In January 2003, in the months leading up to the war on Iraq, TONY BENN gave a list of questions that neither Bush nor Blair would answer…

President Bush announced that his patience was exhausted and made it clear that he was determined to go to war, while, in London, the Prime Minister echoed the same message, but in slightly more conciliatory language.

We therefore must expect an attack, probably next month, against the opposition of an international peace campaign that has transformed public opinion and cannot be ignored.

For what we are being told by the White House and Downing Street is simply not true. This can be easily demonstrated by asking simple questions that have not been and cannot be answered.

1. Why has the tragedy on September 11 2001, which was about terrorism, for which Osama bin Laden was blamed, now been replaced by the demand for a war against Iraq, for which no evidence has been produced, suggesting that it was involved in that attack?

BERLIN – An international watchdog group says Afghanistan remains the world’s second most corrupt country, and Iraq is not far behind.

The annual report of Transparency International found Somalia to be most corrupt country, followed by Afghanistan tied with Myanmar, and then Iraq.

Denmark, New Zealand and Singapore tied for first place as the most principled nations.

Of the 178 countries surveyed about public sector corruption, nearly three quarters fell below an index score of five on a scale where zero is the most corrupt and 10 is the least.

The group said Tuesday the overall results show that greater efforts must go into strengthening governance across the globe.

PESHAWAR: At least 1,863 people have been killed so far in 184 attacks by the United States drones in Pakistani territory since June 18, 2004, official sources disclosed on Tuesday.

There has been an unprecedented surge in the drone attacks during the current year.

A total of 749 people have been killed in 89 attacks during 2010, according to the provincial home ministry sources in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial capital Peshawar.

The month of September witnessed the maximum number of attacks — 16 followed by 11 drone attacks in January.
