Interesting list: people with dual Israeli/US citizenship

Posted in Bush Administration, Government tagged at 2:59 pm by LeisureGuy

UPDATE: After being challenged by RM Rich in the comments below, I’ve not been able to find an authoritative source for the authenticity of the list. I did check Snopes.com, of course, but the list is also not listed as an urban legend. Rich says he called two of the people on the list (which two he doesn’t say), and they denied holding dual citizenship at this time. So the accuracy of the list is questionable—as evidenced by the fact that it’s been questioned. So far as the possibility: it is indeed possible (legal, allowable) for people to hold dual citizenship in the US, not only with Israel but with other countries as well. (See this page, which requires IE Tab if you’re using Firefox.) As you will see, quite a few countries allow dual national/US citizenship, though the “official U.S. policy has been to discourage the incidence of dual nationality. The Government accepts but does not recognize or approve of dual nationality. The Government accepts it: “only as the result of separate conflicting laws of other countries.” ” So the list’s interest diminishes considerably.

The Only Nation That Can Do No Wrong

By Jim Taylor

Four years ago, on December 26, the day after Christmas, a massive tsunami hit the shores of the Indian Ocean.

This year, on December 26, a different kind of tsunami hit the shores of the Mediterranean Sea – a tsunami of bombs and missiles. On that day, according to the Jerusalem Post, Israel sent at least 100 fighter jets and helicopters, over 200 bombs and missiles, to destroy more than 170 targets in the tiny coastal strip known as Gaza, home to about 1.5 million Palestinians.

I must admit, this is a column I didn’t want to write. I’ve already lived through one experience of being targeted by those who believe Israel can do no wrong. Indeed, all through this last week, I listened hungrily to news reports hoping that some other disaster would surface that I could write about instead. It didn’t happen.

Why is it that every government in the world is fair game for critical comment – except one? Call China ruthless; describe Zimbabwe as a madhouse governed by a lunatic; ridicule the intellectual shortcomings of George W. Bush – and that’s a legitimate exercise of free speech.

But criticize Israel, and it’s racism.

Global Human Rights Groups Protest Slaughter in Gaza

Global Human Rights Groups Protest Slaughter in Gaza

Stephen Lendman

Jan 5, 2009

On June 16, 2008, noted Israeli historian Ilan Pappe explained “The Israeli Recipe for 2008: Genocide in Gaza, Ethnic Cleaning in the West Bank.” He wrote:

“Not long ago, I claimed that Israel is employing genocidal policies in the Gaza Strip.” After re-thinking this highly-charged term, he “concluded with even stronger conviction: it is the only appropriate way to describe what the Israeli army is doing in Gaza” because of its repeated atrocities now greater than ever.

In his January 3 “Israel’s Righteous Fury and Its Victims in Gaza” article, Pappe updates his outrage:

Once again, “Israel is engulfed….with righteous fury that translates into destructive policy in the Gaza Strip. This appalling self-justification for the inhumanity and impunity….is based first and foremost on sheer lies transmitted with a newspeak reminiscent of (Nazi Germany). Every half an hour,” radio and TV bulletins call Gaza victims “terrorists and Israel’s massive (slaughter) self-defense.”

Israel collaborator recruiter punked

Transcript, The Electronic Intifada,

bnn-prank.jpg
The flyer sent to The Electronic Intifada.Jan 5, 2009In addition to bombs and missiles that have killed an ever increasing number of Palestinian civilians, Israel has dropped millions of flyers on the occupied, besieged Gaza Strip.

One such flyer, an image of which was sent to The Electronic Intifada, seeks to recruit Palestinian collaborators. Signed by the “Israel Defense Forces command,” and addressed to the “the residents of the Gaza Strip,” the flyer states: “You hold the responsibility for your own fate!” It invites Palestinians to call or email the Israeli army “to inform us about the location of rocket launching sites and the terrorist gangs that made you hostages of their actions.” Because collaboration with an occupier is universally viewed as one of the worst forms of betrayal, the flyer warns “For your own safety, please maintain secrecy when you call us.”

EI decided to call the number provided. What follows is a translation of the Arabic conversation between an EI editor and an Israeli officer who identifed himself using the Arabic name “Abu Ibrahim.”

Israel has used cash, but has sometimes attempted to blackmail desperately sick Palestinians by witholding access to medical care unless they collaborate. Israel may also hope that the humanitarian catastrophe it has deliberately created in the Gaza Strip will make Palestinians more vulnerable to this kind of exploitation.

Breaking news: Resistance in Gaza lures Israeli special unit, kills 3 and injures 30 occupation soldiers

Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine

Jan 5,2009

The Palestinian resistance in Gaza lured an Israeli special forces unit into an empty house at approximately 10 PM Palestine time on January 5, 2009. The house had been packed with explosives by resistance fighters, and once the special forces unit had been lured into the house, the resistance fighters exited, detonating the house and killing 3 occupation soldiers and wounding 30.

As a result of this operation, the ground troops of the enemy pulled back 1 km and enemy airstrikes on the area have escalated, in an attempt to destroy the widest area around the house.

Palestinian resistance in Rafah also reported downing a “zanana,” an unmanned surveillance drone used by the occupation forces to target sites for airstrikes and bombing.

In addition, the Palestinian resistance continued to launch missiles despite the massive enemy invasion. 45 missiles were launched into the occupation on January 5, including a Grad missile that reached its furthest destination to date, past Ashdud.

Also, the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, reported on January 5, 2009 that it, along with other Palestinian resistance groups, was currently engaged in heavy clashes with occupation forces east of Gaza as of 10 PM Palestine time. The clashes are spread throughout the area and are continuing.

Why Hamas (and Hizbullah) Will be Difficult to Defeat

Why Hamas (and Hizbullah) Will be Difficult to Defeat

By: Rami G. Khouri on: 06.01.2009 [10:22 ]

Hamas and Hizbullah are the ideological step-children of the Likud Party and Ariel Sharon, and they are movements which fill the vacuum created by failed secular governing entities that have been inept, often corrupt, and sometimes Israeli puppets, says Rami G. Khouri.

BEIRUT — Many analogies are being made between the ongoing Israeli attack against Hamas in Gaza and the 2006 war between Israel and Hizbullah in Lebanon. Here are the most important ones, in my view.

The first is about provenance: Hamas and Hizbullah did not exist before around 1982. Their birth and strength must be understood largely as a response to Israel’s occupation and colonization policies in Palestine and Lebanon, alongside other secondary reasons.

Hamas and Hizbullah are the ideological step-children of the Likud Party and especially Ariel Sharon, whose embrace of violence, racism and colonization as the primary means of dealing with occupied Arab populations ultimately generated a will to resist. The trio currently carrying on Sharon’s legacy of brutality — Ehud Olmert, Ehud Barak and Tzipi Livni — seem genetically blind to the fact that the more force and brutality Israel uses against Arabs, the greater is the response in the form of more effective resistance movements that have wider public support.

January 6, 2009

MORE than 100 Australian Jews, including two award-winning novelists and a former federal cabinet minister, have signed a statement condemning Israel’s siege of Gaza, heightening tensions within the local Jewish community over the violence.

The Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, meanwhile called yesterday for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza but refused to criticise the Israeli offensive.

US troops ‘monitoring Rafah crossing’

Mon, 05 Jan 2009 19:17:54 GMT

US troops are helping Egypt prevent “arms smuggling” from tunnels in the Rafah border-crossing, as Israel continues its attacks on Gaza.

NBC anchorwoman and chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell said Sunday that US military officers from the Corps of Engineers had been stationed on the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing in order to prevent “arms smuggling from illegal tunnels” by Palestinian fighters.

“ And there are US Army Corps of Engineer personnel on the ground right now on the Egypt side looking at the tunnels to see how Egypt could be reassured that there won’t be continued smuggling through on that,” she said on Meet the Press.

Roots of Israel’s violence

=== News Update ===

Roots of Israel’s violence

(3 July 1982)

The Israeli state is engaged in brutal violence against the Palestinian population and has killed hundreds of Palestinians over the past few months. In 1982 revolutionary socialist Tony Cliff, who died a year ago this month, wrote this explanation of why Israel acts in this way. He was writing just after Israel had invaded Lebanon and carried out massacres of both Lebanese and refugee Palestinians.

Looking back on my own experience in Palestine I can see how today’s horror grew from small beginnings. Zionism, Jewish separateness and the belief in a Jewish homeland, have developed into state violence. My parents were pioneering Zionists, leaving Russia for Palestine in 1902 to join a total Zionist population of a few thousand.

We’re All War Criminals Now

Silence is Complicity

We’re All War Criminals Now

By Joe Mowrey

January 05, 2009 “Information Clearinghouse” — In response to the current brutal assault on Gaza by Israel a well-known long distance service provider has sponsored a petition for their customers to sign urging a cease fire. On the face of it, this seems like a noble endeavor. The company in question caters to the progressive community and donates a portion of its fees to a wide array of progressive organizations. One could take issue with the fact that this company aligns itself with a notorious international banking cartel to provide credit card services to its customers. But what is interesting to note is how the language in the email which introduces the petition, whether intentionally or not, promotes the usual pro-Zionist narrative about the situation.

First there is the all too familiar contention that “the political and historical conflict causing this violence is centuries old and far too complicated to address….” We are supposed to believe that the situation is so complex the average person can’t be bothered to try and understand it. So the only reasonable thing to do is to accept the sound bite version offered to us by the media. This is usually some form of pro-Zionist rhetoric centered around an Israeli perspective.

An Homage to the Martyred Palestinian Child

With this fathomless grace, with this blissful face,

To the dead human conscience, you have given a blow;

You have shamed   your killers and their lethal bullets,

From your divine smile, the meanings   of the death flow.

For those who want to   have the breaths of free air,

You have defined life   in its brightest   colour   and form;

You have left a legacy, Oh my dear bravest child !

Which will throw back   the force of   every storm.

The Last Phase Of Arab Shame

=== News Update ===

The Last Phase Of Arab Shame

by Shaykh Dr. Abdalqadir as-Sufi

Israel.

The last line of Curzio Malaparte’s “the Skin” is:

“ I said in a low voice, ‘It is a shameful thing to win a war.’ ”

Victory in modern warfare is both a shame and a defeat. The defeated demand rehabilitation, reward, revitalisation. The victors are bankrupted, exhausted, and leaderless – their generals useless in peace. After World War Two it is Germany and Japan who emerge defeated then triumphant.

Today Israel is a victor. Absolute and unrelenting. Unconditional surrender.

Israel is not a democracy. It is a military dictatorship. From its inception it has been a one-party state. A coalition is a unitary government. To function it needs war. Its political discourse, vibrant with a psychosis of persecution transmitted from Hitlerite genocide, claims itself to be a victim state surrounded by a ferocious enemy dedicated, like Nazi Germany, to its elimination. In reality it knows that without its massive defence subsidy from the U.S.A. it could not last one financial year. Accused of building an Apartheid wall to keep out Palestinians it dare not deny it. Why? Because the wall was never intended to keep them out. It was built to keep the Israelis in. Israel is a national ghetto.

Arab Collaborators of Israel*

=== News Update ===

Arab Collaborators of Israel*

Joseph Massad – Jan 5, 2009

One is often baffled by the ironies of international relations and the alliances they foster. Take for example the Israeli colonial settlement that had declared war on the Palestinian people and several Arab countries since its inception while at the same time it built alliances with many Arab regimes and with Palestinian leaders.

While Hashemite-Zionist relations and Maronite Church-Zionist relations have always been known and documented, there has been less documentation of the services that Israel has provided and continues to provide to Arab regimes over the decades. It is now recognized that Israel’s 1967 invasion of Egypt aimed successfully to destroy Gamal Abdul-Nasser, the enemy of all US dictatorial allies among the Arab regimes, whom the US and before it Britain and France had tried to topple since the 1950s but failed. Israel thus rendered a great service to Arab monarchies (and a few republics) from “the ocean to the Gulf,” whose survival was threatened by Nasser and Nasserism. Israel’s subsequent intervention in Jordan in 1970 to help the Jordanian army destroy Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) guerrillas and its final crushing of that organization in its massive invasions of Lebanon in 1978 and 1982 were also important services it rendered to these same regimes threatened by the PLO’s “revolutionary” potential and its sometimes recalcitrant positions. Israeli intelligence has also provided over the decades crucial information to several Arab regimes enabling them to crush their political opposition and strengthen their dictatorial rule. Prominent examples among recipients of Israeli intelligence largesse include the Moroccan and the Omani dictatorships.
