4 Common Myths about the War on Terrorism

By Reese Erlich

November 19, 2010 —  I’m finishing up a 25-city book tour that took me from New York and Chicago to Elizabethtown, PA, and Spearfish, SD. I met with college students, farmers and laid-off workers. Most people in the US now oppose the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, but I found a lot of confusion about the War on Terrorism.

Here are four of the more commonly asked questions:

1. Isn’t it true that while not all Muslims are terrorists, all terrorists are Muslims?

Well, just asking the question reveals a lot about how those in power have manipulated our concept of terrorism.

92% of Afghans Never Heard of 9/11

By Daniel Tence

November 20, 2010 “Truthdig” —  Fewer than one in 10 Afghans are aware of the 9/11 attacks and their precipitation of the war in Afghanistan, says a study from an international think tank.

A report (PDF) from the International Council on Security and Development (ICOS) shows that 92 percent of those surveyed had never heard of the coordinated multiple attacks on US soil on September 11, 2001. It also shows that four in 10 Afghans believe the US is on their soil in order to “destroy Islam or occupy Afghanistan.”

What If NATO Is Defeated In Afghanistan?

By Eric S. Margolis

November 20, 2010Information Clearing House— Amazing as it sounds, NATO, the world’s most powerful military alliance, may be losing the only war the 61-year old pact every fought. All its soldiers, heavy bombers, tanks, helicopter gunships, armies of mercenaries, and electronic gear are being beaten by a bunch of lightly-armed Afghan farmers and mountain tribesmen.

How The Zionist Press Reacts To Criticism Of Israel

British Politician: ‘Israel is the Root Cause of Terrorism’

Liberal Democratic peer asks why world allows Israel’s treatment of Palestinians to continue – “Is it Holocaust guilt?”

By JONNY PAUL

November 15, 2010 “JPost” — LONDON – In the second attack on Israel by Liberal Democrat politicians in the same week that the party’s leader said the party got it wrong on Israel, Jenny Tonge claimed on Friday that Israel’s treatment of Palestinians is the root cause of terrorism worldwide.

Possibly “Holocaust guilt” allows this treatment to go unchecked, Tonge said, adding that it might also be the “power of the pro-Israel lobby” in the UK and US.

The Liberal Democrat peer was speaking in the House of Lords at the Strategic Defense and Security Review, which sets out how the British government will deliver the priorities identified in its national security strategy.

On the issue of world conflict prevention, Tonge then said: “It is a disgrace to us all that problems such as Kashmir and Palestine are still alienating Muslims all over the world.

“The treatment of Palestinians by Israel is held up as an example of how the West treats Muslims,” she said, “and is at the root cause of terrorism worldwide.”

“Even [the Quartet’s Middle East envoy] Tony Blair has now admitted this publicly,” she claimed.

“Why do we let it continue? Is it Holocaust guilt? We should be guilty – of course we should. Is it the power of the pro-Israel lobby here and in the USA?” The peer went on say that “cynics might think” Britain is at the ready to help Israel attack Iran.

How US-UK Create ‘Terrorist’ States: Yemen as a Case Study

How to create your very own terrorist state

Tim Coles takes us through 11 steps necessary to create a “terrorist state”. Using Yemen as a case study, he argues that these steps precisely match US and British policies in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran as well as Yemen to grow “very poisonous seeds”, some which have ripened while others are ripening.

So, you want to create your own terrorist state, do you? Follow these simple instructions and you will be able to grow “very poisonous seeds. These seeds are growing now. Some have ripened and others are ripening,” as Eqbal Ahmad explained.

In 2002, the Bush administration’s National Security Strategy (NSS) made it clear that America, with Britain’s help, intends to increase terrorism by chasing terrorists around the world instead of capturing them, or, better still, addressing their grievances – this is the real world, after all, which is dominated by financial interests, so there’s no time for rational solutions here.

AS MANY AS 90% OF THOSE CLAIMING TO BE HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS MAY BE FRAUDS

By Gordon Duff STAFF WRITER/Senior Editor

Last week, 17 men were arrested in New York for defrauding Germany out of $42 million in payments to phony holocaust survivors.  Tens of thousands of American Jews had filed for pensions from Germany claiming to be concentration camp survivors.  All swore they had been in the camps, told stories about gas chambers, human skin lampshades and such but not a single one had been in a camp at all.  The state of Israel claims to have, alive today, nearly one million holocaust survivors.

As many as 90% of these may well be, not only frauds but many could easily be former concentration camp guards themselves, far more likely than surviving death camps.  What better place to hide than Israel?

IF THIS IS NOT APARTHEID, THEN WHAT IS?

IF THIS IS NOT APARTHEID, THEN WHAT IS?

14. Nov, 2010

“Apartheid is a crime against humanity. Israel has deprived millions of Palestinians of their liberty and property. It has perpetuated a system of gross racial discrimination and Inequality” Nelson Mandela.

by Allan Boesak and Farid Esack*

In the opening lines of an open letter to Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, Rabbi Warren Goldstein, leader of the South Africa’s Orthodox Jews, makes a plea that: ”Without truth there can be no justice, and without justice there can be no peace.” If ever there was a case of a single swallow not heralding summer, alas, this is it. The rest of his article bears little relationship to the truth:

1. “Jew and Arab – are equal before the law.”

Goldstein conflates life inside Israel and life in the occupied territories. Jews and Palestinian citizens in Israel are certainly not equal before the law: one set of laws does provide for equal rights, but another equally formidable set provides for separate and superior rights for Jews. Presently Israel has several Basic Laws that confirm this inequality, so the system is codified and formal: discrimination within Israel is official. A state founded for any ethnic or religious community cannot but be one that must necessarily discriminate against others. In the occupied Palestinian territories, Jews enjoy special protections and rights to settle and conduct business, and Palestinian civilians as non-Jews are denied those rights.

WRITTEN CONFESSIONS OF A WAR CRIMINAL

November 14, 2010 at 10:22

George Bush actually wrote a book…. sort of a confession to be used in an upcoming trial at the International Court of Law (hopefully). Everything he wrote can and will be used against him.

In the book he wrote about his legacy to America; But, it is based on lies, deceit, crimes of war and against humanity, and complicity in criminal fraud, a disgusting record deserving denunciation and prison, not shameless feting.Yet his new book, “Decision Points,” attempts the impossible, a brazen scheme to reinvent a war criminal, one of history’s greatest, his legacy marked by:

– neocon hellishness;

– duplicity and public betrayal;

– a disdain for human rights and civil liberties;

– lawlessness;

– racist hatemongering;

Will Bush be tried as war criminal?‎

Wed Nov 10, 2010 9:42AM

Many human rights activists believe that George W. Bush is a war criminal who should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity.

Former US President George W. Bush, who is responsible for waging two wars on Afghanistan and Iraq, is back on media covers, but this time as a figure who has been wronged.

Following the release of his memoir entitled “Decision Points” last week, Bush made a media tour after nearly two years of silence, once again raising controversy over his remarks.

‘Bush must be held culpable for crimes’‎

Interview with Cynthia McKinney, former US congresswoman

Former US President George W. Bush has said he will not apologize for his mistakes in the 2003 Iraq invasion and defended his decision to allow torture of 9/11 detainees.

The following is Press TV’s interview with former US Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney on the issue:

Press TV: Bush says although there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, the decision to invade the country was the right one, what do you make of that given the fact that the war was launched on the premise that there were Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq?

McKinney: I think our former president is shedding crocodile tears here. That is what we call it, when people say that they are sorry for something that has happened, but they do not really express remorse.

There is no remorse here. George W. Bush is as wrong now as he was a president. He should be brought [to justice] on charges and held accountable for his actions. The question is: Does the international community have the will to do this?

Press TV: In Britain, there are growing calls for Tony Blair to stand trial because of the Iraq war. Where does George Bush stand in here since he was the one who pushed hard for this war on behalf of the US leadership?

McKinney: George Bush travelled all over Europe, demanding of the leaders of the European countries to betray their own people and go to war [along] with the United States. So, if Tony Blair is held culpable, so too should George W. Bush.

Press TV: How different is Barack Obama, do you think he will face similar charges over the continuation of the Afghanistan war and its expansion to Pakistan and now possibly Yemen?

McKinney: Their war crimes have not stopped. Their crimes against humanity have not stopped. Their crimes against peace have not stopped. There are some people who will make a distinction between a Democratic Party war and a Republican Party war, but they are all the same with the same war crimes that are being committed. So, [the US President Barack] Obama follows in the steps of his predecessor George W. Bush.

‘Prosecuted or not Bush is criminal’

Wed Nov 10, 2010 10:55AM

Interview with Mike Gravel, former US senator3

Former US President George W. Bush has said the 2003 Iraq invasion was not wrong and defended his decision in allowing the torture of 9/11 detainees.

The following is the transcript of Press TV’s interview with Mike Gravel, a former US senator, about the issue:

Press TV: George Bush has defended his war and torture decisions, what do you make of his statements?

Gravel: It is very clear he has just confessed to a crime and he has done that in his memoir.

The fact that our government will not prosecute that crime does not obviate the fact that he has confessed to a crime. We have not pursued the fact that he [must be] prosecuted for invasion of Iraq on phony fraudulent information.

So here again, we have a situation where George Bush exposes himself naked to world condemnation with his own memoir. The Guy is preposterous in this regard.

All I can say is that, maybe down the road, there will be an agency of government or we may have an American government that is interested in bringing about justice as these confessions, all by themselves, will be able to be used against George Bush and his administration.

It is a tragedy of American judicial system that [US President Barack] Obama made the decision and will not look back. When a country does not seek justice, it is not a country that will enjoy the full favor of democracy.

‘Bush must be brought to justice’

Wed Nov 10, 2010 12:46PM

[http://www.presstv.ir/player/player.swf]
Former US president George W. Bush should be prosecuted for the war crimes he has committed in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, a US politician says.

“Bush is as wrong now as he was president. He should be brought up on charges and held accountable for his actions,” former US congresswoman Cynthia McKinney said in an interview with Press TV on Tuesday.

Referring to the growing calls for former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to stand trial because of the Iraq war, McKinney argued that if “Blair is held culpable, so too should George W. Bush.”

“Bush travelled all over Europe, demanding from the leaders of the European countries to betray their own people and go to war [along] with the United States,” she said.

Bush has said he will not apologize for his mistakes in the 2003 invasion of Iraq and defended his decision to allow torture of 9/11 detainees.

The 43rd president of the United States has abdicated all responsibilities for the deaths of Iraqi and Afghan civilians, claiming that even though he “feels terrible” for the deaths, they were inevitable as they were for a better cause — that is the so-called “liberation” of millions of other civilians.

“I think our former president is shedding crocodile tears here. That is what we call it, when people say that they are sorry for something that has happened, but they do not really express remorse,” the former congresswoman said.

Amnesty International (AI) wants Bush on trial over torture

Wed Nov 10, 2010 3:45PM

Former President George W. Bush admitted to authorizing water-boarding against detainees.
The London-based Amnesty International (AI) has called for a criminal investigation into former US President George W. Bush’s admission of torture.

The rights group’s call comes after Bush confirmed in his recently released memoirs, Decision Points, that he authorized the use of “enhanced interrogation techniques” against detainees held in secret US custody.

Exactly six days after the September 11 attacks, Bush authorized the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to set up secret detention facilities outside the US.

Amnesty claims multiple human rights violations were committed against detainees in the name of the so-called ‘war on terror.’

Imperialism, Islamophobia, and Torture

By Adam Hudson, published October, 2010

During the Nuremberg Trials, the chief American prosecutor, Robert H. Jackson, famously stated[i]: “To initiate a war of aggression, therefore, is not only an international crime; it is the supreme international crime differing only from other war crimes in that it contains within itself the accumulated evil of the whole.” America has a long history of war and its accumulated evils. It began as thirteen small colonies that sat along the Atlantic coast. In over a century, the United States expanded all the way to the Pacific Ocean – from sea to shining sea. The process was not pretty. It involved the genocide of the native Americans and the enslavement of millions of black Africans whose free labor was needed to fuel the American capitalist economy. At the dawn of the twentieth century, the United States began to colonize other lands, such as Hawaii, the Philippines and Cuba. Since then, it has occupied and intervened with military force in all regions of the globe[ii], such as Latin America, Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. This is not to mention the democratically-elected leaders America overthrew in places like Chile and Iran. The United States currently occupies two countries – Iraq and Afghanistan – and has a network of over 700 military bases globally[iii]. As such, the United States is a de facto empire[iv].
