Ottoman Archives Show Land Deed Forged
Turkey’s Fallout with Israel Deals Blow to Settlers

JONATHAN COOK

March 25, 2009

A legal battle being waged by Palestinian families to stop the takeover of their neighbourhood in East Jerusalem by Jewish settlers has received a major fillip from the recent souring of relations between Israel and Turkey.

After the Israeli army’s assault on the Gaza Strip in January, lawyers for the families were given access to Ottoman land registry archives in Ankara for the first time, providing what they say is proof that title deeds produced by the settlers are forged.

On Monday, Palestinian lawyers presented the Ottoman documents to an Israeli court, which is expected to assess their validity over the next few weeks. The lawyers hope that proceedings to evict about 500 residents from Sheikh Jarrah will be halted.

Incriminating Evidence of Israeli War Crimes in Gaza

Stephen Lendman

March 25, 2009

Throughout its history, Israel has willfully and repeatedly committed crimes of war and against humanity, always with impunity. Yet under customary legal standards and norms (including Geneva, Hague, the UN Charter, S.C. and G.A. resolutions), it’s lawless, a serial abuser, a threat to the region and humanity, mostly as an oppressive occupier. Attacking Gaza is the latest episode in its six-decade reign of terror satisfying the definition of genocide against defenseless Palestinian civilians. This article covers more evidence from some disturbing but unsurprising newly published information.

On March 19, in the first of a series of articles, Haaretz headlined: “IDF killed civilians in Gaza under loose rules of engagement.” Military correspondent Amos Harel revealed Israeli soldier and pilot (“dirty secret”) testimonies of being ordered to kill unarmed civilians and destroy their property – accounts at variance with official claims that only military targets were attacked and that “Israeli troops observed a high level of moral behavior during the operation.” Defense Minister Ehud Barak calls the IDF “the most moral army in the world.”

March 24, 2009What we knew of Israel’s war crimes during Israel’s war on Gaza, what the medics, the victims, the doctors, the witnesses have testified is now gaining growing recognition. The calls for international inquiry are growing, as are the reasons.

“We found Mohammed lying there, cut in half. Ahmed was in three pieces; Wahid was totally burnt – his eyes were gone. Wahid’s father was dead. Nour had been decapitated. We couldn’t see her head anywhere. All six members of the family had been blown to pieces, coating each wall of the narrow enclosure with blood and body matter.” [from Cut To Pieces: the Palestinian family drinking tea in their courtyard ]

Yemen seizes ‘Israel-linked’ terrorist cell

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has said the security forces have arrested a group of alleged Islamist militants linked to Israeli intelligence.

Mr Saleh did not say what evidence had been found to show the group’s links with Israel, a regional enemy of Yemen.

The arrests were connected with an attack on the US embassy in Sanaa last month which killed at least 18 people, official sources were quoted saying.

Israel’s foreign ministry has rejected the accusation as “totally ridiculous”.

“A terrorist cell was arrested and will be referred to the judicial authorities for its links with the Israeli intelligence services,” Mr Saleh told a gathering at al-Mukalla University in Hadramawt province.

“Details of the trial will be announced later. You will hear about what goes on in the proceedings,” he added.

Is the U.S.A. the World’s Greatest Nation Now?

03/24/2009 12:35:32 PM EST

The intense anger and rage lingers that George W. Bush generated with the false claim that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction threatening the U.S.A.  Adding to his State of the Union fright scenario was Bush’s false claim that Saddam Hussein was well on the road to developing nuclear power.  This false proclamation hastily launched the Iraq War.If the claim of ex-fed chief Alan Greenspan in his book “Age of Turbulence” that “The Iraq war was largely about Oil” is accurate, we must objectively analyze the cost of Iraq oil acquisition.

Was Iraq oil acquisition worth the tragic loss of 4,242, U.S. service personnel whose flag-draped coffins coming back to the U.S.A. were barred by the Pentagon from being shown on TV?

Was it worth the wounding and suffering of over 55,000 U.S. service personnel?

FBI Informant: Craig Monteilh says he infiltrated southern California mosques on behalf of the FBI. But he insists that he did not promote terrorist activities, as some Muslim American groups charge.

FBI and American Muslims at odds

An informant at a California mosque has hampered efforts to find home-grown terrorists.

Law enforcement efforts to root out home-grown terrorists are jeopardized by deteriorating relations between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Muslim and Arab-American communities.

The situation began last fall when the FBI quietly withdrew formal relations with all local chapters of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), one of the largest Muslim American civil rights organizations. The FBI cited “a number of distinct narrow issues” that it has refused to make public.

The situation worsened in February, when it became public that the FBI had planted an informant at a California mosque who, a coalition of more than a dozen Muslim American groups charges, actively tried to recruit terrorists.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — After agreeing to bury their differences and unite forces, Taliban leaders based in Pakistan have closed ranks with their Afghan comrades to ready a new offensive in Afghanistan as the United States prepares to send 17,000 more troops there this year.

In interviews, several Taliban fighters based in the border region said preparations for the anticipated influx of American troops were already being made. A number of new, younger commanders have been preparing to step up a campaign of roadside bombings and suicide attacks to greet the Americans, the fighters said.

NATO-led troops shot dead two Afghan farmers who were watering their land in east Afghanistan, a police chief said.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has said civilian casualties are the biggest cause of tension between him and his Western backers, who have about 70,000 troops in Afghanistan fighting a Taliban-led insurgency.

The two Afghans were killed late on Tuesday just outside Khost city, east of the capital Kabul, provincial police chief Abdul Qayum Baqizoi said, adding they were innocent civilian farmers tending their land.

Pakistan officials: Suspected U.S. missile strike killed 8

Updated 1d 9h ago

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan (AP) — A suspected U.S. missile attack killed eight militants including several foreigners on Wednesday in the stronghold of Pakistan’s top Taliban commander, officials said.

The strike damaged two vehicles near Makeen, a town in the South Waziristan region that borders Afghanistan, two Pakistani intelligence officials told The Associated Press.

Citing informants and intercepted militant communications, they said four of the dead were foreigners who had been riding in a pickup near a small bridge. Four local militants also died, while three more were injured, they said.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly to the media. Reporters cannot verify reports from the area because authorities and militants limit access.

God Damn the International Criminal Court

God Damn the International Criminal Court

Ali Baghdadi

March 25, 2009

I would like to borrow a famous phrase from a great Afro-American leader, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, whom I admire and respect greatly for his courage, straightforwardness, and truthfulness: “God damn.” President Barack Hussein Obama and the queen of talk shows Oprah Winfrey attended his church, Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago for over 20 years. The reverend married Barack and Michelle. He also baptized Malia and Sasha, the couple’s daughters. The man has been a roaring voice for the oppressed and downtrodden for his entire adult life.

Yes! I say “God damn,” for the first time and in writing. What could be more true and expressive than these two words, when one witnesses a miscarriage of justice in its ugliest form and magnitude, and he or she has no means to stop it?

God damn the “International Criminal Court” (ICC) that has issued an arrest warrant for President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir for one of the most ridiculous and outright lies ever manufactured, “committing war crimes in Darfur,” Sudan’s western region, the size of France.

Israel Killed 39 in Attack on Sudan Convoy
January Strike Destroyed Several Trucks, Injured Civilians

Jason Ditz

March 25, 2009

Answering accusations from a Sudanese minister that the US Air Force had killed 39 people in a January attack in that nation, US officials say that in fact it was the Israeli military that launched the attack on a convoy of trucks northwest of Port Sudan city.

Reportedly, the Israeli planes used a US base in Djibouti to stage the attacks, as part of the agreement between Israel and the outgoing Bush Administration made in mid January. Israeli officials would neither confirm nor deny the attacks.

The trucks attacked were said to be smuggling small arms to Hamas, and while an exact date for the attack was not given it appears to have been shortly (perhaps just days) after the Israeli military halted its ground invasion of the Gaza Strip. Everyone in the trucks, said to include Ethiopians and Eritreans, was reported killed, and an unknown number of civilians were also said to be wounded in the attack.

Khartoum: US bombed targets in Sudan

Wed, 25 Mar 2009 14:31:11 GMT

Sudan has confirmed reports that the US Air Force conducted a strike against suspected arm smugglers killing scores of people on its soil.

American planes, last January, attacked and bombed an arms convoy which was heading towards Sudan-Egypt borders, the Egyptian Al-Shurooq newspaper said Tuesday.

The report also noted that the convoy, consisting of 17 trucks, carried 39 passengers — none of which survived the attack.

The Sudanese state minister for highways Mabrouk Mubarak Saleem told reporters at a press conference in the Eastern city of Kassala near Eritrea that a “major power bombed small trucks carrying arms, burring all of them. It killed Sudanese, Eritrean and Ethiopians [passengers] and injured others.”
