Man Linked to Sept. 11 Hijackers Is Released

Published: December 10, 2008

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (Reuters) — Malaysia has released five men held on suspicion of terrorism, including one who has been linked to the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States, the country’s home minister said Wednesday.

Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar, who is in charge of security, said that a man linked to the Jemaah Islamiyah militant network had been freed Thursday, along with two from a Thai separatist group and two Malaysians suspected of working for foreign intelligence groups.

Mr. Syed told reporters at Parliament that he believed that Yazid Sufaat, a Malaysian who the police suspected had provided lodging for two of the Sept. 11 hijackers, was among them.

In 2002, a Malaysian official said that he doubted that Mr. Yazid knew of Al Qaeda’s plans for Sept. 11.

Mr. Yazid also was suspected by the American authorities of having helped the convicted Sept. 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui with money and references.

EU awards Israel for starving Gazans, expanding colonies

By Khalid Amayreh in occupied East Jerusalem

11 December, 2008

On Monday, 8 December, European Union (EU) foreign ministers decided to boost relations with the apartheid state of Israel.

The decision opens the way towards a first-ever EU-Israel summit in the coming months, perhaps during the Czech Republic’s presidency of the bloc, in the first half of 2009.

The EU will also consider inviting Israel to participate in the civilian missions linked to its security and defense policy.

Czech officials have pointed out that upgrading EU-Israeli relations will be one the Czech Republic’s main priorities when it takes over the EU presidency from France in January.

Afghan Massacre – The Convoy of Death

NEW YORK–Did American soldiers commit war crimes during the invasion of Afghanistan?

According to eyewitnesses, U.S. Special Forces supervised–some say orchestrated–the systematic murder of more than 3,000 captured Taliban soldiers in November 2001. That charge is the centerpiece of a documentary film, “Afghan Massacre: The Convoy of Death,” expected to be released in the United States within the next few weeks.

“There has been a cover-up by the Pentagon,” says Scottish director Jamie Doran, a former producer for the BBC. “They’re hiding behind a wall of secrecy, hoping this story will go away–but it won’t.”

Indeed, “Massacre” has already been shown on German television and to several European parliaments. The United Nations has promised an investigation. But thanks to a virtual media blackout, few Americans are aware that, on the eve of another war, their nation’s reputation as a bastion of human rights is rapidly dissipating. American Involvement in Genocide?

More NATO Supplies Destroyed as Peshawar Attacks Continue

Pakistan Deploys Frontier Corps to Protect Supply Terminal
Posted December 12, 2008

Militants in the Pakistani city of Peshawar continued tonight what has been already a week-long string of attacks on supply depots holding NATO trucks and containers throwing the reliability of NATO’s chief source of supplies to the military effort in Afghanistan into serious doubt.

In the latest attack, militants launched a rocket at Bilal Terminal in Peshawar at 3 AM local time Saturday morning, lobbing petrol bombs and destroying ten NATO supply trucks and 15 containers. The series of attacks, which began last weekend, has destroyed hundreds of supply trucks scheduled to cross the Khyber Pass into Afghanistan.

After another attack last night, which destroyed 25 trucks, Pakistan announced that they would deploy their paramilitary organization, the Frontier Corps (FC) to guard the terminals from attack. It was not immediately apparent whether or not FC forces were present at Bilal Terminal during the latest attack.

The Khyber Pass route is the source of roughly three-quarters of the supplies for international fores in Afghanistan. Though the US has insisted the Peshawar attacks are militarily insignificant, they have been seen increasingly relying on airdrops to circumvent dangerous overland routes. NATO is also reportedly close to a deal for a rail route through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, raising the possibility that they may soon begin to rely on the less convenient, but considerably safer Northern Corridor route.
