world, a significant reduction in exploitation, a more equitable distribution of resources, an end to the rising epidemic of unnecessary suffering, the formation of a social structure based on our interdependence with nature and each other, the obliteration of the moronic, sociopathic American myth that individuality and personal rights supersede the well-being of the collective, true justice for criminals and their victims, the evisceration of corporate power, awakening people from their trance of self-absorption and apathy, and an end to the hedonistic narcissism manifested in obscene levels of consumerism. A number of factors indicate that we are in a pre-revolutionary stage in the United States. Premature revolutionary activity at this point would be suicidal folly, but meanwhile, we have plenty of opportunity to implement radical solutions at the personal level and to employ political education to win hearts and minds.

If you still tremble at the notion of “Godless communists, socialists or Marxists,” remember that though I am not a Christian, I am deeply spiritual and derive tremendous inspiration from Christ and members of the Liberation Theology Movement. Marxist thought is not antithetical to spirituality, morality, or Christianity. In fact, I examined its synthesis with these elements in some detail when I wrote “Jesus Wouldn’t Bomb Anyone: Why are we waging war on the poor and oppressed?” at:

No, I’m not the “communist bogeyman” that Ronald Reagan (who was a far better actor in the White House than he was in Hollywood) warned you about. How could I be? Communists, socialists, and Marxists are only potentially threatening to those amongst us who will waste eternity desperately attempting to squeeze camels through the eyes of needles.

Forget worrying about the “communist threat.” We need to turn the moneyed establishment’s idiocy on its head and focus our energies on answering a question that affects the 90% of us who aren’t obscenely affluent:

How will humanity survive the capitalist threat?

Just a Coincidence? Four of Jessica Lynch’s Rescuers Have Died Mysteriously

Picasso Dreams

A few nights ago I saw a preview of Saving Jessica Lynch. It was all I could do to contain the gray matter.

I was extremely busy and without access to a computer during the “rescue.” A week after Pfc. Lynch was returned to American custody, I heard incredulous stories of a heroic young soldier, Rambo-style shooting at the enemy until out of bullets, and who endured stab wounds and torture until she was dramatically rescued in perfect made-for TV fashion.

And then the BBC aired the infamous documentary, essentially labeling the Pentagon’s version of events as a work of fiction. I trust the BBC over the Pentagon.

Sure enough, Pfc Lynch has selective amnesia and cannot remember the events of her capture and rescue, though that hasn’t stopped her from a million dollar book deal with the NY Times most recent plagiarist du jour, Rick Bragg.

When the Department of Defense insisted on keeping up their official version of the rescue, I knew that inevitably some of Lynch’s rescuers would be hushed. After all, here is a woman who endured a few broken limbs from a vehicle accident and is rewarded with a million bucks, while her rescuers continue to live without toilets and running water in a Depleted Uranium wasteland. Her Bronze Star has outraged many veterans. At some point even the threat of an untimely demise will not keep some disgruntled military folks from talking.

Eerily enough, four of Pfc. Lynch’s rescuers and colleagues have met an early demise.

Petty Officer First Class David M. Tapper died of wounds received in Afghanistan. He took part in the rescue.

Lance Cpl. Sok Khak Ung was killed in a drive-by shooting. He was also part of the rescue team.

Spc Josh Daniel Speer died when his car crashed into some trees for no apparent reason. He was part of the rescue team.
Kyle Edward Williams, who worked in the same company as Lynch, died of “suicide”.

“A Tucson man was shot to death outside a West Side hotel Wednesday after breaking into a vehicle and being confronted by its owner, an Army soldier, who shot him in the back and fled, police said Friday.

The soldier, Spc. Kyle Edward Williams, 21, was found dead outside San Diego on Thursday and officials believe he committed suicide with one of the seven firearms he had been carrying with him.

He left no note to explain the suicide or why he fired six shots at Noah P. Gamez, also 21, after spotting the man stealing an ice chest from his Jeep.

Williams spent seven months in the Middle East as part of the 507th Maintenance Company, the same unit as Pfc. Jessica Lynch, Army officials said.

He didn’t have any disciplinary or mental health problems before he left Fort Bliss, Texas, at the end of September for 20 days of leave before moving to a new military job, the officials said.”

But this statistically improbable occurrence is just a coincidence.

Thousands held in horrific conditions in Iraqi prisons

Thousands held in horrific conditions in Iraqi prisons

James Cogan, WSWS

27 July 2007

The Los Angeles Times on July 21 revealed some of the abuses taking place inside US-monitored, Iraqi government prisons. The article documented the plight of prisoners in a Baghdad facility, which has the Orwellian name of Forward Operating Base Justice.

The prison in the suburb of Kadhimiyah was intended to house just 300 detainees, but is currently holding close to 900. Journalists touring the facility saw as many as 500 men being held in a single hall. No attempt was being made to separate prisoners according to their alleged crime or age. Some were as young as 15. To sleep, prisoners were provided with only foam mattresses or cardboard boxes. The urinals and toilets were blocked. Prisoners were forced to defecate in a solitary shower and basin, and attempt to wash themselves under a broken water pipe.

According to US military policeman Colonel Daniel Britt, these conditions were “appalling,” but conformed to “international standards”. American personnel, who visit the prison nearly every day to advise the Iraqi jailors, turn a blind eye to systematic human right violations. An Iraqi police official told the Los Angeles Times that most of the prisoners were held for at least two months before being brought before a judge and formally charged. Under Iraqi law, they must appear before a judge with 72 hours.

Just one medical officer is assigned to the prison and the police official admitted there was little in the way of medication to treat injured or sick detainees. The Los Angeles Times wrote: “Partially treated wounds, skin diseases and grossly unsanitary conditions appear common here.”

Most of the prison guards are Shiites and are connected with the Shiite parties that gained political power by collaborating with the US occupation against the mainly Sunni Arab resistance movement. One of the prison commanders is allegedly a member of the Mahdi Army militia, which follows the populist Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr. Shiite prisoners, many of whom would be Mahdi Army loyalists, “will just get released, just let go,” according to a US military official.

Sunni prisoners face a different scenario. One told journalists that guards had contacted his families following his arrest and demanded a bribe of $20,000 to secure his releasea huge sum in a country where the US invasion has forced over eight million Iraqis to live on less than $1 per day.

Most of the detainees are Sunnis. The numbers in the prison have swollen since February due to the US “surge”. Thousands of additional American troops have deployed into Baghdad to carry out major operations in suburbs where the occupation has never been able to establish control. Hundreds of Iraqi men have been dragged off to detention centres for no other reason than the fact they lived in one of the targeted areas.

US officials told ABC News last week that the number of detainees being held in US facilities has increased from 16,000 in February to more than 22,500. In March, the UN human rights report on Iraq stated that at least 20,000 more were being detained in prisons operated by various branches of the Iraqi security forces. That figure has likely grown to 30,000.

Little is known about the treatment of these prisoners. This month, however, the US-based Human Rights Watch published the findings of an investigation into conditions at 10 prisons operated by the Asayish or interior police of the US-backed Kurdish Regional Government, which presides over Iraq’s three northern provinces. Over 150 detainees were interviewed between April and October 2006.

The report summary states: “Human Rights Watch found that in the vast majority of Asayish detainee cases the Kurdistan authorities did not charge detainees with offenses, allow them access to a lawyer, bring them before an investigative judge, provide a mechanism by which they could appeal their detentions, or bring them to trial within a reasonable time period….

“Detainees reported a wide range of abuse, including beatings using implements such as cables, hosepipes, wooden sticks, and metal rods. Detainees also described how Asayish agents put them in stress positions for prolonged periods, and kept them blindfolded and handcuffed continuously for several days at a stretch. The vast majority of detainees with whom Human Rights Watch spoke also reported that they were held in solitary confinement for extended periods. With some exceptions, Human Rights Watch found that conditions of detention at Asayish facilities were severely overcrowded and unhygienic….” Close to 10 percent of the detainees had been transferred into this nightmare by the US military. (See “Caught in the Whirlwind: Torture and Denial of Due Process by the Kurdistan Security Forces”)

Several recent reports suggest that the conditions in prisons run by the Iraqi government are worse. The militias of Shiite fundamentalist parties have thoroughly infiltrated the Iraqi security forces and are utilising their positions to conduct a brutal civil war against Sunni opponents of the occupation and US-backed regime.

An unconfirmed report published on the website on July 19 claimed that a secret underground detention facility had been found operating in the very centre of Kadhimiyahright under the noses of US forces. Some 415 men were being imprisoned there, many of whom were Sunnis who had held military or political positions in Saddam Hussein’s Baathist regime. The sources claimed that they were being fed food scraps. They also alleged that Shiite militiamen had executed several hundred prisoners over the preceding two years and dumped their bodies in the streets of Baghdad. On a typical day, more than 20 bodies, generally showing signs of hideous torture, are found in Iraq’s capital.

The report implied that the operator of the secret prison was the Badr Organisation. Badr is linked with the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC), a Shiite party that has close links with the Iranian regime and which has played a major role in all the US-backed Iraqi governments since the March 2003 invasion. Badr members dominate the Iraqi Interior Ministry. There have been continuous allegations since 2004 that the ministry operates death squads and employs torture.

The latest accusation was made on July 22 by the Sunni Islamic Party of Iraq (IPI), which claimed that a prison had been raided by US troops near the Al Shaab international football stadium, on the other side of the Tigris River from Kadhimiyah. The IPI press release stated: “A US force stormed on Saturday [July 21] a Ministry of Interior prison near al-Shaab International Stadium in Baghdad, arrested six officers and found torture instruments in a secret room.”

The US military has not confirmed the IPI’s allegations, suggesting that if US troops did raid a prison it was not on the orders of their senior commanders. In August 2004, Oregon National Guardsmen who took matters into their own hands and stormed an Iraqi government facility after witnessing prisoner abuse were ordered by the US military hierarchy to leave the victims in the custody of their Interior Ministry torturers.

The true extent of the crimes that have been carried out in Iraqi prisons will not be fully known until all foreign troops have been withdrawn from Iraq and credible, independent investigations can take place. It may well be established, however, that the abuses revealed at Abu Ghraib during 2003 were only an early attempt to use abuse, torture and murder to break the resistance of the Iraqi people to the US occupation. The US military has since subcontracted the dirty work out to its Iraqi collaborators.

Iraqi government in deepest crisis

Iraqi government in deepest crisis

Sam Dagher

Fri Jul 27, 2007

Baghdad – Iraq is in the throes of its worst political crisis since the fall of Saddam Hussein with the new democratic system, based on national consensus among its ethnic and sectarian groups, appearing dangerously close to collapsing, say several politicians and analysts.

This has brought paralysis to governmental institutions and has left parliament unable to make headway on 18 benchmarks Washington is using to measure progress in Iraq, including legislation on oil revenue sharing and reforming security forces.

And the disconnect between Baghdad and Washington over the urgency for solutions is growing. The Iraqi parliament is set for an August vacation as the Bush administration faces pressure to show progress in time for a September report to Congress.

At the moment, Iraqi politicians are simply trying to keep the government from disintegrating. On Friday, top Iraqi officials were set to convene in the Kurdish north for a crisis summit, in the hopes that talks held outside of Baghdad’s politically poisonous atmosphere may bring some resolution to the current political standstill. President Jalal Talabani and his two deputies, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and the president of the semiautonomous Kurdish region, Massoud Barzani, were set to meet at the Salaheddin summer resort at the end of a difficult week.

On Wednesday, the Iraqi Accordance Front said it pulled out of Mr. Maliki’s coalition government, but would return its six cabinet members if the prime minister met a list of demands. The Sunni bloc says it wants, among other things, pardons for detainees not facing specific criminal charges and for all militias to be disbanded.

“We are frankly in the midst of the worst crisis,” says Fakhri Karim, a close adviser to Messrs. Barzani and Talabani who also publishes the independent Al Mada newspaper. He says he doubts the Friday meeting will find any resolution because of the new political tussle with the Iraqi Accordance Front.

“Most of the political blocs have failed to operate within the framework of national consensus. They can’t even properly formulate their positions and proposals, let alone realize the very serious dangers that surround everyone.”

The gravity of the situation was underscored by several officials. “We have a governmental crisis. Our people expect better performance,” said Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari.

And since Saturday, US Ambassador Ryan Crocker has been shuttling between Iraq’s top leaders, but an embassy spokesperson said this was not necessarily indicative of a crisis.

“The surge has done well in making a difference in security conditions. But it isn’t a light switch for reconciliation; there are no quick fixes to years of bitterness and violence,” he said.

Some US military officers have expressed concern privately that Iraq’s leadership has failed to take advantage of some of the breathing room offered by the US-led surge against insurgents and militants.

The crisis is also fueling discontent and alienation among Iraqis.

“They are making us regret we ever voted for them … they should learn something about unity from our soccer team,” said an anonymous caller on a state television program on Wednesday after Iraq’s victory over South Korea in the Asian Cup semifinals.

Iraq’s two rounds of elections in 2005 were historic in many ways. They empowered once-marginalized Shiites and Kurds, but the experience also enshrined and even codified in the new Constitution a consensus-based system that is built on a delicate division of authority along sectarian and ethnic lines.

This was meant mainly to accommodate the embittered Sunni Arabs who were slow to embrace the political process and continue to fuel a violent insurgency that has spiraled into a bloody sectarian war.

But 14 months after Maliki, a Shiite, formed his so-called government of national unity, Iraq’s quest for democracy has hit a wall. Political leaders, mainly Shiites and Sunnis, are now trading a barrage of very serious recriminations.

“The partnership experience has been dealt major blows … we tried to maintain our good intentions and patience … but we have been faced with arrogance, a monopoly over power, and efforts to eliminate [us] in every way,” said Khalaf al-Olayan from the Iraqi Accordance Front at a press conference announcing the suspension of six cabinet members from the government.

If they pull out, it would bring to 12 the number of vacancies in Maliki’s 39-member cabinet.

“We are firmly convinced after this bitter experience that this government represented by its prime minister is incapable of joining a truly patriotic project,” added Mr. Olayan, surrounded by Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi and the front’s other leaders.

He said the pullout would become finalized in a week unless Maliki showed willingness to fulfill a list of 12 conditions that boil down to releasing thousands of detainees held in US and Iraqi prisons without charges, ending what the front considers the indiscriminate targeting of Sunnis.

Sami al-Askari, a parliamentarian and close adviser to Maliki, said all the accusations and demands by the Sunni bloc are merely a smoke screen for one thing: “Hashemi’s desire for more powers than what has been accorded to him under the Constitution.”

Mr. Askari accused the Sunni bloc of operating from the get-go more like opposition than a partner. Maliki and his Shiite allies have repeatedly charged that the Sunnis want to bring down the government and reverse the current political equation with the help of regional Sunni Arab powers Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Before the withdrawal of the Sunnis from the government, there had been efforts last week to contain the crisis, namely by resuscitating a proposal to create a coalition of so-called moderates to back the government and “isolate the extremists on both sides, Sunnis and Shiites,” according to Foreign Minister Zebari.

Robert Springborg, director of the Middle East Institute at the University of London, says the heart of the problem was that no one is truly committed to a strong and unified government.

“The actors involved have their own agendas, the central government and its resources are a tool for their own aspirations … none are committed to a government for all Iraqis,” he says.

Pointing to the growing disconnect between Washington and Baghdad, Askari, Maliki’s adviser, says, “Washington believes that passing the oil law will impact on reconciliation and the security situation. We beg to differ. This matters little to the armed groups that kill Iraqis every day. Their sole agenda is to reverse what we have achieved so far.”

Iraqi Resistance Report for events of Thursday, 26 July 2007

Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice

Thursday, 26 July 2007.

  • US admits Thursday that five more American troops had been killed in occupied Iraq in previous 24 hours.
  • Shi‘i sectarian murder spree continues: 18 more bodies found tortured, murdered in Baghdad.
  • Savage US air raid kills 15 civilians west of al-Mada’in at dawn Thursday.
  • Resistance bomb wounds two US troops in al-Jablah Thursday.
  • Iraqi Resistance car bomb wounds puppet soldiers in al-Ba‘aj Wednesday evening.
  • Ad-Dagharah, Resistance bomb kills five puppet “Interior Ministry Shock Troops” Thursday morning.
  • Former aide to Shi‘i sectarian religious authority gunned down in an-Najaf.

US admits Thursday that five more American troops had been killed in occupied Iraq in previous 24 hours.

In a dispatch posted at 8:38pm Makkah time Thursday night, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the US military had admitted on Thursday that another five of its occupation troops had died in Iraq in the previous 24 hours.

Mafkarat al-Islam reported the US as saying that three Marines and one sailor were killed in combat somewhere in Diyala Province. The Americans also announced that one more soldier was killed in a small arms attack to the south of Baghdad

Unexplained car bomb reportedly kills 20 in Baghdad’s al-Karradah district.

In a dispatch posted at 10:25pm Baghdad time Thursday night, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a car bomb exploded in the Baghdad district of al-Karradah on Thursday afternoon.

The AMSI reported a source in the puppet police as saying that the blast killed 20 people and wounded 60 more.

US, puppet forces raid Baghdad district, abduct seven local residents.

In a dispatch posted at 1:40pm Baghdad time Thursday afternoon, the Association of Muslim Scholars of Iraq (AMSI) reported that a joint force of American troops and puppet “Iraqi National Guards” raided Place 883 in the ad-Dubbat neighborhood of the al-Jihad section of Baghdad at 2am local time shortly after midnight Thursday morning.

The AMSI reported that the Americans and their puppet allies arrested seven local people. Relatives of the abducted men said that one of the captives was mentally ill. They said that the US and puppet troops raided the area, which is constantly the target of attacks by Shi‘i sectarian militias with the backing of American and puppet Iraqi regime troops.

Local residents told AMSI that the puppet “Interior Ministry” troops told them that their district was going to be targeted for revenge because of their well-know rejection of the US occupation. The puppet troops told the local residents that they should expect to be “hit hard” by the Americans and their puppet allies.

Sh‘i sectarian murder spree continues: 18 more bodies found tortured, murdered in Baghdad.

In a dispatch posted on its website Thursday, Quds Press reported that the Iraqi puppet police retrieved the bodies of 18 more victims of Shi‘i sectarian torture and murder that had been dumped in various parts of Baghdad.

The puppet police announced that the bodies were bound and blindfolded and bore signs of sever torture – a trademark of the Shi‘i sectarian militias and the US-backed puppet security forces, most of whose members are drawn from the sectarian militias.

The latest batch of bodies brings to 461 the official number of sectarian torture, murder victims found this month in Baghdad.

The Shi‘i sectarian militias are engaged in a massive campaign to drive Sunnis out of vast swaths of Baghdad and central and southern Iraq in preparation for the implementation of US and Zionist plans to partition Iraq on sectarian lines.

Efforts to split Iraq along religious and ethnic lines are part of the plans that US and Zionist politicians have long been cultivating with a view to fragmenting the Arab region.

The idea of “the dissolution of Iraq into a Shi‘ite state, a Sunni state and the separation of the Kurdish part” was voiced by veteran Zionist military correspondent Ze’ev Schiff in Ha’aretz on 2 June 1982 and was a part of the divide-and-rule strategy laid out by Zionist writer Oded Yinon in his “Strategy for Israel in the 1980s,” published in Kivunim (Directions), A Journal for Judaism and Zionism, published by the World Zionist Organization in occupied Jerusalem in February 1982. (It was translated by the late anti-Zionist writer and activist Israel Shahak and is widely available.)

The idea of splitting the Shi‘ah in Iraq from the rest of the country was a cornerstone of the neo-Conservative strategy laid out in “A Clean Break” a paper drawn up by American Zionist government officials Richard Perle, Douglas Feith, David Wurmser, and Paul Wolfowitz in 1996 for the then Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Then in 2000 the neo-Conservative Project for a New American Century wrote Rebuilding America’s Defenses on the basis of the “Clean Break.”

The American version of the strategy for a partition of Iraq appeared in the article “The Three-State Solution” published in The New York Times on 25 November 2003 by Leslie Gelb (President Emeritus of the US Council on Foreign Relations). The same idea was reiterated, this time with “bi-partisan support” in the article by Gelb and US Democratic Senator Joseph Biden in “Unity through Autonomy in Iraq,” in The New York Times on 1 May 2006.

Then on 8 October 2006 the London Sunday Times reported that the partition of Iraq along religious and ethnic lines was one of the suggestions that the Baker-Hamilton commission was advancing.
