Instead of bringing him to justice it paid him for his services and helped him escape to South America.

Falluja may slip out of U.S. control : Victory for Iraq Muslim Resistance

Iraqi insurgents have intensified their attacks on U.S. targets inside the restive city of Falluja and the outlying villages and towns.

Daring attacks have taken U.S. troops aback in a city where the majority of its nearly 300,000 people are not happy with the presence of U.S. invaders.

Falluja has become a symbol of anti-U.S. resistance not only in Iraq but across most of the Arab and Muslim worlds.

Fallujah Fears a ‘Genocidal Strategy’

FALLUJAH, Mar 30 (IPS) – Iraqis in the volatile al-Anbar province west of Baghdad are reporting regular killings carried out by U.S. forces that many believe are part of a ‘genocidal’ strategy.

Since the mysterious explosion at the Shia al-Askari shrine in Samara in February last year, more than 100 Iraqis have been killed daily on average, without any forceful action by the Iraqi government and the U.S. military to stop the killings.

U.S. troops and Iraqi security forces working with them are also executing people seized during home raids and other operations, residents say.

Damascus— Fours years of occupation by Anglo-American forces in Iraq was marked in many countries around the world by massive demonstrations this past week. But as the occupation entered another year, Iraqis themselves did not demonstrate. In the country where democracy was promised, a sweeping emergency law, implemented in 2004, bans demonstrations in Iraq without government permission.

The Riyadh Summit

Al-Hayat leads its Riyadh-summit coverage with this:
High-level sources participating in the Arab solidarity summit that started yesterday in Riyadh told Al-Hayat that the summit “Launched a climate aimed at reclaiming Arab “qaraar” [word meaning in this case “firm decision-making power”], which in the past had been eroded in a way that led to a multiplication of foreign interventions and allowed the initiative to fall into non-Arab hands”. And the sources added: “Exchanges in the sessions and between sessions all indicated a common desire to regain the initiative in all of the open files, from Palestine to Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan and Somalia, and this involves unifying our discourse in addressing the great powers, and also in addressing the neighboring states.

What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom : “We Will Force You To Be Free”

Using violence, not simply as a means to achieve one’s goals, but also as an expression of freedom from Western bourgeois norms, was an idea developed by African revolutionary Franz Fanon. He developed it from the Existentialist ideology of Jean-Paul Sartre, who argued that terrorism was a “terrible weapon but the oppressed poor have no others.” (^ Sartre: The Philosopher of the Twentieth Century, Bernard-Henri Lévy, p.343). ) These views were expressed, for example, in the revolutionary film The Battle of Algiers

The War of Terror and the US “National Interest”

Why is it that US politicians feel compelled to appear before a small, delimited section of the United States and pronounce unwavering support for Israel — which is de facto support for ethnic cleansing and slow motion genocide? Deaths In Iraq Have Reached 1 Million : US WarCriminal

Grim claim on fourth anniversary of conflict. THE number of deaths in Iraq since the start of the conflict could be as high as one million, it was claimed yesterday.

On the fourth anniversary of the invasion by Allied troops, an Australian scientist insisted the true death toll dwarfed previous estimates. Dr Gideon Polya said: “Using the most comprehensive and authoritative literature and UN demographic data yields an estimate of one million post-invasion excess deaths in Iraq.”

His figure is far higher than the biggest previous estimate of 655,000.

A spokesman for the Stop The War Coalition said the figure was “astonishing”, adding: “Four years after the start of the conflict in Iraq, we can now see what a disaster the war has been.

“Everything we predicted would happen has taken place, but it has been far worse than we feared.”

One million post-invasion Iraqi excess deaths ignored – Silence of Mainstream media

MWC NEWS readers may have encountered a recent article of mine in which the post-invasion excess deaths (avoidable deaths, deaths that did not have to happen) in Occupied Iraq were estimated at 1 million (ONE MILLION). This estimate was based on the very latest medical literature and UN Population Division data sources that were carefully documented in the 2 February 2007 article.

Accordingly I have RE-CALCULATED the “post-invasion Iraqi excess deaths” as of March 2007, making 5 ESTIMATES using 4 INDEPENDENT SETS OF DATA as set out below. The key sources are UNICEF, the UN Population Division and scientific papers from the top US medical epidemiology group in the World’s top Public Health Department (the Bloomberg School of Public Health) at the top Johns Hopkins University and published peer-reviewed in the top medical journal The Lancet (for further details and detailed documentation of what follows see MWC News and HERE ):

The crime of being born Palestinian

Almost two weeks ago, my friend Dawud, a high school English teacher from Kufr ‘Ain, called me nearly in tears to report the checkpoint hold-up that had cost him his six-month-old son. Shortly after midnight on March 8th, my friend’s baby began having trouble breathing. His parents quickly got a taxi to take him to the nearest hospital in Ramallah, where they hoped to secure an oxygen tent, which had helped him recover from difficult respiratory episodes in the past. As the family was rushing from their Palestinian town in the West Bank to their Palestinian hospital in the West Bank, they were stopped at Atara checkpoint, where an Israeli soldier asked for the father’s, mother’s, and driver’s IDs. Dawud explained to the soldier that his son needed urgent medical care, but the soldier insisted on checking the three IDs first, a process that usually takes a few minutes. Dawud’s was the only car at the checkpoint in the middle of the night, yet the soldier held the three IDs for more than twenty minutes, even as Dawud and his wife began to cry, begging to be allowed through. After fifteen minutes, Dawud’s baby’s mouth began to overflow with liquid and my friend wailed at the soldier to allow them through, that his baby was dying. Instead, the soldier demanded to search the car, even after the IDs had been cleared. At 1:05am, six-month-old Khalid Dawud Fakaah died at Atara Checkpoint. As the soldier checked the car, he shined his flashlight on the dead child’s face and, realizing what had happened, finally returned the three ID cards and allowed the grieving family to pass.

RACIST SENTIMENTS ON THE RISE IN ISRAEL

It seems that anti Arab sentiments are on the rise in Israel. This according to a recent poll on whether or not the state should back Arab migration. Of 500 Israeli Jews polled, the results showed 50% were in favour of encouraged migration.

I find it amazing that there is no attempt made to hide these feelings. Israel is constantly denying that it is a racist state or a state that is implementing apartheid, but here is proof that those very policies are supported by half of the population.

It is a very sad commentary on the situation here and shows how much work is left to be done in this country to reverse this trend before it completely overtakes us.

Racism must be defeated through education. Ignorance leads to fear and fear leads to walls being built. Our work is cut out for us….

This article from HaAretz discusses the poll…

A monstrous war crime

With more than 650,000 civilians dead in Iraq, our government must take responsibility for its lies.

Our collective failure has been to take our political leaders at their word. This week the BBC reported that the government’s own scientists advised ministers that the Johns Hopkins study on Iraq civilian mortality was accurate and reliable, following a freedom of information request by the reporter Owen Bennett-Jones. This paper was published in the Lancet last October. It estimated that 650,000 Iraqi civilians had died since the American and British led invasion in March 2003.

Immediately after publication, the prime minister’s official spokesman said that the Lancet’s study “was not one we believe to be anywhere near accurate”. The foreign secretary, Margaret Beckett, said that the Lancet figures were “extrapolated” and a “leap”. President Bush said: “I don’t consider it a credible report”.

Scientists at the UK’s Department for International Development thought differently. They concluded that the study’s methods were “tried and tested”. Indeed, the Johns Hopkins approach would likely lead to an “underestimation of mortality”.

The Ministry of Defence’s chief scientific adviser said the research was “robust”, close to “best practice”, and “balanced”. He recommended “caution in publicly criticising the study”.

Why George Bush is Insane : War Criminal

The nightmare of American hysteria, ignorance, arrogance, stupidity and belligerence; the most powerful nation the world has ever known effectively waging war against the rest of the world. “If you are not with us you are against us” President Bush has said. He has also said “We will not allow the world’s worst weapons to remain in the hands of the world’s worst leaders”. Quite right. Look in the mirror chum. That’s you.

The US is at this moment developing advanced systems of “weapons of mass destruction” and it prepared to use them where it sees fit. It has more of them than the rest of the world put together. It has walked away from international agreements on biological and chemical weapons, refusing to allow inspection of its own factories. The hypocrisy behind its public declarations and its own actions is almost a joke.

The United States believes that the three thousand deaths in New York are the only deaths that count, the only deaths that matter. They are American deaths. Other deaths are unreal, abstract, of no consequence.

  • The three thousand deaths in Afghanistan are never referred to.
  • The hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children dead through US and British sanctions which have deprived them of essential medicines are never referred to.
  • The effect of depleted uranium, used by America in the Gulf War, is never referred to. Radiation levels in Iraq are appallingly high. Babies are born with no brain, no eyes, no genitals. Where they do have ears, mouths or rectums, all that issues from these orifices is blood.
  • The two hundred thousand deaths in East Timor in 1975 brought about by the Indonesian government but inspired and supported by the United States are never referred to.
  • The half a million deaths in Guatemala, Chile, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Uruguay, Argentina and Haiti, in actions supported and subsidised by the United States are never referred to.
  • The millions of deaths in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia are no longer referred to.
  • The desperate plight of the Palestinian people, the central factor in world unrest, is hardly referred to.

People do not forget. They do not forget the death of their fellows, they do not forget torture and mutilation, they do not forget injustice, they do not forget oppression, they do not forget the terrorism of mighty powers. They not only don’t forget. They strike back.

Rumsfeld torture suit dismissed : War Criminal

A US court has dismissed a lawsuit against former US defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld over claims prisoners were tortured in Iraq and Afghanistan. The court accepted that the nine men who sued had been tortured – and detailed the torture in its ruling. But Judge Thomas Hogan ruled the five Iraqis and four Afghans did not have US constitutional rights, and also that Mr Rumsfeld was immune from such suits.

Two human rights groups brought the suit against him and three officers. Judge Hogan threw out the claims against retired Lt Gen Ricardo Sanchez, the former commander of US military forces in Iraq, Col Thomas Pappas and former Brig Gen Janis Karpinski, both former commanders at Abu Ghraib prison.

Details of abuse – The nine men suffered abuse including being:

* hung upside-down and slapped until they lost consciousness
* stabbed with knives
* subjected to electric shocks
* deprived of sleep by loud noises and bright lights
* grabbed by aggressive dogs

They also were subjected to sexual humiliation. None was ever charged with a crime.

Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against Rumsfeld : War Criminal

Former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld cannot be tried on allegations of torture in overseas military prisons, a federal judge said Tuesday in a case he described as “lamentable.”

U.S. District Judge Thomas F. Hogan threw out a lawsuit brought on behalf of nine former prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan. He said Rumsfeld cannot be held personally responsible for actions taken in connection with his government job.

The lawsuit contends the prisoners were beaten, suspended upside down from the ceiling by chains, urinated on, shocked, sexually humiliated, burned, locked inside boxes and subjected to mock executions.

Lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union and Human Rights First had argued that Rumsfeld and top military officials disregarded warnings about the abuse and authorized the use of illegal interrogation tactics that violated the constitutional and human rights of prisoners.

Hogan appeared conflicted during arguments last year. On one hand, he said he was hesitant to allow allegations of torture to go unheard. On the other hand, he said the case was unprecedented.

American Kangaroo Court Claims Its First Victim : Dictatorship

It is appropriate that a person from Australia, home of the kangaroo, should be the first one dragged before the kangaroo court at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay. David Hicks, imprisoned there for more than five years, pleaded guilty Monday to providing material support for terrorism.

The case of Hicks offers us a glimpse into the Kafkaesque netherworld of detentions, kidnappings, torture and show trials that is now, internationally, the shameful signature of the Bush administration. Hicks’ passage through this sham process affords us all an opportunity to demand the closure of Guantanamo and an end to these heinous policies. Conditions may soon exist to shutter the prison, with George Bush’s lame-duck status, the Democratic takeover of Congress, the possible departure of Guantanamo’s arch-defender and architect, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, and, if recent reports are true, a desire to close the prison on the part of Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. These bogus military commission trials amplify global contempt for the Guantanamo prison.

Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terror

Retired CIA agent, Scheuer argues that the greatest danger for Americans confronting the radical Islamist threat is to believe—at the urging of US leaders—that Muslims attack us for what we are and what we think rather than for what we do. He contends that a rapidly growing segment of the Islamic world strenuously disapproves of specific US policies and their military, political, and economic implications.

Al Qaeda’s public statements condemn America’s protection of corrupt Muslim regimes, unqualified support for Israel, the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, and a further litany of real-world grievances. Scheuer suggests that unless US leaders recognize this fact and adjust their policies abroad accordingly, US actions in the Muslim world will only continue to empower Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda.

9/11 New Evident Reveal : WTC Original Blueprints Leaked by Whistleblower

Unseen documents show official investigations used flawed construction details.

A whistleblower that was on a team working for Silverstein Group in 2002 has made public an extensive set of detailed architectural drawings of the World Trade Center, that prove beyond any doubt that the official reports into the collapse of the towers misrepresented their construction.

Both of the government-sponsored engineering studies of the Twin Towers’ “collapses” — FEMA’s and NIST’s — are highly misleading about the core structures. Neither Report discloses dimensions for core columns — dimensions that are clearly evident in the architectural drawings. Both Reports use a variety of techniques seemingly designed to minimize the strength of the cores or to conceal their structural role entirely.

9/11 : WTC Tower Blueprints Release

The blueprints to the Twin Towers and Building 7 remained off-limits to the public for more than five years after the attack, despite the fact that the buildings were built with public money and that the engineering drawings of public buildings are supposed to be public information. 1 Incredibly, the team of engineers from the ASCE that conducted the only investigation of the building “collapses” before Ground Zero had been cleaned up lacked access to the buildings’ blueprints — at least until they signed waivers that they would not use the evidence in a lawsuit against the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. 2

In March of 2007, an extensive set of detailed architectural drawings of the World Trade Center became public through the actions of a whistleblower. The 261 drawings included detailed plans for the North Tower (WTC 1), the World Trade Center foundation and basement, and the TV mast atop the North Tower. The set of drawings does not include plans for the other six buildings in the World Trade Center complex. However, since the Twin Towers were of almost identical construction, it is safe to assume that the the structural details that the drawings shown for the North Tower are largely applicable to the South Tower.

The drawings contain a wealth of detail about the buildings, including the dimensions of structural members such as the core columns.

9/11 : THE CURIOUS COLLAPSE OF THE TWIN TOWERS

The government/media approved version of events insists that the fires in the World Trade Center burned so hot that they caused steel supports to melt and buckle, thus triggering a total collapse of the towers. This is a strange theory for a number of reasons:

1. The architects who designed the World Trade Center designed it to withstand the direct impact and fuel fire of a commercial airline crash. Aaron Swirsky, one of the architects of the WTC described the collapse as “incredible” and “unbelievable.” 96
Lee Robertson, the project’s structural engineer said: “I designed it for a 707 to hit it. The Boeing 707 has a fuel capacity comparable to the 767.” 97

2. The history of high-rise building fires provides no case histories of buildings collapsing due to steel beams melting from a fire.

3. The collapse of both towers were both perfectly symmetrical and methodical. The straight down collapse was identical in appearance to a well engineered, controlled implosion. A demolition company could not have done it better. Now that we know that all one has to do to bring a tall building straight down is set a fuel fire in it, the well trained experts who work for demolition companies should all be out of a job by now!

The truth of US losses in Iraq

According to TBRnews (http://www.tbrnews.org), which counts the number of dead and wounded US troops in Iraq periodically and produces a regularly updated bulletin, the number of soldiers killed in Iraq on 23/10/06, exceeds 15,000 and that of casualties exceeds 27,000.

In an interview with an online magazine (Al Fursan) which is one of the Islamic Army publications, its commander in chief declared: “We killed thousands of soldiers and officers from different ranks and wounded much more. According to our statistics, the American losses exceeded 25,000 and the casualties are a few tens of thousands”.

The figure of 25,000 dead is close to the estimation of a Russian military expert who said “The real number of Americans dead in Iraq would be equivalent to the official figure of the Pentagon multiplied by ten”. The total figure increased to 2790, since 2003, this data is according to official US sources.

Internet site http://www.almokhtsar.com/ is the only Arab site which mentions the number of Americans died since the beginning of the occupation. The number of casualties is updated everyday, based on information collected from various sources. The site comprises two parts, one reserved for the losses of the day and the other with the total losses since George W. Bush declared the end of the operations of war in April 2003. The meter of the site marks for the 23/10/06 the figure of 33,693 dead, that is to say 12 times the figure of 2790 announced on the same day by the US official authorities.

ZIONISM AND WORLD WAR I

In the latter part of the 1800’s, there arose in Europe a political movement known as “Zionism”. Zionism in particular referred to the effort among certain jews to establish a jewish nation in the land of Palestine. Today, the term Zionism is more commonly applied to those jews who want to expand the borders of what was already established, at the expense of the Palestinians who once owned the land. In a more general sense, the term “Zionist” is also used to describe a certain element within the jewish community (not all of them!), who believe in Jewish Supremacy, thus putting their own interests ahead of those of the nation in which they reside. It is a mistake to assume that all jews are supporters of the “Zionist Mafia” or Jewish Supremacy. In fact, some of the strongest condemnations of Zionism and Jewish Supremacy comes from jews themselves! There exists an enormous collection of hard-hitting anti-Zionist writings compiled by such notable jewish authors, historians, and journalists as John Sack, 6 Alfred Lilienthal, 7 Noam Chomsky, 8 Israel Shahak, 9, Benjamin Freedman, 10 and Victor Ostrovsky 11 just to name a few. There is even a jewish religious group called “Neturei Karta, Jews United Against Zionism.” 12 For their brave efforts, these men have had to tolerate vicious abuse from Zionist smear groups like the Anti Defamation League (ADL) – an organization which actually specializes in defamation!. So let us put to rest now and forever the slanderous lie, and strategic Zionist propaganda ploy, that labels anyone who dares to call attention to the dangers of the Zionist Mafia is an “anti-semite”, a “hatemonger”, or a “skin-head”.

THE BUTCHER SHARON : WAR CRIMINAL

At the head of the Israeli government today sits a brutal man who has been a guest of honor at George Bush’s White House on a regular basis since he took office in October 2000. His name is Ariel Sharon. His fanatical Zionist supporters in Israel refer to him as “Arik King”, but the Arabs know him as a lifelong butcher, terrorist, and war criminal. There was a time when Sharon was disgraced and his political career seemed to be over. The isolation of Ariel Sharon was the result a 1982 Palestinian massacre which Sharon engineered when he was Israel’s Defense minister. It was the Israelis themselves who forced Sharon to resign.

Sharon’s troops blocked the exits from the Sabra and Shattila refugee camps while a Lebanese militia, allied with the Israeli military, went into the camps and slaughtered more than 1,500 unarmed Palestinian civilians while raping many women. 45 Though these Lebanese militias were the ones who did the actual killing, it was Ariel Sharon who controlled the militias and it was Sharon’s soldiers who stood by and blocked the camp exits, deliberately allowing the slaughter to take place.

A survivor of the attack who had been raped and shot went to Belgium and initiated a war crimes case against Sharon. Several Lebanese militia leaders were summoned to testify against Sharon. Shortly before their testimony, three of them were suddenly killed by unknown gunmen and car bombs. Israel’s Mossad of course denied any responsibility for the strange and untimely deaths of these three witnesses against Sharon. 46 And if you believe that one, I’ll sell you the World Trade Center!

The American Ghosts of Abu Ghraib : War Criminal

Former Army Sgt. Sam Provance was one of the heroes of the Abu Ghraib scandal, the only uniformed military intelligence officer at the Iraqi prison to testify about the abuses during the internal Army investigation. When he recognized that the Pentagon was scapegoating low-level personnel, he also gave an interview to ABC News.

For refusing to play along with the cover-up, Provance was punished and pushed out of the U.S. military. The Pentagon went forward with its plan to pin the blame for the sadistic treatment of Iraqi detainees on a handful of poorly trained MPs, not on the higher-ups who brought the lessons of “alternative interrogation techniques” from the Guatanamo Bay prison to Abu Ghraib.

The Congress, which was then controlled by the Republicans, promised a fuller investigation. Provance submitted a sworn statement. But Congress never followed through, leaving Provance hanging out to dry. Then, in February 2007, he went to a special screening of the documentary, “Ghosts of Abu Ghraib,” and learned more than he expected about why the scandal died

FBI turns citizen into a secret informer : Dictatorship

The Justice Department’s inspector general revealed on March 9 that the FBI has been systematically abusing one of the most controversial provisions of the USA Patriot Act: the expanded power to issue “national security letters.” It no doubt surprised most Americans to learn that between 2003 and 2005, the FBI issued more than 140,000 specific demands under this provision — demands issued without a showing of probable cause or prior judicial approval — to obtain potentially sensitive information about U.S. citizens and residents. It did not, however, come as any surprise to me.

Three years ago, I received a national security letter (NSL) in my capacity as the president of a small Internet access and consulting business. The letter ordered me to provide sensitive information about one of my clients. There was no indication that a judge had reviewed or approved the letter, and it turned out that none had. The letter came with a gag provision that prohibited me from telling anyone, including my client, that the FBI was seeking this information.

Report: Some Unjustly Labeled Terrorists

SAN FRANCISCO Businesses checking customers’ names against a Treasury Department terrorist watch list are sometimes denying services to innocent people, according to a report released Tuesday by civil rights lawyers.

The 250-page list, posted publicly on a Treasury Department Web site, is being used by credit bureaus, health insurers and car dealerships, as well as employers and landlords, according to the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area.

The list includes some of the world’s most common names, such as Gonzalez, Lopez, Ali, Hussein, Abdul, Lucas and Gibson, and companies are often unsure how to root out mismatches. Some turn consumers away rather than risk penalties of up to $10 million and 30 years in prison for doing business with someone on the list, the group said.

The Pentagon’s Power to Jail Americans Indefinitely : Dictatorship

From May 2002 until January 2006, Padilla was held in U.S. military custody as an “enemy combatant” in the “war on terror.” In January 2006, the Pentagon chose to transfer custody of Padilla to the U.S. Justice Department, which had indicted Padilla on terrorism charges in U.S. District Court. (Ever since 9/11, U.S. officials have had the option of treating people suspected of terrorism either as “enemy combatants” or as federal-court defendants.)

Don’t forget: Jose Padilla is an American citizen. Thus, this case continues to hold ominous implications for the American people, especially when Judge Cooke’s ruling is considered in conjunction with the ruling of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals that upheld the government’s “enemy-combatant” designation for Americans as part of its “war on terrorism.” That means that whatever the government has done — and continues doing to Padilla — and, for that matter, every other “enemy combatant” in its “war on terror,“ — it has the authority to do to all Americans.

Torture Her!

So Monica Goodling doesn’t want to answer questions on Capitol Hill, eh?

This top official in the Justice Department, who serves as its liaison to the White House, is now refusing to answer any congressional questions about the US attorneys scandal. You know, the one in which George and Dick and Karl and Alberto have been hiring and firing federal prosecutors based on their willingness to politicize the legal system. That scandal (it’s so hard to keep track of them these days).

So Goodling’s lawyer has just announced that his client will be invoking her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination – even though, mind you, she didn’t do anything wrong! – rather than testifying to Congress.

Fifth Amendment? Fifth Amendment? You mean like, the Bill of Rights? That Fifth Amendment?

Doesn’t she know that the Fifth Amendment has been suspended?

Doesn’t she know that all those amendments have been suspended?

The Case Against George W. Bush : WarCriminal

The latest Bush administration scandal—the firing of eight U.S. attorneys under highly questionable circumstances — has Washington abuzz with talk of a new Watergate. The question on everyone’s mind is: Could this be the president’s Saturday night massacre—the obstruction of justice that triggers impeachment?

With prominent Republican Senators speaking out against a scandal-plagued White House, talk of impeachment has moved from the margins to the mainstream. That may seem politically far-fetched, but in fact, there is a strong case to be made.

9/11 and the Evidence

Professor David Ray Griffin is the nemesis of the official 9/11 conspiracy theory. In his latest book, Debunking 9/11 Debunking, Griffin destroys the credibility of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and Popular Mechanics reports, annihilates his critics, and proves himself to be a better scientist and engineer than the defenders of the official story.

Griffin’s book is 385 pages divided into four chapters and containing 1,209 footnotes. Without question, the book is the most thorough presentation and examination of all known facts about the 9/11 attacks. Griffin is a person who is sensitive to evidence, logic, and scientific reasoning. There is no counterpart on the official side of the story who is as fully informed on all aspects of the attacks as Griffin.

Rumsfeld “Deserted His Post” On Morning Of 9/11

There was a time when it was socially unacceptable, in the United States at least, to say anything bad about then defence secretary Donald Rumsfeld. The man who once flew over Iraq and declared the terrorism-smashed country didn’t look so bad, from the air, was widely perceived to be a cross between a witty genius, an American hero and a war-time leader of Patton and Churchillian credibility and vision. From September 11, 2001 to late 2004, Rumsfeld was all but untouchable.

Federal Reserve: Hiding 9-11 Evidence?

The story is about William Bergman a senior analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago whose employment with the Bank was abruptly terminated after he sought answers to a question relating to an investigation he had been directed to undertake.

According to the Muckraker Report, Bergman had noted that the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve had issued supervisory letters to the 12 Reserve Banks in the weeks after September 11, 2001 urging scrutiny of suspicious activity reports in tracking terrorism activity and financing. However, Bergman also noticed that the Board of Governors had issued a similar letter, albeit one that did not refer explicitly to terrorism, on August 2, 2001. According to Bergman, terrorism and terrorist financing were known to be part of ‘suspicious activity’ however, and the August 2, 2001 supervisory letter clearly called for scrutiny of suspicious activity, which implies and includes the tracking of terrorism activity and financing. In December, Bergman called the staff of the Board of Governors to ask why the Board had issued the August 2, 2001 letter.

Within two weeks Bergman’s assignment was abruptly terminated and his credentials canceled and he was forced to resign.

Proof of US orchestration of death squads’ killings in Iraq : War Crime

Probably everyone remembers the discovery of the Jadiriyah detention facility in November 2005. US troops were reported to have uncovered the prison in their hunt for a missing person, only to discover some 170 detainees in horrific conditions, many of them clearly the victims of obscene tortures. Although it was admitted that the facility belonged to the Interior Ministry and that the detainees were held by a secretive Interior Ministry force known as the Special Investigations Unit, the story was quickly shuffled away as yet another example of the work of Shiite militiamen, in this instance, as was the vogue at that time, the Badr Brigade [1].

Counting the cost : War Crime

The figures have now been vindicated by the government’s own advisers. It’s time we held our leaders to account for the 650,000 Iraqi dead.

Our collective failure has been to take our political leaders at their word. This week, the BBC reported that the government’s own scientists advised ministers that the Johns Hopkins study on Iraq civilian mortality was accurate and reliable. This paper was published in the Lancet last October. It estimated that 650,000 Iraqi civilians had died since the American- and British-led invasion in March 2003.

Khalilzad’s bogus talks with Iraq’s resistance

The Times, in its farewell paeon to departing Ambassador Khalilzad, headlines the least-secret secret of his tenure in Baghdad: that he held talks with representatives of Iraq’s resistance.

That’s pretty much correct, although Chalabi ignores the reality that the central demand of the resistance (the non-Al Qaeda-linked mainstream resistance) is the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq, in exchange for which they’re willing to declare a ceasefire. The Bush administration, of course, isn’t willing to consider that.

Interesting, though, that the Times calls Chalabi a “friend of Mr.Khalilzad.” Also, in its piece, the Times forthrightly calls Khalilzad a “neoconservative,” which describes him exactly. (At a speaking engagement last fall, when I called Khalilzad a neoconservative, I was strongly criticized for saying so by Judith Kipper.) In any case, neocon Khalilzad, friend of Chalabi, is leaving Iraq.

The 9/11 Lie Is In Critical Condition

There was a time, not long ago, when daring to question the official account of 9/11 was risky business. One was almost guaranteed to be attacked as a “crazy person” or a “traitor” or a “terrorist sympathizer.” Times have changed. At this point, http://www.prisonplanet.com/articles/October2006/141006poll.htm less than 20% of the population believes they were given the full truth regarding 9/11. Logically one might ask: “Why is that?”

It wasn’t for lack of trying that the government failed in its propaganda campaign. It wasn’t for lack of “helping hands” in the mainstream media. (Though even that support has begun to fall apart.) No, it was one thing and one thing only that caused hundreds of millions of American citizens to openly question the official account of 9/11; the evidence.

In short, the evidence that we have been shamelessly lied to regarding the events of 9/11 is irrefutable. There is an enormous body of circumstantial evidence, there is an enormous body of physical evidence, and there is an enormous body of historical evidence. Perhaps most damning (at this point) is the ongoing cover up itself. -The deliberate attempt to obstruct an open discussion of the facts. Evidence of that grows by the hour, but not to worry…

9/11 : Government Misconduct, Not Truthers, Most Insulting to 9/11 Heroes, Victims

A popular tactic to shut down debate on behalf of debunkers is to claim that asking questions about the official 9/11 story is insulting to the victims, and yet it is the progenitors of that myth, the government itself, that through its post-9/11 actions has inflicted the most misery and suffering upon ground zero heroes and victims.

Frothing Neo-Con attack dogs like Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity, along with high profile 9/11 truth TV and newspaper hit pieces put out by the BBC and their ilk, have all regurgitated the emotional rhetoric that having skepticism towards the official 9/11 fairy tale is a direct attack on the memories of those lost on 9/11 and their loved ones.

As is usually the case with arguments put forth by debunkers, the exact opposite is true.

1 Out of 680 Americans a Suspected Terrorist: Terror Database Has Quadrupled In Four Years

U.S. Watch Lists Are Drawn From Massive Clearinghouse

Flashback: New Anti-Terror Training Manual Says ”Property Rights Activists” Are TerroristsEach day, thousands of pieces of intelligence information from around the world — field reports, captured documents, news from foreign allies and sometimes idle gossip — arrive in a computer-filled office in McLean, where analysts feed them into the nation’s central list of terrorists and terrorism suspects.

Called TIDE, for Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment, the list is a storehouse for data about individuals that the intelligence community believes might harm the United States. It is the wellspring for watch lists distributed to airlines, law enforcement, border posts and U.S. consulates, created to close one of the key intelligence gaps revealed after Sept. 11, 2001: the failure of federal agencies to share what they knew about al-Qaeda operatives.

But in addressing one problem, TIDE has spawned others. Ballooning from fewer than 100,000 files in 2003 to about 435,000, the growing database threatens to overwhelm the people who manage it. “The single biggest worry that I have is long-term quality control,” said Russ Travers, in charge of TIDE at the National Counterterrorism Center in McLean. “Where am I going to be, where is my successor going to be, five years down the road?”

Sunni Baghdad Becomes Land of Silent Ruins

BAGHDAD, March 25 — The cityscape of Iraq’s capital tells a stark story of the toll the past four years have taken on Iraq’s once powerful Sunni Arabs.

Theirs is a world of ruined buildings, damaged mosques, streets pitted by mortar shells, uncollected trash and so little electricity that many people have abandoned using refrigerators altogether.

The contrast with Shiite neighborhoods is sharp. Markets there are in full swing, community projects are under way, and while electricity is scarce throughout the city, there is less trouble finding fuel for generators in those areas. When the government cannot provide services, civilian arms of the Shiite militias step in to try to fill the gap.

The political history of the car bomb…The modern origin is: Oh NO! the Stern “Zionist” Gang!

“In what is certain to be a revelation for many supporters of the state of Israel, Davis explains the car bomb’s modern origins in the tactics of the Zionist terrorists known as the Stern Gang. This group, composed of men-some who went on to help rule Israel–was ruthless in its application of car bombs. They genuinely did not seem to care who died in the explosions they caused, although they preferred them to be Arab. It was the success of their terror campaign that helped “cleanse” Palestine of Palestinians so that Israelis could take the lands.”

PLANNING FOR ETHNIC CLEANSING IN PALESTINE : ZIONIST WAR CRIMINAL

Zionist ethnic cleansing operations of 1948 were planned way before 1948. Ethnic cleansing was part and parcel of the Zionist plans for the creation of the Jewish State they had in mind.

The Haganah, an illegal military organization, was formed in 1920 headed by an elected political leadership and was transferred to the joint authority of the Jewish Agency Executive and the Va’ad Leumi in 1929. The Arab rebellion in 1936-39 was quelled by the British forces in cooperation with the Haganah. Palmach, the Haganah’s strike force, was formed in 1941.

In 1931, a group of the Haganah members seceded from the organization and became knows as the Irgun Tzeva’i le’umi or its acronym, Etzel.

In 1940, a small group led by Abraham (Yair) Stern, seceded from Etzel and began to operate separately under the name “Etzel in Israel” (the Stern group).

In 1939 differences of opinion emerged between Stern and Raziel, then commander of the Irgun, which led to a split in the organization and the establishment of the new organization Irgun Zvai Leumi Beisrael, which later became to be known as the Lohamei Herut Yisrael (Lehi). Yitzhak Shamir was one of the leaders of Lehi.

By the end of WWII, Haganah, Etzel, and Lehi joined together to carry out terrorist actions against the mandate government in Palestine. Moshe Sneh, head of the Haganah national headquarters, laid down the foundations for an alliance with Etzel and Lehi, which grew into the “Hebrew Resistance Movement”. (Michael Bar-Zohar, Ben-Gurion: A
Biography. New York: Delacorte Press, 1977, p. 130)

In 1948, the Israel Defense Force (IDF) was founded incorporating all the three terrorist organizations.

Military operational plans for occupation and ethnic cleansing were also prepared ahead of time.

  • Plan A was prepared in February 1945
  • Plan B was introduced in May 1947
  • Plan C (Plan Gimmel) was worked out in November 1947

Terrorized by ‘War on Terror’

How a Three-Word Mantra Has Undermined America

The “war on terror” has created a culture of fear in America. The Bush administration’s elevation of these three words into a national mantra since the horrific events of 9/11 has had a pernicious impact on American democracy, on America’s psyche and on U.S. standing in the world. Iraq after Four Year of Constant Killing : War Criminal

It was not supposed to be like this. Iraq was not supposed to end up like this four years from the start of the invasion. By now, Iraq was supposed to be the most peaceful, most stable and most prosperous state in the region, if not the whole world. That is what US President Bush and the coalition of the blind followers prophesied to their respective tax-paying people as they sought their support for what can now only be called the stupid war. The picture is very different now of course from that prophecy; Iraq is drenched in blood as the occupation baby-sits a sectarian civil war to say the least. Death, grotesque public execution, criminal torture, hideous terror, immoral ethnic cleansing extreme poverty and hunger, and strange diseases have all swept the land of Iraq. The future is very grim, and the picture very depressing. Four years on, and US President Bush is still saying Baghdad security will take months. He must be the only one who believes he can achieve in months what he could not achieve in years!

The Unraveling of Another U.S. Race War: Iraq, Four Years Later

Despite poll numbers that show more Americans want out of Iraq, peace activists should not expect a sea change in basic public perceptions of the U.S. “role” in the world. The debacle in Iraq can only be understood through the logic of (white) American Manifest Destiny and Imperial Racism. The supposed “mistakes” and “flaws” of a “dumb” policy are in fact symptomatic of a deep cultural malady: an inability to perceive non-white “Others” as human beings. Americans make enemies because their entire history has been to see Others as either The Enemy, or as their fawning protégés – but never as equals.

DEMOCRATS VOTE TO CONTINUE THE SLAUGHTER IN IRAQ FOR 17 MORE MONTHS

The Boston Globe article (below) reports that yesterday, Democrat-led House of Representatives voted to continue the war in Iraq for another 17 months. In the last 17 months, 1265 US and British soldiers were killed in Iraq – about 4 a day. At least 23,113 Iraqis were killed in the last 15 months – probably many more.

Killing The Future: The Murder of Nuran Iyad Dib

“What more can I say except that she was a breath of fresh air in these hard times? Her name was Nur (light) and that’s exactly what she was.” Nuran’s mother.

It was a cold winter’s day in Rafah Refugee Camp in Gaza on January 31, 2005, as Palestinian school children lined up for Monday morning assembly in the schoolyard. Nuran Dib, a ten-year old Palestinian girl was standing with classmates to enter their school when shots from Israeli occupation forces at a military position, called Termit post, some 600m away hit her. The Israeli gunfire hit Nuran in the head and she was later pronounced dead by doctors at Rafah Hospital.

Arabs…the Silent Darfur Victims : Ignored by Western Media

CAIRO Stereotyped as the enemy by the West and neglected by the government, Arab Darfuris are the silent victims of the conflict in the western Sudanese region, The Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday, March 22.

“It’s as if we are against all the world,” Mohmed Izzat, who represents Arab nomad populations in North Darfur’s state government, said bitterly.

“Now everyone acts as if we are all killers.”

The conflict in war-ravaged Darfur is usually described the Western media and official as involving Arab versus non-Arab ethnic Africans, with Arabs cast as the villains.

But Darfur’s Arab population asserts they are no less victimized in the deadly conflict than the non-Arabs, except that their dilemmas usually go unreported.

9/11 WTC 7: Silverstein’s “Pull It” Explanation Examined

Let’s have a look at Silverstein’s full statement:
“I remember getting a call from the fire department commander, telling me that they were not sure they were gonna be able to contain the fire, and I said, ‘We’ve had such terrible loss of life, maybe the smartest thing to do is pull it.’ And they made that decision to pull and we watched the building collapse.”WMV video download (490kB)

In summary, the fire department commander said the fire could not be contained, Silverstein said “the smartest thing to do is pull it”, and the fire department made the decision to pull. “Pull” is a term used in building demolition… :
“We’re getting ready to pull Building 6” … “We had to be very careful how we demolished Building 6…” WMV video download (564kB)

Note that WTC 6 was demolished with explosives, not pulled over by cables, therefore “pull” is a term used to define an explosive demolition.

Information provided through FOIA requests … show that FEMA had no personnel in place Sept. 10, 2001 – the day before Sept. 11, 2001 – which would have suggested the agency had prior knowledge of the terrorist attacks.

9/11 Firefighters: Bombs and Explosions in the WTC

[Firefighter Louie] Cacchioli was called to testify privately [before the 9/11 Commission], but walked out on several members of the committee before they finished, feeling like he was being interrogated and cross-examined rather than simply allowed to tell the truth about what occurred in the north tower on 9/11. “My story was never mentioned in the final report [PDF download] and I felt like I was being put on trial in a court room,” said Cacchioli. “I finally walked out. They were trying to twist my words and make the story fit only what they wanted to hear. All I wanted to do was tell the truth and when they wouldn’t let me do that, I walked out. … It was a disgrace to everyone, the victims and the family members who lost loved ones.

Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett has hit back at Hans Blix. The former UN chief weapons inspector had claimed that, aside from Saddam Hussein’s fall, everything in Iraq since the invasion had been a disaster. Yesterday, Beckett said: “It’s complete nonsense. I’m surprised at Hans Blix saying something so foolish and so negative.”

She insisted there had been “a massive amount of change” in Iraq, including elections. President George Bush came under more pressure after seven US troops were killed in Iraq at the weekend. And the US military blamed al-Qaeda for chlorine bomb attacks that killed two people in Anbar province.

(a) From UN Population Division Data using the death rate in Iraq’s peaceful but impoverished neighbours Jordan and Syria as a baseline, the post-invasion excess deaths in Occupied Iraq totals 0.6 million (by way of comparison, the corresponding post-invasion under-5 infant mortality figure is 0.5 million).

(b) Detailed analysis of infant mortality and avoidable mortality (excess deaths) for every country in the world since 1950 reveals that for impoverished Third World countries “under-5 infant mortality” is about 0.7 times the “total avoidable mortality”. From the latest UNICEF data we see that 122,000 under-5 year old infants die each year in Occupied Iraq i.e. 122,000 x 4 = 488,000 would have died over the 4 years since the invasion; dividing by 0.7 yields an estimate of 697,000 post-invasion avoidable deaths in Occupied Iraq i.e. 0.7 million.

(c) Roberts et al (2004) in The Lancet estimated a post-invasion Iraqi annual death rate of 12.3 persons per 1,000 of population. Subtracting the annual death rate in impoverished but peaceful neighbouring Syria and Jordan (about 4 deaths per 1,000 of population) we get a post-invasion annual avoidable death rate of 8.3 per 1,000 or 8,300 /million. Assuming an average population of 27 million this yields an estimated post-invasion avoidable mortality of 8.3 x 27 x 4 = 896,000 i.e. 0.9 million.

(d) Using the latest 2006 Johns Hopkins data ( indicating 13.3 deaths annually per 1,000 people and an Iraqi pre-invasion death rate of 5.5 deaths per 1,000) yields an excess death rate of 7.8 /1,000 i.e. 7,800 /million and a population of 27 million yields excess deaths = 7,800 x 27 x 4 = 842,000 i.e. 0.8 million.

(e) Taking the 2006 Johns Hopkins data but using a Jordan/Syria baseline of 4 deaths per 1,000 (as opposed to a baseline of 5.5 deaths/1,000 for Iraq after 12 years of crippling Sanctions) gives an “annual excess death rate” of 9.3 per 1,000, 9,300/million and post-invasion excess deaths totalling 9,300 x 27 x 4 = 1,004,400 i.e. 1.0 million as of March 2007.

ABC (Under)counting Iraqi Dead

ABC News is marking the anniversary of the start of the Iraq War this week by reporting on its major survey of Iraqi public opinion. But when it comes to one fundamental tally of the cost of the war—the number of Iraqis who have been killed by the war—top ABC anchors are minimizing the death toll.

On the Sunday morning show This Week (3/18/07), George Stephanopoulos reported: “More than 3,200 U.S. military dead. At least 24,000 wounded. About 60,000 Iraqis killed.” The next day on Good Morning America, his ABC colleague Diane Sawyer mentioned almost the same figures: “3,218 U.S. military fatalities and 24,042 U.S. wounded, not to mention the some 60,000 Iraqis who have been killed.”

One Thousand, Four-Hundred And Sixty Days That Will Live In Infamy : War Criminal

This is the length of time that the Deciders & his mercenaries have been devastating Iraq, one Iraqi at a time, with the tacit approval of too many Americans, for far too long. The Decider, speaking to the nation today noted that if we were to pull out, ‘that would be disastrous for the security of this nation.’ He’s been making noises like that for a long time now: Bush should have thought about all that “before” he decided to have his tantrums that led to the invasion of Iraq-now it’s too late!

Over 10 million people told him that, the UN told him that, the Atlantic Alliance told him that and NATO told him that but did he listen? Hell NO, he was George W. Bush, the Dictator in waiting.

It looks like the dawning of the fifth year of this war-a war that will go down in history as one of the most heinous continuous crimes ever committed under so many false pretenses-may finally be about to come to a screeching halt! Call people, talk to people, make some noise about this Outrage-if we can do that long enough and loud enough, (during the week as well as on weekends) then just maybe something in this nightmare will finally begin to really change-for the better!

In a dispatch posted at 3:23pm Makkah time Wednesday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the body of the martyred Iraqi Vice President Taha Yasin Ramadan, assassinated in an “execution” carried out by the American-backed puppet regime, was laid to rest in the village of al-‘Awjah near the grave of Iraq’s martyred President Saddam Husayn. The event took place under heavy American guard.

The Shaykh who supervised the washing of the Vice President’s body told Mafkarat al-Islam that the body showed signs of beating after death, as there were boot prints on his face and chest.

War Crime : Remembering Rufina Amaya

On March 9 The New York Times ran an obituary on Rufina Amaya who died at 64 in El Salvador, of a stroke, the previous Tuesday. We should all remember the ordeal experienced by Ms. Amaya at the hands of troops specifically trained by U.S. Special Forces.

We read in the papers today that the U.S. plans on the “Salvadorization” of the Iraqi counterinsurgency as a way to bring about an American victory. In fact, The New York Times Magazine in a 2005 article (May 01) revealed that the Iraqi counterinsurgency was being advised by an American who led the Special Forces in El Salvador in the 1980s.

What can Iraqi civilians expect to face? Well, here is the story of Rufina Amaya and her village, El Mozote, and what happened to her and it at the hands of the American trained troops. This information is all publicly available on the internet (Wikepedia, articles from the The New Yorker, New York Times and Washington Post, among others).

Sunni insurgency continues to grow

WASHINGTON (Map) – The Sunni Arab insurgency in Iraq is larger and more organized than it was two years ago, according to a U.S. military analyst.

The analyst spoke of a force of 70,000 hard-line operators and part-time supporters who are rebelling against the new security crackdown in greater Baghdad. Two years ago, U.S. commanders pegged the Sunni insurgency at 20,000, although a solid number has always been elusive.

Iraq & Washington’s Systemic Failure

George W. Bush and Dick Cheney may deserve the most blame for the Iraq War, but a core reality shouldn’t be missed: the four-year-old conflict resulted from a systemic failure in Washington – from the White House, to congressional Republicans and Democrats, to an insular national news media, to Inside-the-Beltway think tanks.

The War of Words

Let’s stop dignifying this messo’potamia in Iraq by calling it a war. What has happened in Iraq is NOT a “war,” it was never a “war,” and the only real “war” that could ever come of our presence there is a civil war that no one in this administration can admit, and that we should not be party to in any way, shape or form. Certainly not now, after all.

Israeli racism

Following a rather innocuous story on Israel’s political problems, this blog received a rather vicious “megaphone” treatment — and if that term is unfamiliar to you, scroll down. In response to this “troll conspiracy,” I shall endeavor to print a story about Israel at least once a day.

In the Palestinian city of Hebron, Israeli settlers whose behavior is indistinguishable from that of Hitler’s goons, assailed a 57 year-old Danish human rights activist named Anna Maria, calling her a “Nazi” simply because she was trying to protect Palestinian children from being brutalized. Israeli police arrested not the assailants, but Maria.

Gaza Strip

In January of 2001, American director James Longley traveled to the Gaza Strip. His plan was to stay for two weeks to collect preliminary material for a documentary film on the Palestinian Intifada. It was during his stay that Ariel Sharon was elected as Israeli Prime Minister. As violence erupted around him, Longley threw away his return ticket and filmed for the next three months, acquiring nearly 75 hours of footage.

Gaza Strip, his first feature documentary, is an extraordinary and painful journey into the lives of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip struggling with the day-to-day trials of the Israeli occupation. Filmed in verité style and without narration, Gaza Strip at last gives voice to a population largely ignored by mainstream media.

9/11 : Former CIA official supports Professor’s claim that official 9/11 Islamist conspiracy theory are lies

David Ray Griffin is widely recognized as one of the leading spokespersons of the 9/11 truth movement. This is by virtue of his previous four books on the subject. Professor Griffin and a growing list of scholars, other researchers as well as diverse experts and activists, reject the official Islamist mastermind conspiracy theory about 9/11 advanced by Establishment interests.

Although the 9/11 truth movement was long ignored by the U.S. government and the mainstream media, recent polls have shown that (as Time magazine has acknowledged) the rejection of the official theory has become “a mainstream political phenomenon.”

It is not surprising, therefore, that the U.S. government and the Big Business controlled media have shifted tactics. No longer ignoring the 9/11 truth movement, they have released a flurry of stories and reports aimed at debunking it.

In David Ray Griffin’s new book entitled Debunking 9/11, shows that these attempts can themselves be easily debunked.

“Debunking 9/11 is a superb compendium of the strong body of evidence showing the official U.S. Government story of what happened on September 11, 2001 to be almost certainly a monstrous series of lies. Tragically, the entire course of U.S. foreign and domestic policies since that date has grown out of these almost certain falsehoods,” says Bill Christison, former senior official of the CIA.

Detainee abuse in CIA secret prisons documented in ICRC report

Detainees held in secret prisons operated by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) [official website] throughout the globe were subject to abuse and sleep deprivation, according to a confidential report prepared by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) [official website]. In interviews with former detainees, the ICRC reports that it learned that terror suspects were forced into “stress positions” and subjected to sleep deprivation in attempts by the CIA to gain information from them. According to anonymous US officials, the report is based solely upon interviews with detainees, and has yet to verified.

This is the first independent report to be prepared concerning the CIA prisons. Last month, Human Rights Watch (HRW) called on President George W. Bush to account for so-called “ghost prisoners” whose whereabouts and identities have been kept secret since September when Bush acknowledged [JURIST report] the existence of secret CIA prisons. HRW also released a supporting report [text; press release] Tuesday in which a former CIA detainee, Marwan Jabour, recounted his experiences in a secret CIA prison. AP has more.

Amnesty urges governments not to cooperate with US military trials

The human rights group Amnesty International has called on foreign governments not to cooperate with United States military trials of Guantanamo Bay detainees. In a report, Amnesty International says other countries should refuse to provide evidence for prosecutions. The White House insists it needs to try dangerous individuals as part of its efforts to combat terrorism. Amnesty spokesman Steve Ballinger says the tribunals lack the independence needed to ensure fair trials.

“They’re run entirely by the US Department of Defence, a military judge, and a panel of five to 12 serving armed forces officers,” he said.

“They’ll allow evidence that’s been obtained under duress and from illegal, secret detention centres and hearsay evidence.

“Efforts on the part of defence attorneys to challenge evidence that’s been coerced out of witnesses, which is notoriously unreliable, can simply be stonewalled on national security grounds.”

9/11 and other “big lies” examined.

The imagery of the über-industrial Holocaust is so gut-wrenchingly horrific that anyone challenging the story is deemed criminally guilty of intent to incite racial hatred or civic disorder.

The subjectivity involved in evaluating intent explains the many glaring examples of double standards surrounding the ‘holocaust denial’ controversy.

For example: the ‘establishment’ historian Raul Hilberg states that the number of those murdered in Auschwitz was not four but one million, whilst the total number of Jews who died in WW II was not six but five million. When he makes such revisions, this is not considered ‘denial’.

Yet when an ‘unapproved’ historian such as David Irving cites the same figures or, for example, that the gas chamber at Auschwitz is a post-war Soviet construction, during his trial in Austria he was not allowed to bring in the Auschwitz director to testify because no question regarding the truth or falsehood of any aspect of the Holocaust was allowed.

9/11 Truthers Confront Alan ‘Mengele’ Dershowitz

Brainwashed rapture-stoned fake Christians & Israeli-firsters scream and boo, throw their toys out of the playpen

Activists from the Philly 9/11 Truth organization confronted arch-Neo-Con and torture advocate Alan ‘Mengele’ Dershowitz at a speaking event last week, causing his fake Christian Israeli-first vulture audience to boo and throw their toys out of the pram, shortly before security were called to drag the dissenters out of the building for the crime of asking a question.

Dershowitz is no stranger to advocating “tough tactics” in fighting his political enemies, for it was the Harvard law professor himself who was perhaps the first public figure after 9/11 to call for the torture of terrorism suspects. We can thank Dershowitz for being the trailblazer of a legacy that led to Abu Ghraib, the policy of raping and torturing children to make their parents talk, and the farce of military tribunals and Guantanamo Bay.

Dershowitz’s stance was crystallized at a January 2002 event in New York, when he advocated the insertion of a sterilized needle under the fingernails to produce “excruciating pain.” Thanks Alan! You were a real torch bearer for liberty and justice back in those difficult post-9/11days!

WHY WE (US) NEED THE “WE THE PEOPLE” ACT (H.R. 300)

The United States of America was created to be a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy. A Constitutionally limited republic is restricted to the protection of individual rights. As outlined in our Constitution, the role of the federal government is strictly controlled in well-defined responsibilities. According to the 10th Amendment, all other powers and responsibilities are assigned to the 50 individual, sovereign States, which also are Republican governments.

A democracy is ruled by a majority of votes. Under such a system, no rights may be guaranteed since a simple majority can overturn them. The result of a democracy is a form of collectivism, which denies individual rights.

Four years later, the annihilation of Iraq is still on course

Four years ago, US-led forces began a vicious aerial bombardment of the oil-rich country of Iraq. Referred to as Operation Iraqi Freedom, the opening salvo ushered the vital Arab nation into an era of darkness, dread and destruction.

The first signs that Iraqis were in for a bloody and inhumane occupation were felt in the “precision bombing” of Baghdad and other cities. Arab media clamored viciously to broadcast the freshest images of civilian dead which were coming in to news bureaus every hour.

In the 1,461 days that have since passed, Iraq as a nation is in decay; its people are displaced — refugees in neighboring countries. Nearly 700,000 Iraqis of all religions and sects have died. Public order is in disarray; gunshots and explosions in schools, marketplaces, and parks have replaced the chirp and chatter of everyday life.

After 4 years: Iraqi Resistance Indicators..Up and Up . Rumsfeld’s Metrics..Wet.

The following graphs show the steady progress of the Iraqi resistance over the four years of occupation. They are extracted from the Iraq Index (pp 23 and 24) and updated on 19th March 2007.

The first graph shows that the average number of attacks have more than doubled in the last year to about 185 per day. That is 1300 per week, and over 5500 attacks per month. Another way of understanding this is that in any one hour, day and night, there are 7-8 new mortar attack, IED, sniper fire, etc. The figures are based on variety of official and semi-official US sources and estimates. The inclusion of ‘Militias’ in the title of the graph is recent, and seems linked to the evolving political vocabulary by the US. In the light of the two other items. Militia can be understood to refer to local vigilantes that are largely part of the resistance.

“Israel’s” Intent to Wipe Palestine Off the Map

Maps Used to Brainwash Israelis about the Non-existence of Palestine… I have come upon a new source for the Israeli popular denial of Palestine and Palestinians which frankly strikes me as symptomatic of a will-to-genocide. Take a look at their maps. Yes, maps! The Israeli government has been playing around with their maps since 1967. The result has been what Professor Oren Yiftachel of Ben-Gurion University, a political-geographer and urban planner from Beer-Sheva, refers to as ‘spatial socialization’ which is used to buttress Israel’s claim to Palestine.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali- The self proclaimed apostate with dark secrets

Ayaan Hirsi Ali blames Islam for the miseries of the Muslim world. Her new autobiography shows that life is too complex for that

SAY what you will about Ayaan Hirsi Ali, she fascinates. The Dutch-Somali politician, who has lived under armed guard ever since a fatwa was issued against her in 2004, is a chameleon of a woman. Just 11 years after she arrived in the Netherlands from Africa, she rode into parliament on a wave of anti-immigrant sentiment, only to leave again last year, this time for America, after an uproar over lies she had told to obtain asylum.

Another, even more disturbing story concerns her sister Haweya’s sojourn in the Netherlands. In her earlier book, “The Caged Virgin”, which came out last year, Ms Hirsi Ali wrote that her sister came to the Netherlands to avoid being “married off”. In “Infidel”, however, she says Haweya came to recover from an illicit affair with a married man that ended in abortion. Ms Hirsi Ali helped Haweya make up another fabricated story that gained her refugee status, but the Netherlands offered her little respite. After another affair and a further abortion, Haweya was put into a psychiatric hospital. Back in Nairobi, she died from a miscarriage brought on by an episode of religious frenzy. “It was the worst news of my life,” Ms Hirsi Ali writes.

Mental illness, abortion, failed marriages, illicit affairs and differing interpretations of religion: much as she tries, the kind of problems that Ms Hirsi Ali describes in “Infidel” are all too human to be blamed entirely on Islam. Her book shows that her life, like those of other Muslims, is more complex than many people in the West may have realised. But the West’s tendency to seek simplistic explanations is a weakness that Ms Hirsi Ali also shows she has been happy to exploit.

Muslim Imams sue U.S. Airways : anti-Muslim bias and Islamophobia

A group of six Muslim imams filed a lawsuit against U.S. Airways and other defendants, arguing that they violated their civil rights by removing them last November from a Phoenix-bound flight at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

A new wave of discrimination, violation of civil rights and hatred of Muslims has emerged in the United States following the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Unfortunately, anti-Muslim bias and Islamophobia have been intensified by the Western media, which wrongfully links Muslims and Islam with “terrorism” and “extremism”, creating a false and widespread misconception that Muslims are related to terror attacks.

Reports of discrimination against American Muslims, or those perceived to be Muslims, reached a record high in 2005, according to CAIR’s 11th annual report: “The Struggle for Equality”. The rights group also processed a total of 1,972 civil rights complaints in 2005 alone — almost 30% higher than the figures of 2004.

Happy Anniversary Free Iraq!

This 18th of March, 2007 it will be the 4th anniversary of Iraq’s brutal occupation by American forces and also the 4th birthday of ‘free Iraq’. The only things that have changed are the advanced dates, the even more advanced brutality of the nature of occupation and the addition of some gutless democrats to the cheerleaders on the Capitol Hill. The bloodletting goes on as America continues to cling to Iraq’s throat like the bulldog named ‘Cherokee’ in Jack London’s ‘White fang’. And like him again, America inches its teeth ever closer to that unfortunate nation’s jugular with each spasmodic jerk of the dying Iraq.

This 4th anniversary of Iraq’s occupation, we will mourn the mangled corpse of the Iraqi nationhood that America continues to drag around the vast deserts of that country, with fangs bared and claws out, in an unjustified, illegal and bloody occupation.

This 4th anniversary of Iraq’s occupation, let us try to understand for whom was the following said in the “Book of Isaiah” in The Bible?

“YOUR HANDS ARE STAINED WITH BLOOD, YOUR FINGERS WITH GUILT, YOUR LIPS SPEAK FALSEHOOD AND YOUR TONGUE UTTERS DECEIT”

Mounting Civilian Deaths in Afghanistan and Iraq In the Name of Improving People’s Lives

Bush has lost his wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The world condemns the gulags operated by his secret agencies that are accountable to the laws of neither man nor God. The peoples of Iraq and Afghanistan dread and detest the foreign troops who occupy their country. The lives of few on earth have been improved by America, and those are mainly the already obscenely rich (the “haves and the have-mores”, in the words of the vulgar Bush). And the United States, that wonderful country, is now regarded round the world as an aggressive barbaric empire whose soldiers and pilots kill at will.

Last month President Putin summed up America’s position by saying that “Today we are witnessing an almost uncontained hyper-use of military force in international relations ; force that is plunging the world into an abyss of permanent conflicts . . . We are seeing a greater and greater disdain for the basic principles of international law. One country, the United States, has overstepped its national borders in every way.”

Washington’s actions, said President Putin, “have caused new human tragedies and created new centers of tension. Judge for yourselves : wars as well as local and regional conflicts have not diminished. And even more are dying than before. Many more.”

But it’s all in the cause of helping to improve people’s lives.

Declaration of Ward Boston, Jr.,Captain, JAGC, USN (Ret.), Counsel to the U.S. Navy Court of Inquiry’s investigation into the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty

I know from personal conversations I had with Admiral Kidd that President Lyndon Johnson and Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara ordered him to conclude that the attack was a case of “mistaken identity” despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Admiral Kidd told me, after returning from Washington, D.C. that he had been ordered to sit down with two civilians from either the White House or the Defense Department, and rewrite portions of the court’s findings.

Admiral Kidd also told me that he had been ordered to “put the lid” on everything having to do with the attack on USS Liberty. We were never to speak of it and we were to caution everyone else involved that they could never speak of it again.

I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of that statement as I know that the Court of Inquiry transcript that has been released to the public is not the same one that I certified and sent off to Washington.

False prophets : The US loves listening to its Arab/Muslim ‘reformers’. And they love telling the US just what it wants to hear.

For a long time now, I have been meaning to take a cool, reflective look at Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Irshad Manji. The ordeal of keeping calm long enough to write about them and avoiding serious damage to my blood pressure at the same time was mainly what prevented me.

Hirsi Ali and Manji (“the Muslim refusenik”) are the most prominent among several “reformers” of Arab or Muslim origin lionised by the American media and in Britain by the likes of Melanie Phillips.

Editors and TV producers love ’em. Their strident views make for entertaining television and, of course, the things they say are generally what the US public wants to hear. The trouble is, their approach is so simplistic and confrontational and so insensitive towards the culture they are trying to change that it does more harm than good. Among ordinary Muslims – the people they are supposedly seeking to help – their credibility is virtually zero.

In the academic world, people like Hirsi Ali and Manji are known as “native informants”, though Issandr el-Amrani of the Arabist blog has another term for them: “courageous reformist Arab personalities (CRAP).

Being a CRAP is quite lucrative – Manji reportedly charges $7,500 (£4,000)an hour for giving a talk. If you fancy joining them, there’s a bit of advice here on how to do it. From a media point of view, it helps if you’re a woman. And the latest female addition to the CRAP stable is Wafa Sultan, an ex-Syrian who shot to prominence as a result of some shrill remarks on al-Jazeera television that were then brought to an American audience via Memri.

“Our Brothers”, the Kurds… traitor against muslim!!!

Could not miss this excellent historical documentary on al Jazeera about Mostafa Al Barazani. Mostafa Al Barazani is the father figure “par excellence” of the Kurdish separatist (and I would add chauvinist) movement in Iraq.

  • First it was the Soviet Union but their cooperation was short lived when Mostafa found out that the Soviets were arming Iraq.
  • Then he turned to the Iraqi Monarchy and that too did not work.
  • Then he sought Abdel Kareem Qassem, the nationalist leader who overthrew the Iraqi monarchy in 1958. But even then the alliance was very short lived and Qassem ordered the clamping down of the kurdish separatist movement after this latter started waging attacks on Iraqi civilians.
  • Then Mostafa sought an alliance with AbdelSalam Aref and later with his brother AbdelRahman and that too was short lived.
  • Seems that Mostafa Al Barazani demands for total autonomy of the “kurdish” areas were not in line with Iraq’s internal or external policies.
  • Or maybe the various Iraqi governments simply did not fancy an attack on their territorial sovereignty.
  • In 1968, when the Baath came to power, M.H Al-Bakr, the then president of Iraq and Saddam Hussein his young vice president wanted a clean page with Barazani the father.
  • Meanwhile, the Kurds headed by M.Barazani were striking political deals with the Shah of Iran…
  • On a side note, Barazani who was originally from Iran and finally settled in the Iraqi northern parts, kept telling his men, do not hate the Arabs, we have a problem only with Iraqi Arabs and in particular the Iraqi Government…
  • the Kurdish leadership sought out help from the Israeli Mossad and this latter gladly helped.
  • An Israeli former mossad agent A.Tasfirini (as I said I am terrible with names, you can have the exact name by writing to:focus@aljazeera.net)
  • The second important development was a secret agreement orchestrated by Henry Kissinger and the Kurdish leadership.
  • In fact it was a secret agreement between the CIA and the Kurds and the Iraqi government and Saddam Hussein knew nothing of it.
  • In 1979 Mostafa al Barazani fell gravely ill and went to Iran for treatment. He was then flown to the USA for further medical care for advanced cancer and died there.
  • In 1981, the Iran-Iraq war took place and Iran forgot all about the Algiers treaty and reopened its borders for separatist chauvinist kurdish infiltrators into Iraq so they can continue pursuing their kurdish state claim there and not on Iranian territory.
  • In 1990, the Kurdish areas became an American/ English “protected zone”.
  • Massoud Barazani, the prodigal son, took over the leadership from his father and so it continued till the second invasion in 2003 until this very day.

Now “our brothers the Kurds” have their own little flag, have excellent ties with Iran, America and Israel who has continued training their peshmergas since 1974.

Not only that, the “poor oppressed gassed kurds” as so many of you like to moan, are ethnically cleansing Kirkuk of all its Turkmen and Arab inhabitants and conducting massive detention raids and imprisoning hundreds. For your information, Kirkuk’s last population census, the only one available, has these figures:
A roughly even distribution between turkmen and arabs. 40% and 38%. The rest is around 22% kurds and some assyrians. Now with the ethnic cleansing undertaken by the chauvinistic kurds, I am not sure what the new pre-arranged figures are.

I know that they were inflated for the “Free elections” that America promised us in our new democracy…

So what gives? “We come not as conquerors or enemies, but as liberators.”

‘[We come not as] conquerors or enemies, but as liberators.’ — Lieutenant General Sir Stanley Maude, Commander in Chief of British forces in Iraq, after entering Baghdad in March 1917.

According to the best estimates, the dozen years of sanctions following Saddam’s invasion of Kuwait led to something like one million deaths in Iraq, including 500,000 children and since the invasion in 2003 a further 650,000 have died as a result of the illegal occupation.

It’s a staggering number of slaughtered people, all done in the name of ‘democracy building’ but it doesn’t stop here, we need to add the slaughtered of the former Yugoslavia and who knows how many massacred in Afghanistan as nobody’s bothering to count. But lest we forget, the invasion and occupation of Vietnam resulted in the slaughter of at least three million Vietnamese and the effects of Agent Orange and the other toxic chemicals dumped on Vietnam is still killing and maiming people to this day.

Redefine, divide and rule

Washington seems determined to fan the flames of internecine conflict in the Middle East.

So, back to the classifications and alliance building game it is. Now, though, the war cry is not the Iraqi, but the Iranian threat. Four years ago, as they prepared for the invasion and occupation of Iraq, the Americans and their allies across the Atlantic filled the air with talk of Shia persecution by Sunni and the need for their deliverance from the wicked Sunni Ba’ath regime. As the Iranian nuclear project climbed to the top of the Bush administration’s agenda, a new set of terms and concepts had to be manufactured. Out went slogans of democratisation, reform and good governance and in came the fearful “Shia Crescent” blooming from the shores of the Mediterranean to the poppy fields of Afghanistan, only to be confronted by the benevolent forces of Sunni moderation. With it came Condoleezza Rice and her diplomatic envoys, this time gracing the Middle East with their visits to ensure good co-operation with “moderate states” and their secret services.

U.S.-Occupied Iraq: Women suffer untold violence

The radio news magazine “Between The Lines” interviewed Yifat Susskind, communications director with MADRE, an an international women’s human rights organisation based in New York City. Yifat is also author of a report on violence against Iraqi women titled, “Promising Democracy, Imposing Theocracy: Gender-Based Violence and the US War on Iraq.” The report, made public on March 6 at a meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations, exposes what it calls “the incidence, causes, and legalization of gender-based violence in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion.”

“I am just like you” says Iraqi teen

While thousands of Iraqis pour across Syria’s borders every day, escaping Iraq’s brutal violence, Danya’s family is one of those caught in the middle. Coming to Syria may ensure one’s physical safety, but the economic reality is harsh. Most Iraqis in Syria are not working, living off their savings instead. Because Danya’s mother has a good job in Iraq the family will remain, at least for now, in Baghdad.

“I’m really scared to go back,” the 14-year old says in English, “but my mother has her work there. I hate my home; it’s very dangerous.”

How Sadr and the US helped each other kill Iraqis …

I have read with utter disgust some of the reports on so-called anti-war websites which have pronounced that Muqtada Sadr is the true face of Iraqi resistance.

But Muqtada flees to Iran every time he hears his father wail from hell (read: US forces enter Iraq for some or that security sweep) or the Iraqi resistance manage to take out some of his commanders.

Fanatical, maniacal, Iran and the mullahs who run it are responsible for more carnage than the US military.

Despite the blunders and massacres committed by US troops, the US is seen to be the lesser of two evils in Iraq, more civilized than the Safavids.

Muqtada, resistance? When it was his people who burned down mosques with worshippers inside? When it was his people who pulled three girls from their homes and set them on fire?

This is the face of your resistance? Muqtada who massacres patriotic and nationalistic Shia tribesmen because Iran told him to do it.

What kind of Iraqi resistance leader flees to Iran? Please, do not mistake the verbal flak from Mehdi rabble to be anything other than putting a brave face on the reality of the situation. Muqtada came because of the US. He thrived because of the US. He rebelled against the US because he rebelled against the man they had chosen for Iraq – Iyad Allawi.

A Profile in Cowardice For U.S. and Sadr, Wary Cooperation

Muqtada Sadr: What a coward and a collaborator. He is a tough guy with his drill team when it comes to terrorizing and killing Iraqis and Palestinians in Iraq and when it comes to ethnic cleansing. When it comes to fighting the occupation, all his empty rhetoric has finally yielded to this: open collaboration with the occupiers and the killers of over 600,000 Iraqis. Now he is hiding somewhere, probably in Iran, wearing a woman’s ‘abaya!

Khalid Shaikh Mohammed may have diverted attention from Alberto Gonzales, but the 9/11 plotter’s testimony exposes the flaws in Bush’s ‘war on terror.’

WHAT TIMING! 9/11 : True Confessions? The Amazing Tale of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed

JURIST Guest Columnist Anthony D’Amato of Northwestern University School of Law says the sweeping Guantanamo “confessions” of al Qaeda leader Khalid Shaikh Mohammed rival the scope of those made in the Stalinist purge trials of the 1930s, and should equally prompt us to question the legal process in which they were made…

Students of the Stalinist purges of the 1930s will recall the astounding confessions made in open court by the accused persons. They had been severely tortured over weeks and months. But they showed up in court without external marks of torture. With all apparent voluntariness, they admitted subverting the Five-Year Plans that would have provided the Soviet people with necessary food items. They sabotaged factories, making sure the production lines were inefficient. They managed to import inferior metals so that Soviet tanks and automobiles would fall apart after a few months’ use. They infiltrated the Soviet Army and through dint of their persuasiveness, convinced the foot soldier that it was absurd to risk his life defending a dictatorial government. In short these accused persons, briefly in court on their way to the firing squad, took responsibility for everything that had gone wrong for the past two decades in the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Khalid Shaikh Mohammed: The Ultimate Patsy “Confesses”

You can trust a press release from a heavily redacted secret military tribunal of a tortured detainee conducted by individuals representative of an oligarchy whose every deception, gross violation of U.S. law, and act of imperial bloodletting over the last six years rests on maintaining the orthodoxy of the official 9/11 myth

Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the alleged “Al-Qaeda mastermind,” has confessed to direct involvement in a myriad of terrorist attacks and assassination plots around the world, including 9/11 “from A to Z,” but some are likely to be disappointed that after 5 years of torture he stopped short of accepting responsibility for killing Kennedy, creating AIDS and being the real Santa Claus.

In his first interview following 9/11, Osama Bin Laden denied any involvement in the attacks.

“I have already said that I am not involved in the 11 September attacks in the United States. As a Muslim, I try my best to avoid telling a lie. I had no knowledge of these attacks, nor do I consider the killing of innocent women, children and other humans as an appreciable act. Islam strictly forbids causing harm to innocent women, children and other people. Such a practice is forbidden even in the course of a battle,” Bin Laden told the Pakistani based Ummat newspaper.

If Bin Laden wasn’t involved in 9/11 then Khalid Shaikh Mohammed’s “confession” is rendered obsolete.

But since Khalid has squealed on the “A to Z” of 9/11, perhaps he can provide some answers to a few troubling little questions that still have us 9/11 “conspiracy nuts” running around in circles;

– Was Khalid Shaikh Mohammed responsible for the FBI ordering the 1993 World Trade Center bombing to go ahead? In his confession, KSM says he ran the attack but fails to explain why it was the FBI who provided the terror cell with the bomb materials through their informant.

– Was Khalid Shaikh Mohammed responsible for NORAD completely reversing its standard operating procedure on the day of 9/11?

– Was Khalid Shaikh Mohammed responsible for the collapse of three steel buildings, one that was not hit by a plane, from fire damage alone for the first and only time in history?

– Was Khalid Shaikh Mohammed responsible for warning, according to Newsweek, a group of top Pentagon officials to cancel their flights on the evening of September 10th due to security concerns?

– Was Khalid Shaikh Mohammed responsible for the record number of ‘put’ options, speculation that the stock of a company will fall, that were placed on American and United Airlines in the days preceding September 11th? This despite a September 10th Reuters report stating ‘airline stocks set to fly.’

– Was Khalid Shaikh Mohammed responsible for blocking FBI anti-terrorism investigations before 9/11 related to the bin Laden family and Saudi charities that were front groups for Al-Qaeda?

– Was Khalid Shaikh Mohammed responsible for advising the Secret Service not to remove President Bush from a completely unsecured Florida elementary school by letting them know he wasn’t a target on 9/11?

Alleged Architect Of 9/11 Confesses To Many Attacks – Believe it or not

In a rambling statement delivered Saturday to a closed-door military tribunal, Mohammed declared himself an enemy of the United States and claimed some responsibility for many of the major terrorist attacks on U.S. and allied targets over more than a decade. He said that he is at war with the United States and that the deaths of innocent people are an unfortunate consequence of that conflict.

Mohammed presented evidence, in the form of a written statement, in which he appears to allege abuse. The tribunal president told Mohammed he had received the statement “regarding certain treatment that you claim to have received” before arriving at Guantanamo Bay.

The tribunal president also asked whether any statements he made under interrogation were “as the result of any of the treatment.” Mohammed answered: “CIA peoples. Yes. At the beginning when they transferred me . . .” The rest of the sentence is redacted from the transcript.

CIA holds young sons of captured al-Qa’eda chief – America Democracy Style

Two young sons of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the suspected mastermind of the September 11 attacks, are being used by the CIA to force their father to talk.

Yousef al-Khalid, nine, and his brother, Abed al-Khalid, seven, were taken into custody in Pakistan last September when intelligence officers raided a flat in Karachi where their father had been hiding.

Their father, Mohammed, 37, is being interrogated at the Bagram US military base in Afghanistan. He is being held in solitary confinement and subjected to “stress and duress”-style interrogation techniques.

He has been told that his sons are being held and he is being encouraged to divulge future attacks against the West and talk about the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden.

CIA’s Harsh Interrogation Techniques Described – Dictatorship

Sources Say Agency’s Tactics Lead to Questionable Confessions, Sometimes to Death

Nov. 18, 2005 — Harsh interrogation techniques authorized by top officials of the CIA have led to questionable confessions and the death of a detainee since the techniques were first authorized in mid-March 2002, ABC News has been told by former and current intelligence officers and supervisors.

Harsh C.I.A. Methods Cited in Top Qaeda Interrogations

WASHINGTON, May 12 — The Central Intelligence Agency has used coercive interrogation methods against a select group of high-level leaders and operatives of Al Qaeda that have produced growing concerns inside the agency about abuses, according to current and former counterterrorism officials.

At least one agency employee has been disciplined for threatening a detainee with a gun during questioning, they said.

In the case of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, a high-level detainee who is believed to have helped plan the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, C.I.A. interrogators used graduated levels of force, including a technique known as “water boarding,” in which a prisoner is strapped down, forcibly pushed under water and made to believe he might drown.

Officials: Mohammed exaggerated claims

A CIA official declined to analyze Mohammed’s statements.

One official cautioned that many of Mohammed’s claims during interrogation were “white noise” — designed to send the U.S. on wild goose chases or to get him through the day’s interrogation session.

In the Defense Department transcript, Mohammed said his statement was not made under duress. But Mohammed and human rights advocates have alleged that he was tortured, and legal experts say that could taint all his statements.

“In light of the rambling nature of his statements, and the views of some that he is prone to exaggerate his importance, we cannot feel confident we know exactly the level of his involvement in various prior attacks,” said Joshua Dressler, a criminal law expert at Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University.

The CIA has denied it uses torture. “The agency’s terrorist interrogation program has been conducted lawfully, with great care and close review, producing vital information that has helped disrupt plots and save lives,” spokesman Paul Gimigliano said.

Can Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s ‘tortured’ testimony be trusted?

On Thursday, NBC’s Today Show explored whether the confessions of alleged 9/11 “mastermind” Khalid Sheikh Mohammed can be trusted, since he claimed to have been tortured after being detained.

“Let’s talk about the issue of torture,” NBC’s Matt Lauer said. “He says in his statement that he didn’t make this statement under duress or pressure, but he does also say that he was tortured by the CIA after his capture.”

Last September, CIA sources told ABC News that the harshest technique they were authorized to use on “high-value detainees, such as the 9/11 attacks architect Khalid Sheikh Mohamed…was called ‘water boarding,’ in which a prisoner’s face was covered with cellophane, and water is poured over it (pictured above) — meant to trigger an unbearable gag reflex.”

A Breakthrough in the War on Terror? I’ll Believe It When We See Some Evidence

. . . True, Mr Mohammed is the uncle of the 1993 World Trade Centre conspirator Ramzi Yousef and a brother of an al-Qa’ida operative. True, another brother was killed in a bomb explosion in Pakistan–he was allegedly making the bomb at the time. But claims that he was the 11 September “mastermind”–“It’s hard to overstate how significant this is,” the ever loquacious Mr Fleischer told the world yesterday–are still unprovable. Hitherto, the nearest to a “mastermind” anyone got was Mounir al-Motassadeq, who was jailed in Germany last month as an accessory to mass murder. . . .

Consider following facts:
But, sometime between then and early Saturday morning, when Mohammed was captured in Pakistan, the U.S. government identified Mohammed as the mastermind behind the al-Qaida plot.–Debra Pickett, “‘Terror Boss’ Moves Up Ladder As U.S. Sees Fit,” Chicago Sun-Times, March 4, 2003]

[Mrs Mahlaqa Khanum is the mother of Ahmed Qadoos, the 42-year-old Pakistani accused of sheltering the mastermind of the September 11 attacks. . . . His mother produced a medical report describing him as a “low IQ person” . . .

“They took my diaries and address book, a box of family photographs, tapes of the Koran that I like listening to and a computer we bought last month for the children.” . . . Qadoos’s daughter Aisha said: “It was our computer. We didn’t even have the internet. It just had some games–Aladdin and The Lion King.” . . .

Was I a good American in the time of George Bush?

Was I a good American? How good an American was I? Did I do what I could to resist the takeover of my country and the brutalisation of my fellow human beings? How much further could I have gone? Were the crimes of the Bush administration those that demand you give up your life and everyday commitments to throw yourself into maximum resistance? If not, then what were we waiting for? The questions have troubled me regularly these last five years, because I was one of the millions of American citizens who did not shut down Guantánamo Bay and stop the other atrocities of the administration.

And there were others who were in resistance all along. I remember with admiration the Japanese-Americans who came out in the months after 9/11 to testify that they had been incarcerated en masse during the second world war, not for what they did but for who they were, and they were not going to remain silent as the same treatment was meted out to Arabs and Muslims. I remember the way that 20,000 of us in San Francisco came out to shut down the business district the day the war broke out, and the huge marches before and after. I remember the few congresspeople – mostly African-American – who dared to stand in opposition early on. I went to Camp Casey outside Bush’s vacation home in Texas and spent a day with Cindy Sheehan, who gave her life over to stopping the war after it took her soldier son. Others did as she did. Some of them are my friends.

Iraqi resistance “winning”

“What happened is that the Americans trained death squads (of Iraqis) in Hungary before the invasion to take on members of one another community. My own cousin, a Shia, was trained in Turkey. But when he was asked to kill Sunnis, he just ran away.

“It was the Americans who spoke about Shia majority areas and Sunni triangles. Iraqis never used such expressions earlier. Despite American propaganda (that only Sunnis are against them), three Shia groups are fighting the Americans.”

I knew that there were militias being used by the Americans very soon, but I have not before heard that there were squads of Iraqis being trained in Hungary prior to the invasion. Of course it wouldn’t be surprising: the CIA used Iraqi exile groups to launch a series of terror campaigns in Iraq during the 1990s, including the blowing up of a schoolbus. They would presumably have reckoned that they might need to wage a terror war, even if they totally underestimated the scale of resistance.

Attacks in Iraq hit all-time high

THE number of attacks in Iraq during the last three months of 2006 was the highest for any such period since 2003, a Pentagon progress report to Congress said today.

“Although most attacks continue to be directed against coalition forces, Iraqi civilians suffer the vast majority of the casualties,” the report said.

The quarterly report – Stability and Security in Iraq – did not reflect security conditions since the start of the year when the United States increased the number of troops in Baghdad to try break a spiral of sectarian violence.

Echoing a recent US intelligence estimate, it said the term “civil war” did not capture the complexity of the conflict, which included “extensive” sectarian violence but also attacks on coalition forces and criminality.

U.S. tolerates Shiite militias

In Baghdad, American officials seem increasingly willing to tolerate some of those Shiite militias as long as they patrol their own neighborhoods. Administration officials said they had eased up on parts of the timetable for re-integrating former Baathists, for fear of a Shiite backlash.

Hillary Clinton: Iraqi Occuption Will Continue If I’m President

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton foresees a “remaining military as well as political mission” in Iraq, and says that if elected president, she would keep a reduced military force there to fight Al Qaeda, deter Iranian aggression, protect the Kurds and possibly support the Iraqi military.

In a half-hour interview on Tuesday in her Senate office, Mrs. Clinton said the scaled-down American military force that she would maintain would stay off the streets in Baghdad and would no longer try to protect Iraqis from sectarian violence — even if it descended into ethnic cleansing.

In outlining how she would handle Iraq as commander-in-chief, Mrs. Clinton articulated a more nuanced position than the one she has provided at her campaign events, where she has backed the goal of “bringing the troops home.”

She said in the interview that there were “remaining vital national security interests in Iraq” that would require a continuing deployment of American troops.

This stance deserves deep consideration by Democratic primary voters. It’s a genuinely and deeply conservative foreign policy strategy, involving indefinitely keeping US troops in Iraq for unspecified national security interests while calling the war over.

Hillary Clinton’s promise to continue the Iraqi occupation will become the Democratic Party platform if she is the nominee. This is a very dangerous roadmap for the Democrats.

Israel’s right to be racist

Israel’s struggle for peace is a sincere one. In fact, Israel desires to live at peace not only with its neighbours, but also and especially with its own Palestinian population, and with Palestinians whose lands its military occupies by force. Israel’s desire for peace is not only rhetorical but also substantive and deeply psychological. With few exceptions, prominent Zionist leaders since the inception of colonial Zionism have desired to establish peace with the Palestinians and other Arabs whose lands they slated for colonisation and settlement. The only thing Israel has asked for, and continues to ask for in order to end the state of war with the Palestinians and its Arab neighbours, is that all recognise its right to be a racist state that discriminates by law against Palestinians and other Arabs and grants differential legal rights and privileges to its own Jewish citizens and to all other Jews anywhere. The resistance that the Palestinian people and other Arabs have launched against Israel’s right to be a racist state is what continues to stand between Israel and the peace for which it has struggled and to which it has been committed for decades. Indeed, this resistance is nothing less than the “New anti- Semitism”.

While organizations that focus on Israel-Palestine have long been aware that Israeli border officials regularly strip search men and women, If Americans Knew appears to be the first organization that has specifically investigated the policy of strip searching women. In the course of its investigation, If Americans Knew was astonished to learn that Israeli officials have also been strip searching young girls as young as seven and below.

Take No Prisoners – War Criminal

Another proud moment in U.S. Military History. U.S. Marines execute an Iraqi to the cheers of fellow marines

1. U.S. ENEMY PRISONER OF WAR (EPW) AND CIVILIAN INTERNEE (CI) OPERATIONS INSTRUCTIONS
Basic U.S. policy underlying the treatment accorded EPW and all other enemy personnel captured, interned, or otherwise held in U.S. Army custody during the course of a conflict requires and directs that all such personnel be accorded humanitarian care and treatment from the moment of custody until final release or repatriation. The observance of this policy is fully and equally binding upon U.S. personnel, whether capturing troops, custodial personnel, or in whatever other capacity they may be serving. This policy is equally applicable for the protection of all detained or interned personnel, whether their status is that of prisoner of war, civilian internee, or any other category. It is applicable whether they are known to have, or are suspected of having, committed serious offenses which could be characterized as a war crime. The punishment of such persons is administered by due process of law and under the legally constituted authority. The administration of inhumane treatment, even if committed under stress of combat and with deep provocation, is a serious and punishable violation under national law, international law, and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Violations of this policy, and the laws and regulations may result in an individual being prosecuted as a war criminal. Anyone observing a violation of law, or suspecting one has happened, has a positive legal obligation to report it to appropriate authorities. Failure to do so is a violation in itself. Continued

War Criminal : GI ‘ordered to kill Iraq prisoners’

A US soldier has testified that his commander ordered him to kill three Iraqi detainees, then cut him with a knife to make it look as if there had been a struggle.

Specialist William Hunsaker told a court martial for Ray Girouard on Tuesday that the staff sergeant ordered him and another soldier to free the men, then shoot them as they ran.

“They’re going to cut the ties, tell them to run, shoot them,” Hunsaker quoted Girouard as saying.

Girouard, 24, is the last and most senior soldier from the 101st Airborne Division to face trial in the killings, which occurred during a May 9 raid on a suspected fighters’ camp near Samarra.

Hunsaker and Private First Class Corey Clagett have already pleaded guilty and co-operated with prosecutors. They were sentenced to 18 years in military prison.

Psychopath War Criminal : US officer “upset” Iraqi suspects taken alive, court hears

A US military officer sounded “pretty mad and upset” that a group of soldiers had taken suspected Iraqi insurgents alive during a raid in which they had been told to kill all military-aged males, a court was told Tuesday.

A soldier who has pleaded guilty to killing those detainees told the court that he shot them because his squad leader told him to do it after having been reprimanded when he radioed back to base to say he had prisoners to transport.

Private William Hunsaker showed little remorse for his crimes, saying he had only agreed to an 18-year sentence because “I got tired of lying to everybody and I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life in prison for — in my eyes — killing three terrorists.”

Hunsaker was testifying at the court-martial of Staff Sergeant Raymond Girouard, 24, the highest-ranking soldier among four charged in the May 9, 2006, incident and the only soldier who did not plead guilty.

He described how Girouard gathered the squad in a house, told them that the officer at the command post was “pretty mad and upset” that the prisoners were still alive and then told them how to cover up the murders.

“He tells us to cut the ties, let them loose and shoot them,” Hunsaker told the court before describing how he aimed his gun at the heart of one of the prisoners.

After the three men were dead, “Girouard boots me over, flips open his pocketknife and said ‘it’s got to look good'” before cutting Hunsaker’s face and arm to make it look like he was injured in a struggle as the prisoners tried to escape, Hunsaker told the court.

WAR CRIME : IT’S THOSE HOMOS AGAIN

The U.S. Marines are incredibly adept at killing people. Most know 1,583 methods of killing somebody and re-arranging the victim’s body parts within five seconds. However, some were not taught a basic trait that encompasses all of humanity: when to keep your mouth shut.

Yesterday, the Chairman for the Joint Chiefs of Staff (U.S.), Marine General Peter Pace, made some statements that prove he does not know when to keep quiet. I suppose he feels that an 18-star general has the right to publicly berate individuals. They also have the right to practice an act that is not illegal in the U.S.: stupidity.

Closing the gap between torturer and victim

In Andrew Cockburn’s new book, Rumsfeld, the gap between rampant power and its faraway victims is closed. Donald Rumsfeld, US secretary of defence until last year and a designer of the Iraq bloodbath, is revealed as personally directing from his office in the Pentagon the torture of fellow human beings, exploiting “individual phobias, such as fear of dogs, to induce stress” and use of “a wet towel and dripping water to induce the misperception of suffocation”. Cockburn’s documented evidence shows that other Bush mafiosi, such as Paul Wolfowitz, now president of the World Bank, “had already agreed that Rumsfeld should approve all but
the most severe options, such as the wet towel, without restriction”.

You would not know this on either side of the Atlantic unless you studied carefully. The propaganda that converts a lively, open democracy to an “authoritarian” dictatorship is written on the rusted crosses of Salvador Allende’s comrades, of whom the same was said. It is disseminated by the embittered effete whose liberal hero was Blair, until he made an embarrassing mess, and who now claim the respectability of “the left” in order to disguise their mentoring by the likes of Wolfowitz, their promotion of Dick Cheney’s ludicrous “world Islamic empire” and, above all, their passion for wars whose spilt blood is never theirs.

Rumsfeld: his rise, fall and catastrophic legacy ” by Andrew Cockburn is published in the United States by Scribner

9/11 : 12-Year-Old Detainees at GITMO

As for the juveniles, there were at least three boys in Camp Iguana between 12 and 14 years old. There were at least 6 others, by the way, who were 15 or 16, definitely younger than 18, in general population. The three in Camp Iguana I met weekly. We were led to believe they were “hard core terrorists” but this was utterly ridiculous. The guards in charge of them would frequently discipline them with “time-outs” just as many American parents discipline their own children.

Islamophobia : Behind Burqa, Student Gets An Education In Bigotry

COLCHESTER — Caitlin Dean was raised not to discriminate against others because of their race or religion. But as a white suburban teen of Italian and Irish descent, she often wondered what it would be like to be the target of such abuse. She found out “behind the burqa.”

The 15-year-old freshman volunteered with a few other students to wear traditional Muslim clothing to school for an entire day in February after a Middle Eastern Studies teacher at Bacon Academy announced that she was looking for students to promote her class by wearing the garb. Caitlin covered her slender frame and short brown hair with a periwinkle burqa, which concealed her face.

The hateful and abusive comments she endured that day horrified teachers, the teen and many of her classmates. The remarks underscored a persistent animosity toward American Muslims that is driven largely by the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. But they also opened up an important dialogue that could help teenagers in Colchester and across the state view the Muslim culture differently.

“Hey, we rape your women!” one upperclassman said as he passed Caitlin in the hallway.

“I hope all of your people die,” another sniped.

“You’re probably going to kill us all” and “Why do they let people like this in the country?” were other remarks she heard on Feb. 1.

Just and Unjust War

There are some people who do not question war. In 1972, the general who was head of the U.S. Strategic Air Command told an interviewer, “I’ve been asked often about my moral scruples if I had to send the planes out with hydrogen bombs. My answer is always the same. I would be concerned only with my professional responsibility.”

It was a Machiavellian reply. Machiavelli did not ask if making war was right or wrong. He just wrote about the best way to wage it so as to conquer the enemy. One of his books is called The Art of War.

Granted that we have started in this century with the notion of just war, we don’t have to keep it. Perhaps the change in our thinking can be as dramatic, as clear, as that in the life of a French general, whose obituary in 1986 was headed: “Gen. Jacques Paris de Bollardiere, War Hero Who Became a Pacifist, Dead at the age of 78.”

He had served in the Free French Forces in Africa during World War II, later parachuted into France and Holland to organize the Resistance, and commanded an airborne unit in Indochina from 1946 to 1953. But in 1957, according to the obituary, he “caused an uproar in the French army when he asked to be relieved of his command in Algeria to protest the torture of Algerian rebels. In 1961 he began to speak out against militarism and nuclear weapons. He created an organization called The Alternative Movement for Non-Violence and in 1973 participated in a protest expedition to France’s South Pacific nuclear testing site.

It remains to be seen how many people in our time will make that journey from war to nonviolent action against war. It is the great challenge or our time: How to achieve justice, with struggle, but without war.

Damn Right, We’re Angry

We’re angry because of what has happened to our country, because of how we’ve been treated, and because of the innumerable crimes the conservatives have committed. We’re angry at the president, we’re angry at the Congress, we’re angry at the news media. And we have every right to be.

Yes, we’re angry at George W. Bush. We’re not angry at him because of who he sleeps with, and we’re not angry at him because we think he represents some socio-cultural movement we didn’t like 40 years ago, or because he hung out with a different crowd than we did in high school. We’re angry at him because of what he’s done.

Fake Iraq War Reason : ABC’s Brian Ross unmasks ‘Curveball’

Curveball, the Iraqi defector whose fabricated claims that Iraq was developing weapons of mass destruction were used by the administration in its case for war, remains in the protection of the German intelligence service, reports ABC News’ Brian Ross.

Intelligence gathered from Curveball became the centerpiece of then Secretary of State Colin Powell’s address to the United Nation, urging military action in Iraq. “It was almost that which made the whole case seem effective. It was just so dramatic,” said Powell’s chief of staff Col. Lawrence Wilkerson.

But a CIA official who headed European Operations at the agency, Tyler Drumheller, said that he warned both the State Department and the CIA that Curveball was a fabricator and lacked credibility. “We said, ‘This is from Curveball. Don’t use this,'” Drumheller revealed.

Iraq War : Fake Congressional Opposition to War

The US electorate sent a clear, unequivocal message in the November mid-term elections. End the Iraq war and bring home the troops. Many supporting war in the 109th Congress lost out to more moderate voices taking over their seats because voters want change and expect new faces to deliver starting with the top issue on voters’ minds in recent polls – Iraq. A majority of the public demands it, protests and heated rhetoric continue building over it, and the Congress is about to disappoint again proving getting into war is easy but even an act of Congress can’t get us out because doing nothing is less risky than taking a stand against the prevailing view in Washington.

New Zionist lie: exchanging Arab and Jewish refugees

While some Jews were expelled from Arab countries, the majority left voluntarily, invited, enticed and even intimidated into going to Israel to swell the Jewish population as part and parcel of the Zionist program. Most of this happened not between 1947-1948 (the years of active violence that resulted in the Palestinian refugees being ethnically cleansed; see http:/ ? palestineremembered.com) but in the 20 years after.

In any case, the Palestinian refugees did not expel Jews from their homes in Arab countries. In fact, some actions by Mossad and Zionist agents were needed to increase Jewish flight, according to documents analyzed by Tom Segev. Palestinian human rights should not be contingent on the actions of states (Israel or the Arab States) over which they had no control. There are Israeli Jews of Arab origin who do demand restitution for their property and Palestinians fully support their claims and internationally recognized right of return. The Israeli government, however, has never been willing to fight for their rights, because it knows that by doing so it would implicitly recognize that expulsion and dispossession are wrong, whether the victims are Jews or Palestinians. The governments of Morocco, Egypt, Iraq and Yemen (unlike Israel) always stated that those who left are welcome to return.

Germany’s Schizophrenic Approach to Freedom of Speech

My God, if irresponsibility precluded people from being able to freely speak out, the entire Merkel and Bush governments would be forever silenced! Their irresponsibility knows no bounds. The German state just gave Israel another modern Dolphin submarine capable of carrying nuclear tipped cruise missiles knowing full well that the Israelis have had the capability since at least 2000. Are we really to believe that this was a “responsible” decision? Please. The Israelis are at present threatening Iran, a nation of 70 million souls with annihilation if they don’t disassemble their nonexistent nuclear weapons program. UN to open permanent probe on Israel

The United Nation’s Human Rights Council is expected to place Israel under permanent investigation for its “violations” of international law in the territories – until such time as it withdraws to the pre-1967 border – according to Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch.

Since its inception, the 47-member body – which includes Cuba, Saudi Arabia and China – has continued to single out the Jewish State. It has issued eight anti-Israel resolutions, and none against any other nation. It has also held three special sessions on Israel.

Israel has been “singled out” is based on what it has done – and is doing – in the Palestinian territories.

And fortunately, in this age of instant communication, cell phone cameras, etc., these human rights abuses cannot be hidden any more.

U.S. allies in Africa may have engaged in secret prisoner renditions

NAIROBI, Kenya – A network of U.S. allies in East Africa secretly have transferred to prisons in Somalia and Ethiopia at least 80 people who were captured in Kenya while fleeing the recent war in Somalia, according to human rights advocates here.

Kenyan authorities made the arrests as part of a U.S.-backed, four-nation military campaign in December and January against Somalia’s Islamist militias, which Bush administration officials have linked to al-Qaida.

At least 150 prisoners, who included men and women of 17 nationalities and children as young as 7 months, were held in Kenya for several weeks before most of them were transferred covertly to Somalia and Ethiopia, where they’re being held incommunicado, the groups charge.

The mercenary’s guide to the “Arab Psyche”

Blackwater USA has an intriguing guide to Arab culture. Let me lay some of this on you:

“Arab behavior has a propensity for conflict.”
“The style of Arab parenting is responsible for much of their behavioral traits according to the noted Arab cultural expert, Dr. Raphael Patai who claims that Arab children have difficulty establishing a predictable pattern arid a differentiation between love and discipline. This fluctuation between a loving mother and stern disciplinarian father can add to the complexity of growing up and often fosters schizoid personality traits. Many Arabists have commented on the rapid change of Arab emotions and reasoning. Lawrence of Arabia spoke of this when he said that the Arabs view ‘everything black or white with no middle ground.'”

Comment : Oh that explains everything. Loving mother, deranged father = shizo Arabs. CBH now we know what your problem is.

The Iraqi “Government” has arrested the woman raped by three Iraqi policemen

Remembered Sabrine Janabi’s Case : This Woman arrested over police rape claims

The Iraqi Government has arrested a woman who alleged last month that she was raped by three Iraqi policemen, claims that provoked a spate of sectarian killing, two Iraqi officials told The Times.

Sabrine Janabi’s rape case has polarised Iraq’s Sunni and Shia communities at a moment when the country is already enmeshed in a low-level civil war. Shia officials have accused her of being a proxy for Sunni militants who want to sabotage a security plan for Baghdad, while Sunni politicians have pointed to her story as proof of the sectarian nature of Shia Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s Government.

Rape is a taboo subject in Arab culture and the news of Janabi’s rape sparked anger in the Sunni community.

In turn, the Government accused Janabi of being paid by insurgents to make her claims. An arrest warrant was issued and Janabi then vanished from the scene.

Naked, drunk, surrounded by sex toys – it’s the Israeli ambassador

As an Israeli ambassador, Tsuriel Raphael was accomplished at putting a gloss on delicate subjects, be it Tel Aviv’s nuclear programme, the treatment of Palestinians or the invasion of Lebanon.

When San Salvador police discovered him in his official embassy residence yard in the capital San Salvador, however, smooth talk was not really an option. For starters there was the gag and the rubber ball in his mouth. There was also the matter of being drunk. And naked. And bound. And surrounded by sex toys.

Once he was untied and the gag and ball were removed Mr Raphael identified himself as the ambassador but for perhaps the first time in his diplomatic career, this was a crisis he could not explain away.

60 years of faulty logic : Dictatorship

03/12/07 “The Boston Globe” — – BOSTON: Sixty years ago Monday, Harry Truman went before a joint session of Congress to announce what became known as the Truman Doctrine. “At the present moment in world history, nearly every nation must choose between alternative ways of life.” With that, an era of bipolarity was inaugurated, dividing the world between forces of good and evil.

The speech amounted, as one of Truman’s advisers characterized it, to a declaration of religious war. In the transcendent struggle between Moscow and Washington, “nonalignment” was not an option. Truman declared that the United States would actively support “free” people anywhere who were resisting either internal or external threats to that freedom. The “free world” was born, but so, eventually, were disastrous wars in Korea and Vietnam.

The occasion of Truman’s pronouncement was his decision to militarily support one side in the civil war in Greece, and with that, the deadly precedent of American intervention in foreign civil wars was set. Fear of Communism became a driving force of politics and a justification for vast military expenditures.

Nine days after announcing the Truman Doctrine, the president issued an executive order mandating loyalty oaths and security checks for federal employees, the start of the domestic red scare. The “paranoid style” of American life, in Richard Hofstadter’s phrase, was set.

War Criminal : British judge says headquarters okayed Iraq abuse

BULLFORD, England, March 12 (Reuters) – A judge said on Monday the reason he had ordered charges dropped against the most senior British officer to be tried for prisoner abuse in Iraq was because headquarters had approved some of the abuses.

The British military has denied that its commanders approved abusing prisoners.

But a witness, Major Anthony Royce, testified during a court martial of seven other soldiers over the death of an Iraqi hotel receptionist that some abuse was approved by higher-ups at British brigade headquarters.

Three weeks ago Judge Stuart McKinnon ordered cases dropped against five of the soldiers, including the former commander of the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Jorge Mendonca. They were part of a group charged with prisoner abuse that led to the death of one inmate in custody in 2003.

House oversight chairman wants Rice to answer Niger uranium lies

Washington, D.C. – The new chairman of a House investigative committee is demanding answers to questions he put to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice nearly four years ago about President Bush’s assertion that Iraq once sought uranium from Africa.

The new chairman of a House investigative committee is demanding answers to questions he put to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice nearly four years ago about President Bush’s assertion that Iraq once sought uranium from Africa.

In a letter released Monday, Rep. Henry Waxman said Rice responded to only five of 16 letters about the issue when he was the committee’s ranking Democrat — only those that had been co-signed by congressional Republicans.

“I am now renewing my request as the chairman of the chief oversight committee in the U.S. House of Representatives,” he wrote.

The uranium claim, which Bush made in his 2003 State of the Union address, was a key element in the administration’s case for the invasion of Iraq. Rice was President Bush’s national security adviser at the time.

Waxman to Rice: Answer 11 ignored letters on Iraq claims

The Chairman of the House’s Oversight and Government Reform Committee today demanded that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice respond to 11 outstanding requests for information sent by his office since 2003. The letters primarily concerned claims, later proved erroneous, on the threat posed to the United States by Saddam Hussein’s government in the run up to the Iraq War.

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) warned Dr. Rice that a failure to respond to his committee’s inquiries would undermine Constitutional governance.

“Refusing to allow officials to testify before Congress…or ignoring congressional requests for information, as you apparently ignored my inquiries, are not consistent with our constitutional system of government,” said the Committee’s Chairman in a letter released today.

`US acted like witch hunter in making case for war on Iraq`- Hanz Blix

London, March 12: Former UN chief weapons inspector Hans Blix has said that the US administration acted like a witch hunter while making out a case to attack Iraq and the British Government replaced “question marks with exclamation marks” in intelligence dossiers.

“They wanted to see anything as evidence that the Iraqis had weapons of mass destruction,” Blix said in an interview broadcast by Britain’s Sky News today.

Tony Blair’s government published a dossier before the invasion which claimed Saddam Hussein had stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons and could deploy some within 45 minutes.

“I do think they exercised spin. They put exclamation marks instead of question marks,” Blix said.

No weapons of mass destruction were found after the war, according to Lord Butler’s 2004 official inquiry into intelligence on Iraq.

Confessions of a Torturer: The story of U.S. Army interrogator Tony Lagouranis

“They were talking about using sexual humiliation on these guys, or certain stress positions they had used, or in Afghanistan they would make the guy sit in the snow naked for long periods of time. They said that the detainees that they had were not covered by the Geneva Conventions, which I continued to hear in Iraq too.”

He arrived in Iraq in January 2004 and was stationed at Abu Ghraib, landing there ten days after Specialist Joseph Darby delivered the now infamous photographs of prisoner abuse to army investigators. “When we got there we didn’t know what had happened, but the army knew, and they were making sure that things were cleaned up at Abu Ghraib.”

“You might think this is not a good defense either, but the things that I did weren’t really that horrible. I mean, I saw some really horrible torture. And I’m sure like every torturer would say this‘Other people are doing worse things.’

The (US) Army is ordering injured troops to go to Iraq

At Fort Benning, soldiers who were classified as medically unfit to fight are now being sent to war. Is this an isolated incident or a trend?

Last week, I wrote about the ABC report on the number of injured, wounded, traumatized US soldiers returning from Iraq.

It was a dismal report, to be sure, but hey – you voted for the bastard and his clique, bite your tongues.

In any case, it just gets worse and worse.

When Does Opposition to Israel and Zionism Indicate Anti-Semitism?

Apparently, when you depict Israeli bulldozers destroying Palestinian schools, then you should know that you are anti-Semitic monster. The latest Zionist fart slammed NBC for what they call an ‘anti-Semitic’ TV show. Law and Order: Criminal Intent, a fictional police drama broadcast across America on NBC, centers on a journalist who is poisoned after his girlfriend uncovers a foul-up by Israeli intelligence.

The show depicts Israeli bulldozers destroying Palestinian schools, with at least one character referring to “Israeli brutality.”

A little-noticed provision slipped into the Patriot Act in 2005 allows the President to appoint “interim” U.S. attorneys for an indefinite period of time, without Senate confirmation. On Jan. 18, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales assured the Senate Judiciary Committee that the administration never intended to take advantage of it

Giuliani tied to pedophilia

Rudy Giuliani – What gets covered regarding morals?

This is about a story that for some crack-pot reason is not getting written up by the national media, even though if you do just a mite of googleing, you’ll discover that the Right Wing has long had the story, but gotten no traction on it. To read all the bloody details, what you do is google the two names, Alan Placa and Rudy Giuliani, and you can read about it for hours, should you have a taste for Priestly Pedophilia and the investigations of recent years thereof. I’ll sketch an outline of the story here.
