Hatred of America unites the world

By Niall Ferguson, Sunday Telegraph

Last Updated: 12:01am GMT 25/02/2007

Being hated is no fun. Few of us are like those pantomime villains who glory in the hisses and boos of an audience. And few people hate being hated more than Americans. I wish I had a dollar for every time I’ve been asked the plaintive question: “Why do they hate us?” and another for each of the different answers I’ve heard. It’s because of our foreign policy. It’s because of their extremism. It’s because of our arrogance. It’s because of their inferiority complex. Americans really hate not knowing why they’re hated.

The best explanation is in fact the simplest. Being hated is what happens to dominant empires. It comes – sometimes literally – with the territory. George Orwell knew the feeling. As a young man he served as an assistant police superintendent in British-run Burma, an experience he memorably described in his essay “Shooting an Elephant”. Called upon to kill a rogue pachyderm that had run amok, Orwell was suddenly aware “of the watchful yellow faces behind” him:

“The sole thought in my mind was that if anything went wrong those two thousand Burmans would see me pursued, caught, trampled on and reduced to a grinning corpse like that Indian up the hill. And if that happened it was quite probable that some of them would laugh.” Read the rest of this entry »

Is there something called “Moderate” Taliban?

Roads to Iraq

Ocotber 29, 2008

Al-Quds Al-Arabi editorial today agrees with MofA:

Out of the sudden we hear an American official saying that his country is ready to talk with the “moderate” Taliban. There are no “Moderates” and “Extremists” inside Taliban, the whole country is united against the U.S. and the government brought by the U.S.

Interventionism, Not Muslims, Is the Problem

Interventionism, Not Muslims, Is the Problem
by Jacob G. Hornberger

Monday, October 27, 2008

One of the popular post-9/11 sentiments has been the one that holds that Muslims are bent on conquering the world. The notion is that Muslims hate Christianity and Western freedom and values and that such hatred is rooted in the Koran and stretches back centuries. Thus, the United States has been drawn, reluctantly, into a war against Muslims. That’s why U.S. forces are in Iraq and Afghanistan, the argument goes — to defend our freedoms by killing Muslims over there before they get over here and kill us.

I sometimes wonder whether the people who have this mindset have reflected on the ramifications of their belief.

For example, if Muslims in general are at war with the United States, then why shouldn’t Americans be out killing Muslims here in the United States? After all, when a nation is at war, isn’t it permissible to kill the enemy? Isn’t that what war is all about?

The reason that proponents of this view don’t start killing Muslims here in the United States is very simple: Deep down, they know that the killers will be indicted by their very own government for murder. They will then be prosecuted, convicted, and sentenced to serve time in a federal penitentiary for murder. Read the rest of this entry »

An ‘Iraqi Mother holding her son… in his last moments…

Killed by the Americans.

The same fools who say they are bringing peace and stability into ‘Iraaq.

Many Americans don’t know what it’s like to have a love one die in their arms after they are shot by a treacherous occupier that laughs at civilians who are nearly killed.

ITALIAN SAYS 9-11 SOLVED
It’s common knowledge, he reveals, CIA, Mossad behind terror attacks

By the Staff of American Free Press

Former Italian President Francesco Cossiga, who revealed the existence of Operation Gladio, has told Italy’s oldest and most widely read newspaper that the 9-11 terrorist attacks were run by the CIA and Mossad, and that this was common knowledge among global intelligence agencies. In what translates awkwardly into English, Cossiga told the newspaper Corriere della Sera:

“All the [intelligence services] of America and Europe…know well that the disastrous attack has been planned and realized from the Mossad, with the aid of the Zionist world in order to put under accusation the Arabic countries and in order to induce the western powers to take part … in Iraq [and] Afghanistan.”

Was America Attacked by Muslims on 9/11?

Posted by musliminsuffer on October 30, 2008

=== News Update ===

Much of America’s foreign policy since 9/11 has been based on the assumption that it was attacked by Muslims on that day. This assumption was used, most prominently, to justify the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. It is now widely agreed that the use of 9/11 as a basis for attacking Iraq was illegitimate: none of the hijackers were Iraqis, there was no working relation between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden, and Iraq was not behind the anthrax attacks. But it is still widely believed that the US attack on Afghanistan was justified. For example, the New York Times, while referring to the US attack on Iraq as a “war of choice,” calls the battle in Afghanistan a “war of necessity.” Time magazine has dubbed it “the right war.” And Barack Obama says that one reason to wind down our involvement in Iraq is to have the troops and resources to “go after the people in Afghanistan who actually attacked us on 9/11.”

A visit from CSIS on 9/11

Ahmad Abou El Maati’s 31-page account of his investigation and detention indicates he was visited at his home by Canadian intelligence agents within hours of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. He says the agents asked questions about a map of an Ottawa government complex discovered in his truck when he was searched crossing the Canada-U.S. border a month earlier. He says veiled threats were uttered during the visit.  Read the rest of this entry »

The judgment of history may well be that the United States has been “taken into, and kept in, the Iraq War by a guy who is not quite right in his head,” a distinguished legal scholar says.

“It may take 25 or 50 years, but it is almost certain that one day this character will be exhibit number one for the danger of having a nut job in the oval office,” says Lawrence Velvel, dean of the Massachusetts School of Law at Andover. Read the rest of this entry »

The Grand Illusion of American Power

The Grand Illusion of American Power

By H.D.S. Greeway

October 21, 2008 – “

Boston Globe” — THE OTHER DAY I went to hear my favorite soldier-scholar, Andrew Bacevich, give a talk at Boston University, where he teaches. A retired colonel and Vietnam veteran, Bacevich’s new book is called “The Limits of Power, The end of American Exceptionalism.”

Bacevich has migrated from a conservative outlook to what might be called a neo-Niebuhrean position – his thinking being influenced by the theologian Reinhold Niebuhr, whom Bacevich calls “the most clear-eyed of American prophets.”

Niebuhr warned against “dreams of managing history,” a combination of arrogance and narcissism that posed a moral threat. That’s why Niebuhr is often held in contempt by neo-conservatives for whom power is everything. Bacevich’s concern is that the dream has become a physical threat that could lead to America’s inevitable decline.

The Afghan People Prefer To Live Under The Taliban

Prisoner Of Joy

October 20, 2008

Porak, Afghanistan – After a gang of bandits continuously terrorized the district of Porak last month, the villagers could not stand it any longer.

“We complained several times to the government and even showed them where the thieves lived,” Ahmad, a local resident said.

But those bandits are still operating freely. So the resident of Porak began to turn to the Taliban to raise their complaints. In no time Taliban fighters showed up. They tried and convicted the gangsters and threatened harsher punishments should they be caught stealing again. The bandits have not showed up since then.
