Ketika Tuhan Disingkirkan

Ketika wahyu disingkirkan, maka akal kemudian dituhankan. Rasionalisme menjadi pedoman.

(Lihat, Marvin Perry, Western Civilization A Brief History, 1997).

Islamisasi

Pernyataan Baiquni sejalan dengan apa kata R. Hooykaas dalam Religion and T he Rise of Mo dern Science.

Inilah…

Mencari Tafsir Versi Indonesia ?

Thursday, February 28, 2008

Dampak Negatif Reformasi Terhadap Paham Keagamaan

Written by Administrator

9/11 Update: Time for a second look in Lucerne

Report for our English speaking friends:

On the May 7 Professor David Ray Griffin came to Lucerne Switzerland on his tour through Europe that took him to Paris, Brussels and Madrid, and several other cities for an evening under the motto: “9/11 Time for a second look”.

As leading figure in the world wide 9/11 truth movement it was an honour to welcome him and listen to his speech live and in person. At the same time I grabbed the opportunity because of the currentness of the topic and also invited Professor Dr. Niels Harrit to our event, who published together with eight other scientists their paper about nano-thermite that they found in the dust of ground zero. That both respected personalities would inform us in the same evening was a special experience.

redactedThey must be horrific. So violent, in fact, so obscene, so counter to even the basic tenets of human decency that President Barack Obama sought today to block the release of hundreds of photos showing prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan being abused, violated, tortured. He ordered this reversal of his position – he had been in favor of the decision to release this further evidence of war crimes committed under orders from George W. Bush and Dick Cheney – after military commanders warned that the images could inflame anti-American sentiment and endanger U.S. troops. Former Republican presidential candidate Gary Bauer believes it’s okay for follower of Jesus to torture

The torture debate has led to much evangelical soul-searching, the Associated Press reports, and has “prompted introspection about faith, ethics, the Golden Rule, just wars, Jack Bauer and Jesus.”

A number of evangelical leaders have made opposition to torture without exceptions a moral cause over the past three years, part of a broadening of the movement’s agenda beyond traditional culture war issues. Others in the movement, including many Christian right leaders, have largely resisted or stayed silent.

Now, President Barack Obama’s release of Bush administration memos justifying harsh interrogation techniques and a new poll showing white evangelicals more sympathetic to torture have leaders taking stock of whether evangelical opinion has shifted on the topic.

“I have said before that torture is like a bone caught in our throat — we can’t swallow it and we can’t spit it out,” said David Gushee, a professor of Christian ethics at Mercer University in Atlanta and president of Evangelicals for Human Rights. “I think we’re still there.”

Only one in eight (90%) terror arrests result in conviction

Only one in eight suspects arrested for terrorism offences is actually convicted, according to new statistics.

By Duncan Gardham, Security Correspondent

Last Updated: 4:42PM BST 13 May 2009

The figures, released by the Home Office for the first time show that only 23 per cent of those arrested since September 2001 were charged with terrorist-related offences and only 13 per cent convicted.

The Home Office statistics show that 56 per cent of the 1,471 arrested were released without charge and 42 per cent of those charged were never convicted.

Only six of those arrested for terrorism offences were held for the maximum 28 days permitted since July 2006 and only three charged, while 66 per cent were released or charged within two days.

Baroness Neville-Jones, shadow security minister, used the opportunity to call for phone-tap evidence to be allowed in court.

“Whilst the number of arrests increased in 2007/8, the number of people charged dropped by a quarter,” she said. “One of the most powerful deterrents to terrorism is successful prosecution and imprisonment.

“The Government needs to allow intercept evidence in court so that real terrorists don’t get let off for lack of admissible evidence.”

Barack Obama – Mass Murderer

Barack Obama – Mass Murderer

by Dan Spielberg
by Dan Spielberg

“The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their right names”

~ Chinese Proverb

If you are a poor, hapless Afghan civilian whose family’s bodies were ripped apart by U.S. bombs, does it really make a difference to you if the air “strikes” were ordered by the Moron from Texas, George W Bush, or the Agent of Change, Barack Obama? I would think not. If you were a Pakistani civilian whose village had been bombed by the U.S. would your heart be comforted by the fact that the mad bombers have a new, young, hip “Commander-in-Chief” who makes funny jokes to all the stenographers known as “The Washington Press Corps”? I sincerely doubt that as well.

Barack Obama sold himself to the country as someone who would bring massive “change” to the policies of the U.S. government, but of course when it comes to the favorite activity of that cancerous organism, warring against wholly innocent civilian populations in foreign countries, there will be no change. In fact, even the pleas of the President of the supposedly free and democratic country of Afghanistan are meaningless in the face of the U.S. government’s desire to enforce its will on as much of the Earth as possible. I wonder if Americans would feel like they lived in a “free democracy” if the U.S. was occupied by a foreign military power that regularly killed our people and refused to stop? A power that calls refraining from murder as fighting with “one hand tied behind our back” as White House “National Security” Advisor James Jones recently did? I am pretty sure they emphatically would NOT.

EXCLUSIVE - List of 140 Afghan dead includes 93 children
Reuters – Villagers look at the destruction caused after air strikes in Ganj Abad of Bala Buluk district, Farah …

KABUL (Reuters) – Ninety-three children and 25 adult women are among a list of 140 names of Afghans who villagers say were killed in a battle and U.S. air strikes last week, causing a crisis between Washington and its Afghan allies.

The list, obtained by Reuters, bears the endorsement of seven senior provincial and central government officials, including an Afghan two-star general who headed a task force dispatched by the government to investigate the incident.

Titled “list of the martyrs of the bombardment of Bala Boluk district of Farah Province“, it includes the name, age and father’s name of each alleged victim.

The youngest was listed as 8-day-old baby Sayed Musa, son of Sayed Adam. Fifty-three victims were girls under the age of 18, and 40 were boys. Only 22 were men 18 or older.

Pentagon Understates War Casualties, Says Veterans Group

click here for related stories: democracy matters

7-05-07, 10:43 am

The Pentagon is intentionally underreporting US casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to a recent report by veterans’ advocacy group Veterans for Common Sense.

The Pentagon’s most recent public reports, which can be found in the media, say that 3,587 US troops have been killed and 26,350 have been wounded in Iraq.

In Afghanistan, says the Pentagon, 403 US troops have been killed since 2001, and 1,342 have been wounded.

Thus, the Pentagon’s public accounting gives the impression that there have been less than 32,000 casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But documents obtained by Veterans for Common Sense through Freedom of Information Act requests reveal the number of casualties to be much higher.

According to these documents, as of June 30, 2007, US casualties in Afghanistan totaled closer to 7,500 (killed, wounded, injured, and medically evacuated). In Iraq, the total is almost 58,000.

Altogether, the report shows that US casualties in Afghanistan and Iraq, between 2001 and June 30, 2007, total 65,278. There is a difference between the Pentagon’s publicized casualty reports and reality of almost 34,000.

In the month of June alone, despite a surge ordered by President Bush last January to crack down on the civil war in Iraq, total US casualties mounted to over 1,660 killed, wounded, and medically evacuated.

Veterans for Common Sense attributes the discrepancy to the Pentagon’s refusal to include medically evacuated troops for injuries and illnesses in its “wounded” reports.

The purpose of this new distinction is to lower the numbers in Pentagon casualties reports in order to give the impression that “progress” in the war is being made and that harm to US forces inflicted in the war zone is far lower than reality, states Veterans for Common Sense.

These revelations come on the heels of another recent Veterans for Common Sense report indicating that about 180,000 war veterans have filed disability claims with the Department of Veterans’ Affairs since 2001.

Taliban are growing in strength in Kandahar

Kabul // The Taliban are gaining strength in Kandahar province, their southern heartland, as frustration with the US-led occupation and state corruption mounts, local politicians have warned.

As 21,000 extra American troops begin to arrive in the country and the fighting season gets firmly underway, there is real concern among Afghans on the front line that violence will escalate.

Speaking during a visit to Kabul, a delegation of provincial council members and other community leaders from Kandahar said the insurgency was winning over many Afghans disaffected with life under foreign occupation.

“The main reason the situation is getting worse is because of two kinds of people. The first used to be Talibs but when the new government came they stopped and went home. Then their houses were searched, they got upset and they rejoined the Taliban. The second are very religious and they just don’t like the government,” said Haji Niamatullah Khan Shirdali, a member of the provincial council.

Taliban bombs US base near Khost

A witness said the explosion happened as the labourers were going to work

At least nine Afghans waiting for work at a US military base have been killed in a Taliban suicide attack near the city of Khost.

More than 20 people were hurt when the bomber detonated a car filled with explosives outside Camp Salerno in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Miakhall, a witness, told Al Jazeera: “There was a white car next to us and we were going to work in the base. Suddenly the explosion happened.

“People were running away. I saw lots of injuries and dead. After a while the military came and took the seriously wounded inside the base.”

The attack came a day after Taliban fighters created chaos in the centre of Khost, seizing government buildings for several hours.

Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr, reporting from the Afghan capital, Kabul, said Wednesday’s attack was the third outside Camp Salerno in recent months.

“The Taliban have claimed responsibility and, according to the Taliban, they killed a large number of foreign and Afghan forces.”

“A US spokesman tells us the Taliban ‘dreams of entering the base, but all they’re doing is killing Afghans’.”

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, May 13 (UPI) — Taliban militants set fire to 10 NATO supply terminals Wednesday in northwest Pakistan, local officials said.

They said the attack near Peshawar, capital of violence-wracked North-West Frontier province, was launched by about 70 Taliban fighters, resulting in a gun fight with police, CNN reported quoting the police.

There were no casualties reported.

The province, near the border with Afghanistan, has become the focus of the recent fighting between Pakistani forces and the militants.

The militants in the area also have been targeting convoys carrying food and supplies from Pakistan to NATO-led troops in Afghanistan.

The real vs fake Taliban

=== News Update ===

The real vs fake Taliban

By Nauman Qaiser

May 13, 2009

The recent threats to young girls – be it outside Park Tower in Karachi, any place where the elite class studies in Lahore, works or hangs out in the urban centres of the country – that they should cover themselves completely and shun western dress, else their faces would be defaced beyond recognition point to the glaring fact that the religious bigots who call themselves “Taliban” are not only at our door steps, but are here to stay. In the meanwhile, the number of terrorism-related incidents in the country, where the prime targets are the personnel of various security agencies besides hundreds of innocent civilians, are increasing day by day. Where does all of this take us?

To answer this question, we must first analyse the primacy of these so-called Taliban, who are known by name of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and are lead by an ever-elusive Baitullah Mehsud. The common perception, which was recently reiterated after my discussion with an activist of a youth-based organisation that staged a protest demonstration in Lahore against the drone attacks, is that the group of Taliban led by Baitullah Mehsud is an outgrowth or a subsidiary of the Taliban fighting the American forces in Afghanistan, and is, therefore, an antithesis of America and its imperialistic policies in the region. On my suggestion that they should, after the successful demonstration against the drone attacks, stage a protest demonstration against TTP and the extremism spawn by it, the activist was of the view that since Taliban and America are each other’s sworn enemies, a protest against Taliban would favour and please America and its agenda in the region, which their youth organisation wouldn’t want.

This is where the whole problem lies; we haven’t, as yet, been able to differentiate between what I call the “real” Taliban who solely focus on fighting the occupation forces in Afghanistan, and the “fake” Taliban, who are working on a hidden agenda of the United States and its ally, India, to disintegrate Pakistan. I call them fake, because it was during Musharraf’s nine-year rule, whilst we considered ourselves an American ally, that the secret agencies of United States, India, Britain and Afghanistan established their hold throughout the length and breadth of Pakistan by setting up an extensive espionage network of their own, which recruited and subsequently released thousands of trained operatives garbed in the cloths of “Taliban” into the Pakistani territory.
