Dictatorship: Police identify 200 children as potential terrorists

Drastic new tactics to prevent school pupils as young as 13 falling into extremism

Exclusive by Mark Hughes Crime correspondent

Saturday, 28 March 2009

Two hundred schoolchildren in Britain, some as young as 13, have been identified as potential terrorists by a police scheme that aims to spot youngsters who are “vulnerable” to Islamic radicalisation.

The number was revealed to The Independent by Sir Norman Bettison, the chief constable of West Yorkshire Police and Britain’s most senior officer in charge of terror prevention.

He said the “Channel project” had intervened in the cases of at least 200 children who were thought to be at risk of extremism, since it began 18 months ago. The number has leapt from 10 children identified by June 2008.

March 29, 2009

21% of Israeli exporters have been directly affected by the boycott movement since the beginning of 2009. So reports today (29 March) The Marker, a Hebrew-language economic newspaper.

This number is based on a poll of 90 Israeli exporters in fields such as high tech, metals, construction materials, chemistry, textile and foods. The poll was conducted in January-February 2009 by the Israeli Union of Industrialists.

The AIC is working to receive a copy of this poll, and will translated and distribute relevant sections of it in service of the global boycott movement.

Spanish judge to hear torture case against six Bush officials
Legal moves may force Obama’s government into starting a new inquiry into abuses at Guantánamo Bay and Abu Ghraib

Julian Borger and Dale Fuchs in Madrid, Guardian

Sunday 29 March 2009

Criminal proceedings have begun in Spain against six senior officials in the Bush administration for the use of torture against detainees in Guantánamo Bay. Baltasar Garzón, the counter-terrorism judge whose prosecution of General Augusto Pinochet led to his arrest in Britain in 1998, has referred the case to the chief prosecutor before deciding whether to proceed.

The case is bound to threaten Spain’s relations with the new administration in Washington, but Gonzalo Boyé, one of the four lawyers who wrote the lawsuit, said the prosecutor would have little choice under Spanish law but to approve the prosecution.

“The only route of escape the prosecutor might have is to ask whether there is ongoing process in the US against these people,” Boyé told the Observer. “This case will go ahead. It will be against the law not to go ahead.”

The officials named in the case include the most senior legal minds in the Bush administration. They are: Alberto Gonzales, a former White House counsel and attorney general; David Addington, former vice-president Dick Cheney’s chief of staff; Douglas Feith, who was under-secretary of defence; William Haynes, formerly the Pentagon’s general counsel; and John Yoo and Jay Bybee, who were both senior justice department legal advisers.

Shame on us!

What will happen next? Will Palestinian kids be duped to play music to Israeli pilots who exterminated Gaza children with White Phosphorus?

It is really hard to write on this subject without getting angry. We all know the extent to which Israel can be evil and satanic. After all, we Palestinians have been on the receiving end of Israeli savagery for decades.

In fact, being thoroughly tormented and killed by the children, grand-children and great grandchildren of the holocaust has always been and continues to be “the” Palestinians’ way of life.

However, for some Palestinians to allow themselves to be duped to sing and play music to their oppressors and child-killers is simply beyond the pale of human dignity.

It is at least as insulting and humiliating as some Jews were forced or duped to play music to SS, Gestapo and Wehrmacht soldiers during the Second World War. In both cases, the act was meant to humiliate the victims and rob them of the last visages of human dignity.

Israeli white phosphorus lights up Gaza sky
March 29, 2009In the past couple of weeks, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has been vocal about war crimes committed by Israel in its invasion and destruction of Gaza. Currently, the group is featuring Israel’s use of white phosphorus, a chemical agent that burns people alive, and is illegal under international laws of combat to use against civilians. According to the Huffington Post of March 26, 2009:

Emergency appeal to UNESCO to exclude Israel from its membership
and a call for joining the cultural and academic boycott of Israel

NOT A WAR… BUT A GENOCIDE

UNESCO, a specialized agency of the United Nations, has as its stated goal to “contribute to peace and security by promoting collaboration among nations through education, science, and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, for the rule of law and for the human rights and the fundamental freedoms” proclaimed in the UN Charter. UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is politically accountable to the international community. When schools under the UN flag are targeted, when children are targeted, when a whole population is systematically deprived of food and water, sanitation and electricity, UNRWA, UNICEF and UNESCO, are not to be content with protest; they should live up to their responsibility by taking action. Below are appeals to UNESCO to fulfill its role in the maintenance of justice through cultural preservation and respect by a) revoking Israel’s membership in UNESCO, and b) joining the cultural and academic boycott of Israel[1] <outbind://320/#_edn1> .

“Israeli war crimes were daily and too numerous to count”

Palestine Monitor

vittime5.jpg

March 30, 2009

In the past few days various internationally recognized associations have heavily condemned the Israeli exactions in Gaza, shedding light on the recurrent crimes. Alleged accusations are becoming more certain now and are being backed up with evidence and testimonies from both sides, including the Israeli soldiers themselves. Even war has rules and they were repeatedly breached. What is justice waiting for?

Two months after the end of the deadly Israeli assault on the Gaza strip tongues are loosened and several human rights organizations, along with journalists and UN officials, are now releasing reports gathering evidences on war crimes carried out by Israel.

Human Right Watch, Amnesty International, Physicians for Human Rights and many more are now seeking for inquiry with a common aim: shedding documented light on Israel’s human rights violations and war crimes during the Cast Lead operation. Their message is united and clear: an international independent investigation is needed. Time has finally come for the State to give accountability for the 23 days of continuous, barbaric actions in the Strip.

Palestinians remember Land Day

Jonathan Cook

30 March 2009

Hatim Kanaaneh, a former physician who witnessed the Land Day protests, stands by a monument in Sakhnin’s cemetery to six Palestinians shot dead by the Israeli army during the confrontations of 30 March 1976 (Jonathan Cook)

Palestinians across the Middle East were due to commemorate Land Day today, marking the anniversary of clashes in 1976 in which six unarmed Palestinians were shot dead by the Israeli army as it tried to break up a general strike.

Although Land Day is one of the most important anniversaries in the Palestinian calendar, sometimes referred to as the Palestinians’ national day, the historical event it marks is little spoken of and rarely studied.

Defending Zionism: Defending the Indefensible

Pearl (second from right): anti-Zionism ‘hate more dangerous than anti-Semitism.’
By Stephen Lendman – Chicago

This article responds to a March 15 Los Angeles Times Judea Pearl one headlined: “Is anti-Zionism hate?” Pearl teaches computer science at UCLA, is the father of slain journalist Daniel Pearl, and president of the Daniel Pearl Foundation. It was “formed….to continue Danny’s mission and to address the root causes of this tragedy in the spirit” of the man it represents, including “uncompromised objectivity and integrity….and respect for people of all cultures….”

Pearl calls anti-Zionism “hate more dangerous than anti-Semitism, threatening lives and peace in the Middle East.” Zionism is precisely the opposite as numerous Jewish writers, including this one, have addressed.

A legal battle being waged by Palestinian families to stop the takeover of their neighbourhood in East Jerusalem by Jewish settlers has received a major fillip from the recent souring of relations between Israel and Turkey.

After the Israeli army’s assault on the Gaza Strip in January, lawyers for the families were given access to Ottoman land registry archives in Ankara for the first time, providing what they say is proof that title deeds produced by the settlers are forged.

The Most Merciful the Most Compassionate

The comprehensive dialogue about the latest situations in the country with the official of the Political Committee of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Sheikh “Mu’tasem Aghakhan”, may Allah protect him, keep him safe and guide his steps.

Tuesday 24th February 2009 10:54

Q1: When was the Political Committee established within the framework of the Islamic Emirate? What were the reasons behind that? In addition, according to its responsibilities, what are the duties to be performed?

Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. All praises and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the ‘Alamin. Peace and prayers be on His best creation, Muhammad, and on all his family and companions.

Then, The Political Committee was established five years ago by the supreme command of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan when the attacks of the Mujahideen against the invaders increased tangibly. This was among the series of the administrative framework, which the supreme command set for the sake of organizing and developing its affairs; and among them was the Political Committee. When the Mujahideen accomplished their major goals against the extorter American forces, other bodies became ready to establish bonds with the Mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. Thus, the supreme command saw the necessity to form the Political Committee to pursue such affairs. Consequently, the Commander of the Faithful gave an order to form such a committee to be able to organize matters in a reasonable way and a well-organized planning.

Afghanistan: US, NATO Wage World’s Largest and Longest War

Rick Rozoff, Stop NATO

March 28, 2009

On October 7 it will enter its ninth calendar year and with the projected deployment of at least 30,000 more American and thousands of more fellow NATO nations’ troops this year it promises to go on indefinitely.

It is the second longest war, both on the air and ground fronts, in United States’ history, with only its protracted involvement in Indochina so far exceeding it in length.

The Afghan war is also the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s first armed conflict outside of Europe and its first ground war in the sixty years of its existence. It has been waged with the participation of armed units from all 26 NATO member states and twelve other European and Caucasus nations linked to NATO through the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council, the Partnership for Peace and the Adriatic Charter with the first-ever invocation of the Alliance’s Article 5 mutual military assistance provision.
